Discorded Humanity

by The Drifting Bard

The end

I walked along the beaten path from the hive, which had now been reduced to rubble and cinders.
I soon felt my footing falter. I favored my left leg more than my right. My right leg now began to simply drag behind me.

It finally began to rain.

it started slowly at first, A light pitter patter upon My head before finally it became a cascade of water.
I sighed as I dragged myself along. resigning myself to the bittersweet release of death, but I was determined to say goodbye one last time.

my movements were impeded by my injuries, but I refused to call out, I then gave a small smile as I finally reached the encampment once again. this time greeted by the four alicorns and his friends whom I had left behind all those years ago.

I raised an arm, slowly. Dropping my sword, being currently used as a makeshift crutch. finally, I pointed my finger at them all "Bang"

I collapsed to the ground and slowly faded from existence.

I had served my purpose.

As the old knight finally fell to the floor, there was a cry. each of the recently released had sped towards The slowly dying man in order to try and revive him. It continued to rain. almost as if the planet itself was shedding its tears for this long forgotten hero.

finally a voice croaked out, "shush...Don't cry, everypony" David croaked out. He raised a hand and placed it upon Pinkie's cheek. "Please... Don't, My heart's broken enough as it is," Twilight looked at me for a moment.
"D-dave? You....you still love me? after..." to say she was shocked was understatement of the year.
"How could I not," He paused to cough. a small mouthful of blood made its way to the floor. "You.... you destroyed me on that fateful day" He tried to take a deep breath, but only drew a short one. "but I forgive you,"

Celestia looked on, she had already come to terms with losing a friend, but it didn't make it any easier. She tried to heal his wounds, but by then it was already too late. "everything's going dark now, just.... have the band play something heavy" his breathing soon slowed. his eyes slowly dulled as he finally stopped breathing.

No more words were spoken. there wasn't anything to be said.
Twilight stood and looked at the body and silently cried. she begged Celestia and Luna to try and bring him back, even though she knew it couldn't be done. but then there was Pinkie.

she sat there, staring eerily into nothingness, her mane had lost some of it's bounce. but then she took a deep breath.
she walked over to twilight and simply held her close.

Pinkie Pie had this strange ability, not only to be incredibly random, but she had moments of profound lucidity.
she finally looked her friend in the eyes. "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die, Dave knew what he was doing, Twilight, we all knew," the pink mare let out a sad sigh. "if only things were different"

within a few days, the encampment had finally been moved, Ponies and all manner of species were finally returned to their point of origin. Twilight and Mjolner simply watched as things seemed to slow down. The young stallion then simply sighed as he turned to his mother. she was distraught but she remained strong. as she looked out over Canterlot, she could see all the lives the Knight had changed.

She smiled as she began her speech.

within a few minutes it was over. a public affair for the unveiling of a new statue. One she herself decided to move.
the statue of a man who's sole purpose was to protect Equestria.

it had been thirty years since then, Mjolner Thunder Strike Brought his children to the gardens to see the statue.
"Go on kids, Read the plaque"

His daughter looked at the plaque for a moment before turning to her father.
"there is no fate but what we make
here stands the will of equestria

Sir David of Earth, knight of the seven winds.
Unifier of equus"

she looked at her father and then simply smiled. "Grandpa?"
Mjolner nodded.
