The sounds of someone knocking echoes across the cottage as Fluttershy finishes dusting the living room. "Oh my...she's here."
The yellow pegasus quickly flies into the kitchen to see her pet bunny Angel looking over a cookbook. "You know what to do right?" she asks.
Angel just rolls his eyes, his way of saying "yes",
"Good." she stated as she leaves Angel to do his job.
Fluttershy quickly flew to the front door and opened it to reveal a friend she hasn't seen in a year; Rainbow Dash.
"Shy! It's been a while!" exclaimed Dash as she happily enveloped Fluttershy into a hug. The yellow mare just blushes and gives an "EEP!" after the unexpected display of affection.
"D-Dash...so glad of you to make it." stated Fluttershy as Dash finally let her best go.
"I see things haven't changed much this past year." said Dash as she lets herself in and looks around the cottage, still the same as when she last saw it.
It has been a year since they last talked to each other in person...when they broke-up with each other. Dash's time with the Wonderbolts straining their relationship.
"I-I made us dinner..." stammered Fluttershy as she leads her friend into the dinning room.
"Awesome! All this training has made me hungry!" excitedly exclaimed the cyan pegasus.
They both sit down across from each other at a small dinning room table, they plates all set, with only a single candelabra providing the light.
"Angel should be out with the meal in a few minutes." explained the yellow pegasus to her friend and former lover.
"What are we having?" asked Dash.
"Pasta."
"Sounds delicious!" Dash exclaimed. She then decided to update herself on what happened in Ponyville since she left. "So...how have you been holding up?"
"I-I'm fine...the same old same old basically..." Fluttershy began to get a little nervous. "...just me, my animals and my friends...and nothing else. And you?"
"Doing pretty good...just got back from a world tour with the Wonderbolts." explained an excited Rainbow Dash.
"I heard..."
"All the places I have been...I'd never once dreamed I would end up visiting one day!" Dash mused. "Neighpon was the coolest!"
Angel then hopped in carrying a try with two cloche covered plates on it. He places the plates one at a time and then removes the cloche's to reveal the two mare's meals. "Thank you Angel." complimented Fluttershy. Angel said nothing as he just hopped back to the kitchen leaving the two mares alone.
"Let's dig in!" exclaimed Dash before she started to eat.
Fluttershy couldn't help but stare and smile...Dash never had great table manners.
Dash quickly started to notice her friending staring at her. "What is it?" Dash asked.
The yellow pegasus just blushes. "N-nothing...just thinking about my friends." she lied.
"Speaking of which...how are they doing?"
"Well...Twilight is still in Caterlot learning how to be a princess...I heard that she's dating a member of the Royal Guards." explained Fluttershy. "Applejack is still with her family helping out at the farm, Rarity's boutique is doing well and Pinkie is still baking and throwing parties as usual."
"How about Scootaloo? How's my biggest fan holding up?"
"She's still here...still your biggest fan." said Fluttershy with a smile on her face. She always found Dash's bond with Scootaloo cute.
"So Twilight is dating?" asked a surprised Dash. "Since when?"
"I first heard about it a month ago...was just as surprised as you are." answered Fluttershy.
"So the egghead found a coltfriend...good for her, any of our other friends have with special someponies?"
"Applejack can't find the time, Rarity likes to keep her love life a secret...even to me...and Pinkie, well...she's Pinkie." she explained. "And you?"
"Uh...well...I couldn't exactly find the time to find somepony special." sheepishly answered the rainbow-maned mare.
Fluttershy gave a small gasp. "Why not?"
"Well...when you're travelling the world with a famous flying group...it's kind of hard to find personal time, plus there's a strict no fraternization policy and the fact that all you have to rely on for romantic companionship are groupies." Dash answered. "Plus the fact that all the stallions or mares I try to start relationships with just want to get to me because I'm Rainbow Dash; Wonderbolt and Element of Loyalty." Dash was starting to get sad.
"I-I'm sorry to hear that...must've been lonely." stated a concerned Fluttershy...she then puts her hoof on Dash's. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine...even better now that I'm in Ponyville again...although I leave for practice and training next week." Dash then lets Fluttershy's hoof go. "What about you? Any pony catching your eye?"
The yellow mare was caught off guard by the question. "Um...not really...no." she nervously answered.
"Why not?!" exclaimed a shocked Dash.
"Well...I just get so nervous and all the mares and stallions just don't really compare to you Dash." Fluttershy explained. "You're kind of a hard act to follow."
Dash just nervously grins at the compliment. "Well...I thought we promised each other when we broke-up that we would find somepony else."
"Well...there was one that came close." stated Fluttershy.
"Ooh...who was that?" asked the cyan pegasus intreagued.
"Uh...Big Mac..." mumbled Fluttershy. But since the room was quiet...Dash heard her quite clearly.
"Big Mac?! The one stallion all the mares are crazy about? Him?"
"Yes."
"AWESOME!" Dash exclaimed. "How was it like being with Ponyville's most eligible bachelor?"
"Formerly eligible." added Fluttershy. "He's dating someone now."
"Who?"
"He wouldn't say...but I do see him around with Caramel a lot lately."
"Well...who cares who he's dating...how did your time with him went?" Dash asked.
"Romantic...it was great...really knows how to treat a mare." mused Fluttershy. "We really enjoyed being together."
"Did you kiss?" Dash then makes a kissy face.
"Yes..." blushed Fluttershy. "...but we never got any further than making-out...Mac always stopped me before we got any further."
"Why?"
"He didn't really explain...something about waiting until marriage I think." said Fluttershy in deep thought.
"Anyone else?" Dash continued to ask.
"Caramel...but he always seemed distracted around me...like he's thinking about something or someone else...and then there was Thunderlane, but there was no spark between us...I even ended up on a date with Spike."
"Spike? Really?" laughed the cyan pegasus.
"It was a one-time thing...he wanted to know how it's like to be on a date."
"So...is he with anyone?" Dash asked.
"All I know is that he's dating a mare and they're happy. He hasn't told me who though...something about keeping the relationship a secret or something." said an unsure Fluttershy.
Dash then decided to switch the subject and ask the question that has been bothering her since they broke up. "Why did we broke-up?" she bluntly asked.
Fluttershy, caught off-guard by the question, stops eating to look at her former lover. "I though we went through this...we couldn't find the time and you didn't want us to be in a long distance relationship." she explained.
"Well...now I'm regretting ever breaking-up with you in the first place...what we had was special you know?"
"I-I know..." agreed Fluttershy.
"Do you remember the day we became a couple?"
Fluttershy nods.
"The day we said 'I love you' for the first time?"
Fluttershy nods again.
"The night that we made love for the time?"
Instead of nodding...Fluttershy blushes instead.
"It wasn't until I finally felt what is was like to feel alone when I realized what a mistake I made in breaking-up with you." Dash then brings her hoof to meet Fluttershy's.
"Oh...I'm touched you think this way...but you we're right...I don't think our relationship could survive with the both of us separated by a great distance." answered the yellow mare.
"Maybe your right...but we won't know unless we try."
They both just stare at each other, looking into each others eyes. This is how their first night together as lovers first started.
"I love you Shy...and I missed you so much." stated Dash. Dash is normally not this emotional or romantic in public, only when alone with someone she loves, in this case; Fluttershy.
"I missed you too...but I'm not sure if I'm ready to say 'I love you' just yet." stated Fluttershy with doubt.
"Just promise me that we will always find the time to meet and talk...like what we're doing now."
"Why of course..." stated Fluttershy. "Anything for you."
Dash then suddenly flew from her seat and enveloped Fluttershy into a romantic hug.
The two of them just stare at each other, still in a tight embrace with each other, floating over the table, blushing.
They then bring in their muzzles together into a passionate kiss...their first with each other since their brake-up, and it brought back all the intimate memories they shared.
"Oh my..." mumbled Fluttershy as the two of them break their kiss, the two of them slowly descend back to the floor. "...I kind of forgot what kissing you felt like." stated the yellow mare.
"Me too..." nervously answered Dash, blushing.
"Listen Dash...I really like you and I still deep down have feelings for you...but I think it's best that we don't restart our relationship....I don't want us to go through another break-up." explained a reluctant Fluttershy.
"I understand...whatever makes you happy." stated Dash with full agreement. Dash then turned to see the wall clock chime 9pm. She just gives a frustrated sigh. "Well...I have to get going...I have a long day tomorrow, you know with Pinkie's homecoming party and all."
"Why can't you spend the night here...with me?" asked the yellow mare.
"I thought we agreed that we shouldn't restart our relationship." responded the cyan mare, confused.
"I know...but that doesn't mean we couldn't share some benefits with each other." stated Fluttershy in a sultry tone.
Dash immediately realized what her best friend was talking about. "How haven't rutted anyone since we broke-up right?" she slyly pointed out.
Fluttershy just blushes.
That's all it took to finally convince Dash. "Oh well..." shrugged Dash. "...anything to help out a friend." The rainbow-maned pegasus quickly trotted up to her friend and kisses her.
Fluttershy closes her eyes and happily accepts Dash's kiss. Pretty soon, both of their tongues began to explore each other's mouths, just like they did the last they did this.
After about a minute both pegasi break their kiss to catch their breath. "Wow!" exclaimed a surprised Flutteshy. "I forgot how great of a kisser you are."
"Really?" blushed Dash from the compliment.
"Really."
"Better than Big Mac?"
"Even better."
They both briefly smile at each other before they sprinted off to Fluttershy's bed room to have more fun with each other.
Not a bad way to end dinner; with a show.
