The Path of Absolution - Punishment

xxx - Chione's Fall

Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Applejack were in the chamber where the Elements of Harmony were kept. There was a windigo in the center of the chamber.

“Who are you?!” Rainbow Dash said.

“That is not important right now,” the windigo said. “The question is who are you?

Twilight Sparkle looked behind the windigo. She could see the chamber was frozen over behind him. She sensed a presence the Elements.

The windigo looked at Applejack. “Oh so, you’re Applejack then? Chosen by honesty, but you let yourself become swallowed by lies, and almost deserted your friends because of them. And you found the truth too late and your sister suffers.”

Applejack fumed. She recalled the time the windigos attacked Ponyville. “You and your queen kidnapped my sister!”

“Perhaps,” the windigo said. “But how would you know?”

“Let them go,” Applejack said.

Rarity remembered the day Ponyville was frozen as well. She knew that her sister was captured as well. She said, “Release our sisters, ruffian, or so help me I’ll--”

“You’ll what, Rarity?” the windigo said. “Selfishly hang me out to be ostracized like you did her and her friends? Desert me so you can make a wedding dress and climb the social ladder? So much for generosity.”

“I do not prioritize myself over my friends!” Rarity said.

“Be careful, everypony,” Twilight said. “He’s trying to rile us up.”

The windigo looked at Rainbow Dash. “Ah, Rainbow Dash. Chosen by loyalty to betray your friends not once, but twice.

“What?!” Rainbow Dash said. “Why I oughta...”

Rainbow tried to charge the windigo, only to be held back by Applejack.

“Hold on, sugarcube,” Applejack said.

Rainbow Dash shouted to the windigo, “You foal-napped Scootaloo. I have half a mind to--”

“Drench me in rainwater?” the windigo said. “Oh yes, surely that’ll work well. After all, it worked on Scootaloo.”

Rainbow Dash stopped trying to charge the windigo.

The windigo turned to Fluttershy. The timid pegasus shivered in fear.

“Fluttershy, the kindest, sweetest pony you’ll ever meet,” the windigo said with disdain. “And yet the cruelest one you ever met. So self-absorbed that you didn’t realize when your friend was telling the truth, or when three certain fillies wanted your help. But, then again, that cruelty is appropriate for traitors.”

Fluttershy cried a bit, and Rarity tried to comfort her.

The windigo turned to Pinkie Pie. “And you! Pinkie Pie, who wants to spread laughter to the world. But instead you helped spread sorrow and misery. You’re just as much the problem as you are the solution, everypony should be thankful that’s there’s only one of you.”

Pinkie Pie glared at the windigo. “That’s not true!

“Enough!” Twilight Sparkle shouted. She trotted forward. “My friends are not what you say they are. You have no right to hurt their feelings or kidnap the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Let them go, leave Canterlot and never return or I will--”

“You’ll what?” the windigo said. “What your brother did to keep us out, you did to keep them out. You are the worst of them all, Twilight Sparkle. But maybe that’s why the Element of Magic chose you.”

The mares glared at the windigo.

Meanwhile, Chrysalis, Celestia, and Cadence continued their fight. Celestia took her sword and slashed Chrysalis, while Cadence supported her by attacking with purple beams.

The three combatants noticed a chill in the air as the window on one side froze.

Chrysalis and Celestia noticed the sudden chill.

“What’s going on?” Celestia said.

“You didn’t notice?” Chrysalis said. “We were not the only invasion.” She hid her fear of Celestia and of the new contestant behind a layer of confidence.

A fog entered the hall, obscuring the sight of the three battlers and the observers. Diamond Dust emerged from the fog. She glared at Celestia.

“Princess,” Diamond Dust said. “I’m here for you.”

Celestia was unnerved by the appearance of her new opponent. Everyone saw a filly with wings and a horn of ice. Silver Spoon took a look at what was once her friend once more.

“So you’re the leader of the windigos?” Celestia said

“Leader?” Diamond Dust said. “I’m the queen.”

Celestia and Cadence was distracted by Diamond Dust. Chrysalis saw an opportunity to escape. She used her magic, and Shining Armor began to move.

Cadence saw Shining Armor and Chrysalis gallop away and gave chase.

When Cadence left, Diamond Dust used her horn and froze the doors shut. Celestia and the bystanders were trapped inside.

“Now it’s just you and me,” Diamond Dust said.

The two began their fight.

Back at the chamber where the Elements were, Twilight and her friends further confronted the lone windigo.

“Thy Bearers of Harmony,” the windigo said. “You art hypocrites of the highest order, traitors of the virtues you were chosen to embody. You art the reason we shall unseal the seven seals and freeze the land over once more.”

“Seven Seals?” Twilight said. “But Celestia sealed them one thousand years ago. After she--”

“--and her kingdom sealed most of us into Tartarus?” the windigo asked. “I ask of thee, did you or did you not forsake three foals to be ostracized?”

“Why should we tell you?!” Rainbow dash said.

“And why are you speaking like somepony from a thousand years ago?” Pinkie said.

Applejack remembered what happened three days before the Crusaders were chased out of Ponyville. She knew that she never tried to help her sister until it was far too late. She stepped forward and confessed, “Yes, we helped kick out three fillies, or rather we just stood aside while they were being shunned.” She looked at the windigo. “But know that whatever it takes, I will find them and we will set things straight!”

“Well, you’re in luck,” the windigo said. “Why don’t you start now?”

The doors behind the windigo glowed a viridian glow as they began to open. Twilight and her friends were shocked by what they saw.

In the doorway were Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo. They wore two of the Elements each.
