//------------------------------// // It's a Date! // Story: A Beautiful Melody // by RainbowShy1241 //------------------------------// I woke up at my usual time of 12:30. Started my usual routine: get up, put glasses on, leave room, walk to the kitchen. Yet, I couldn't help but think that I was forgeting something. Bonbon and Lyra had already gone to work, didn't have anything planned for today... Octavia! I completly forgot about Octavia! I quickly ran out of the house and started going through the route she told me. Go straight to town hall then turn... Right? Yeah right, then keep going strait until I see a big red house on the right hand side... I got to the town hall, turned right, and continued going down for a bit, but there was no red house... C'mon Vinyl what did she say... I decided to try going back to town hall but this time going left. (Well technically straight since I was going right before.) And not three blocks away was a big red house on the right hand side... How could I have been so stupid! I said to myself. I walked up to the front door and knocked. The grey mare openned the door and just glarred at me. Not any sooner she spoke. "You're late..." "I'm so sorry Octy', I woke up late, then I got messed up on the way here and-" She cut me off quickly. "It's all right Vinyl, better late than never... And please don't call me 'Octy'." She said using air quotes. "We should get going now though." "Alright, follow me." I said as I moved out of the way for her to pass. "So, where are you taking me?" She said in an unsure voice. "It's... Well my friends said it was some sort of Italian restaurant... But I've never really been there." I said scratching the back of my head. "Sounds good." She said trying to reasure me. "Do you at least know what it's called?" "Not really... I just know where it is, but it's most likely gonna have some sort of Italian name." I said unsure. "Well, you don't say." She giggled and I could help but giggle also. Then we arrived at the restaurant, with the name 'Italian restaurant', how original... "Looks like they don't have an Italian name after all." I snicker. We walk in and wait near the door to be seated. The restaurant had a nice shade of orange on the walls lined with wood panels here and there with a couple of paintings. They had windows seperating the dining room from the kitchen so you could see the chefs at their work, I actually find that pretty cool.  The man finally gets to us and puts us near the window. The sun is shining beautifully on her as if the angels where praising her beauty as she looks through the menu. "You look good." I manage to say before quickly plunging my nose in the menu. "Thank you, Vinyl" She started blushing a bit. Despite the fact that this is an Italian restaurant, there aren't really many things Italian in this menu. It's mostly just vegetable soups and salads, where is all the pasta!? A man walks up to our table with a note pad and pencil levitating in front of him. "What are you two lovely ladies gonna have" He said in a tottaly non-italian accent... Buzz kill. Octavia looks at me unshure. "Take whatever you want babe." I say cheerfully. "I guess I'll just take a cesar salad." She says shyly "I'll take one of those too." I also ordered, seeing that it's the only thing I actual know what it is... Is it even Italian though?  The man quickly wrote our order down on his note pad and walked to the kitchen. Octavia started up the conversation. "So, Vinyl, what do you do for a living?" "Well, I don't really have a full time job, but I DJ at a couple of bars and clubs around Canterlot. Sometimes even come down here, played in Las Pegasus once too." I reply hoping she would be impressed. She turns her gaze at me. "Really? I play the chello in and orchestra. In fact, that's the reason I was in Canterlot when we met." Thank you orchestra. I say to myself. "I'd love to hear you play one day." The waiter comes back with our food and places it on the table. We thank him and then he nods and goes back to waiting more tables. "Isn't it hard to play an instrument whithout magic?" I say before levitating a fork full of salad. She politely finishes chewing, then swallows before responding. "It can have it's difficulties sometimes, but that's what really impresses people when they watch me play. The orchestra I mostly play in is specialy for earth ponies who play instruments. Mostly to show that you don't always need magic to be able to play." I also finish chewing my food before speaking, you know, to be classy... And also because last time I talked with my mouth full at Bonbons place she, politely, told me that she would make me swallow the fork if I didn't stop. "How long have you been playing?" I asked. "Oh, well, my parents put me into it at a young age so, I've been playing for as long as I can remember." She answers. "But enough about me, what about your DJing? Do you have any songs writen down yet?" "For now I only play live in bars and whatnot, I don't really have anything writen down or anything. Plus DJing is mostly better when it's improvised and not writen. But I have always wanted to record a CD, just never got towards doing it." "Why not?" She asks unsure. "Money, lack of equipment, all that stuff." I reply. We finish our food and the waiter brings the bill. As much as she insisted on paying a share, I payed for the meal and we left. "You know, I could have payed for my part." She says. "It's fine Octy'-" "Please don't call me that." She repeats. "Alright... 'Tavi," I smirk at her. She exhales loudly for me to hear. "I'm the one who took you out, It's the polite thing to do." "That was very kind of you Vinyl." She says turning her head toward me. "It's nothing, really." I try to convince her. We continue walking in an awkward silence for a while untill we get to her door. She opens it and walks inside. "Come in Vinyl." She says signaling for me to go in. And as I walk inside, I am hit by a gorgeous livingroom with various instruments placed perfectly along the wall with some paintings of some famous musicians with which I obviously would never know who they were. There was also a faint smell of flowers... But I can't quite put my hooves on which. She comes back into the living room and walks up to me and stares at my eyes, or sunglasses "Don't you ever take those glasses off?" She says. "Don't you ever take that bowtie off?" I reply with a smirk. "In case you didn't notice, I did." She says back with a smirk on her face also. As I look at her, I notice she actually did take it off. "Touché." Is all I can say. We pause for a bit with nothing to say. "I guess I should go." I say heading for the door. "You could stay here for a bit, I don't mind." She says. "Okay" I said a bit too enthousiastically. "What do you wanna do?"
