The Path of Absolution - Punishment

xii - Alexander's Conquest

Diamond Dust and her windigo army were slowly moving to Ponyville. The windigo queen was sure to avoid Canterlot. She remembered the battle with Over Cast. She remember enjoying it when she struck the final attack. She looked at her now icy pink hooves and wondered what happened to her.

Her adviser had emerged from her white tiara. “O Diamond Dust, heiress to the throne of Ithaqua. Why are you avoiding Canterot?”

“Why?” Diamond Dust said. “You said it yourself, I need to unseal those ‘servants’ before facing the princesses.”

“True, but the path we’re taking has barely any little ponies to feed upon. Bear in mind, as queen it is your job to end our famine, one way or another.”

Diamond Dust said, “Don’t worry. We’ll get to Ponyville soon and find my new servants.”

“I would hope so, your majesty,” The advisor went back into Diamond Dust’s crown. She wondered what her advisor meant by “one way or another.”

In Ponyville, Applejack was busy tending the orchards. She was kicking the apple trees.

Big Mac went to his sister, “Applejack, did you find her?”

Applejack missed the tree in shock. She also knew that he didn’t talk much, she knew that he must be worried. She didn’t want to tell her brother and grandmother what happened to her sister, but she knew that the truth would have to come out sometime.

“I’m sorry,” Applejack said. “But Apple Bloom did as you said, she went away.” She knew the other time that her brother spoke with words others than Eeyups and Nopes, both of them were furious at the Crusaders, and she was the one barely talkin’. Now she wondered if she would ever get the chance to speak with her petrified sister again. “But she’ll be back, hopefully.”

Big Mac was the quiet type, not at all likely to show emotion save certain points. This being one of them. He shed a single tear and decided not ask for the details. Applejack then continued her work hoping that Twilight can create a cure in time. She noticed that it was colder than when they left to find the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

Twilight and Fluttershy were at Fluttershy's cottage. She took out some empty vials and test tubes and went to Fluttershy.

“Is the cockatrice still here?” Twilight said.

“Of course,” Fluttershy said. “he’s surprisingly more cooperative than I thought.”

“I’m not surprised, you sure seem to have a way with animals.” Twilight went outside to the chicken coop, She created another magic blindfold and went inside with Fluttershy.

Twilight saw through the blindfold that the chickens were also blindfolded. She also saw the amethyst cockatrice in the back of the coop.

“All right, little guy,” Fluttershy said. “Twilight’s here for the venom.”

        The cockatrice cawed.

“He says that even if you made a cure, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to use it in time.”

“We have seventy-two hours left. We have plenty of time,” Twilight said. She levitated the vials and test tubes to the cockatrice.

The purple cockatrice rolled his eyes and then opened i’s beak. Venom was dripping out of his teeth and secreted into the empty vials, then into the test tubes. It then cawed.

“Well of course you can leave now, and thanks for the venom.”

The rare cockatrice then returned to the Everfree Forest.

Twilight removed the blindfolds. “Okay now I have more than enough for testing purposes.”

“What are you gonna test it on?” Fluttershy said.

“I found this piece of petrified lumber when were fleeing from the timberwolves. If the cure works, then the stone would be wood, simple.”

“I’m not sure it would be that simple,” Fluttershy said.

Twilight left for the library to study the venom.

Gale Force and his team went to the hospital to check on the filly they saved.

The doctor was at the lobby. He saw the pegasi there and approached them. “Ah you’re here. I suppose you want to see the patient you’ve brought in.”

        “That’s right,” Star Song said.

“Very well,” The doctor said. “I’ll bring you to her. Follow me.”

The doctor led the pegasi to where Silver Spoon’s resting.

Silver Spoon saw the doctor arrive with some pegasi. “Doctor, who are they?”

“These ponies are the ones who saved you,” the doctor said.

“Oh,” Silver Spoon said. “Thanks. I suppose that I should introduce myself. My name’s Silver Spoon.”

”I’m Gale Force,” the stallion introduced. “And this is Cloudchaser, Flitter and Star Song.”

“What’s up,” Cloudchaser said.

“Hello,” Flitter said.

“Nice to meet you,” Star Song said.

Silver Spoon felt a little uncomfortable.

Another pony handed her doctor some notes. He said, “Well Silver Spoon it looks like you haven’t suffered any deadly conditions, no  hypothermia or frostbite and you internal temperature is back to normal. You’re free to go.”

“Thank you doctor,” Silver Spoon said. She began to stand. “I guess I should head back to Ponyville now. My parent must be worried sick.” She looked back at the pegasi who saved her. “Thanks again.” She left the room.

“No problem,” Cloudchaser said.

Gale Force wondered if Silver Spoon knows something about the windigos. The pegasi left the hospital.
