//------------------------------// // Bird at the Window // Story: Change...ling? // by Coco-loco //------------------------------// "Hey Zap, you want to go for a race?" I yell into her room while pounding her door. "come on Zap!" "Give me a minute!" Comes a muffled voice from the other side of the door. The door swings open and she comes out yawning looking like she just woke up. "You okay Zap?" I look behind her into her room and see the her window was open, "do you want to clean up?" "If you’re wondering why the window is open it's because this bird was tapping on it and wouldn't go away till I opened the window and yelled at it," she waves her hoof to dismiss the subject, "I can't find my brush," she said tiredly, I just nod in understanding. "Come on," I pull her tail leading her to my room, "you can use mine." "Fine. But you really don't have to. Plus when did you become so generous, the last time I lost my brush you locked yours up and hid it," I just laugh awkwardly, but kept on walking. "Rarity's been helping me," she doesn't say anything. Her and Rarity got off on the wrong hoof when ponies started questioning Rarity about being the most generous. Zap was always super generous but didn't really put others first, "plus this is going to be fun!" When we get into my room the sweet vanilla scent fills our noses. The bright colors of the blues of the walls and the pink of the carpets make it welcoming and friendly, the plants lining the walls big and bushy in all their glory, and the open window covered by thin yellow curtains fills the room in a natural yellow light. Zap lies down on my bed and the clashing of her multicolored and the simple red of the sheet makes her stand out as she stares up at the sky painted ceiling. "I always did like your room. Even though its smaller than the others, it's bigger," she turns to me with a big smile, "You know what I mean?" I look around with a growing smile and nod. It always seemed out of a dream, the way it's glows in the soft light and how each thing is a bright and beautiful color. It's open and big, but small and cozy. "Come on sit up let's fix you up a little," I say while grabbing the brush and sitting down behind her. She sits up hesitantly but just stares at the window as the curtains flutter in the wind. I run the brush gently through her tail, working out each knot and straighten out each strand. Then I work on separating each color till there’s one stripe of blue, green, and purple. Next I work through her mane with the same process. When I'm completely done she looks just as beautiful as ever. "How'd you do?" She asks while walking over to the mirror. Just as she passes by the window a small bird comes crashing through it and knocking her over as it becomes a pony hitting her, I couldn’t believe my eyes. "That's not right!" is all I can say. It takes my mind awhile to process what just happened but when I do only one question comes to mind, "how'd you do that?" The now earth pony wobbles off my sister the helps her up with a guilty smile on her face. "Hehe. Sorry. I'm still not very good at aiming. Also sorry for the tapping on your window but you were really mean," my sister glares at the intruder, though I can tell she was just as confused as I was. "Who are you?" Nope. She doesn't want to know how she did it or what she actually did, just who she is. "Dark Blossom! Nice to meet you!" She offers her a hoof, ignoring me like I'm not even here, "what's your name?" She's purposely avoiding the subject, or me. "Oh I'm Zap Apple! So how'd you do that?" 'Dark Blossom' turns to face me now. "So who are you?" Definitely avoiding the subject, but at least she asks with a friendly enough smile. "I'm Malia. You can call me Tilley though," I tilt my head trying to find something about her. Nothing, just a normal earth pony who came flying through my bedroom window as a bird, "why are you avoiding the question?" "What question?" I just stare at her dumbfounded, was she serious? "The one we asked about how-" "I came in as a bird?" She interrupts. I just nod my head, "because I'm not a pony." She says it like its the most normal thing in the world. She even shrugged! "Not a pony?" Zap asks scratching her head. She’s just as confused as I am. "I'm a changeling," I almost wanted to face hoof. You just don't say that in the middle of a room in the Royal Princesses Castle!!! "A changeling?" Zap! Why are you acting like this is nothing??! "They can't be birds," ah, good point. "I'm not a normal changeling." We just met you, you shouldn't tell us these things as if it were nothing, "my mom had a curse put on her and she gave birth to me. I'm special too!" then she goes on and on about herself. She really interesting. Her mom is really busy so they never hang out but when they do hey go on crazy adventures together. "So you can turn into any creature?" Zap asked excitedly. "Practically," she nodded with a smile. "Other than other changelings and ponies?" "Yep." she said with a smile. Zap looks at me and I just know what she wants. I nod. "So you want to show me some?" Zap asks her. She nods with a growing smile as they run out. Whatever, I’ll just take a nap, I haven't been feeling well lately. Blossom comes over all the time now and her and Zap run off to do who knows what. Mum is pregnant and my condition has been getting worse. Mom says its just some drowsiness caused by the heat. I keep telling her that's not it but she doesn't believe me. Zap probably would and would want to help but she's to busy with Blossom to hang out with me anymore. Tomorrow I'll be going to Ponyville to visit Pinkie. Zap doesn't know I'll be leaving but I can't find her to tell her. Sunsets in a few hours and she left before it even rose. "Zap! Zap where are you?" I call out as I fly through the twists and turns of the maze. I'm starting to worry because there's these huge drag marks in the ground that fade to deep dragged hoof marks. "ZAP!!!!!!!!!" I yell at the top of my lungs just to have it echoed back to me. That's when I see it and its the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Out of the center of the maze comes a blue bolt, then a green bolt next to it, then a purple bolt. They form a triangle as they meet at their tips. Red starts swirling around the blue, yellow around the green, orange around the purple. The second they hit the point it's like when mum does a Sonic Rainboom just different. Each color is twisting and wrapping around the others in a ring that spreads across the sky. The ring stops growing as the colors settle. They go purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, then in the middle is a dancing circle of red. I head home after my daze goes away to wait for Zap. After a while a teary eyed Zap comes rushing into my room. She has a cutie mark, and tt looks exactly like the end of the crazy thing I saw outside. I asked her a bunch of questions about why she's crying, what happened, what that was. All she says is 'colors and she forgot, she forgot.'
