//------------------------------// // Just Like Sisters // Story: Just Like Sisters // by The Mirage //------------------------------// Fluttershy stared into a mirror, her elegant cerulean eyes glistened in the sunlight pouring through a window. She slowly and carefully dragged a brush through her bubblegum pink mane. She smiled lightly at her reflection, which smiled back. She was going to see Rainbow Dash today, they were going for a walk through the whitetail woods today. She hadn’t spent any alone time with Rainbow lately, she’d been training harder than ever before to re-visit the Wonderbolts Academy. Fluttershy ran a hoof down her left foreleg nervously, an inner warmth in her creamy yellow fur lightened her mood a bit. She looked down at the floor, closing her eyes in thought. Get ahold of yourself, Fluttershy! She’s the same Rainbow Dash than before, nothing has changed, you two are still best friends! Fluttershy opened her eyes and sighed, looking up into the mirror, another pony stood behind her. A vibrant, gorgeous multi-colored mane and cyan fur gave the identity of the pony away. “Hey, Fluttershy!” She said, that familiar, raspy voice sent chills down Fluttershy’s spine. “H-Hey Rainbow Dash.” Fluttershy said, turning around to face the mare. Deep, glowing magenta eyes met a bright cerulean, the smoky pink irises seemed to bore into Fluttershy’s heart, quickening its pace. It was so nice to see her again, the confident grin she always wore, the way her voice bounced around in Fluttershy’s head, sticking in her ears. Her silky, smooth movement was like she thought of the way she would look in each step. “It’s nice to see you again!” Rainbow exclaimed, hugging Fluttershy. The shy pegasus could feel Rainbow’s heartbeat against her chest, her body warmth was soothing as she squeezed around the smaller frame of the yellow pegasus, a scent of mango lingered in the mare’s mane and fur. The hug was almost motherly, or like a sisters touch. Fluttershy had always thought of Rainbow Dash as her older sister, always protecting her when she needed it, Rainbow was able to pick on her, but nopony else could. “Shy?” Rainbow asked, pulling away a bit. “Hmm?” Fluttershy asked, pulling the mare back in a hugging position. “I said it was nice to see you again.” Rainbow repeated. “It’s nice to see you too...” Fluttershy said, feeling tears building in her eyes. Rainbow raised an eyebrow, “Why are you crying, aren’t you happy?” Fluttershy just nodded her head, afraid that she would release tears if she were to talk. Fluttershy thought she could stay like this forever, with her sister cradling her, gently brushing against her every few seconds, a rainbow mane resting on a yellow shoulder. The yellow pegasus felt a hoof run through her mane. A soft, gentle touch. “Y’know, I actually forgot how awesome you can be, Fluttershy.” Rainbow said. Fluttershy let the tears run, there was no point in holding them back any longer, she sniffled and cried loudly into Rainbow Dash’s chest, soaking her fur, but the rainbow maned mare didn’t care, it was enough to hold her sister again. “I always thought of you as a friend, Fluttershy, but over time I thought of you as a sister.” Rainbow said, Fluttershy didn’t see, but there were tears in her eyes too. Fluttershy felt hooves on both of her tear-soaked cheeks, Rainbow pulled her up to look directly into her eyes, neither pony cared if they were showing tears, sisters could show anything, and nothing would change. “I’m so sorry, I’m sorry I left you so soon...” Rainbow said, tears flowing from her eyes. “But you can’t remember what happened, I know it’s hard, I do. You have to remember the good times we had together, as well as the bad times, it’s what made us a family, it’s what made us sisters.” Rainbow explained, trying to hold her voice together. All the work Fluttershy had put into her mane had been ruined from the overwhelming amount of tears from both mares. Fluttershy looked down at her hooves, Rainbow Dash no longer in them, she had vanished from her home. The yellow mare cried louder and louder. She wanted the feeling of Rainbow Dash by her. “Fluttershy! What happened?! Let us in!” A voice called. Fluttershy looked up at her front door, which was boarded up, a few nails jutted out from the wooden planks, keeping the door closed. Twilight called something again, the other girls were shouting now too. A magic aura enveloped the door, rocking it back and forth, but not breaking it. Fluttershy stood up, a numb feeling overtook her being, she looked at a chair, oddly placed in the middle of the room. She looked above it, where a noose was hanging from the ceiling, rocking back and forth. There was more yelling as Fluttershy got up onto the chair, pulling the noose around her neck. She counted down, feeling tears dripping from her cheeks and onto her hind hooves. She was ready to leave, she closed her eyes. “Fluttershy!” The voice snapped her eyes back open, she looked down at Rainbow Dash, staring up at her with fire behind her eyes, despite the tears streaming, threatening to douse the flames. “You think this is your way to see me again? You think this is going to help?!” Rainbow yelled, the harshness in her voice tearing up Fluttershy’s heart. “Fluttershy, this isn’t your way out, this isn’t how you are supposed to go.” Rainbow said, “Those ponies out there need you more than I do.” The mare said, pointing to the window, where four mares stared in with fear in their eyes. “But... I need you, I want to see you.” Fluttershy choked out. “Fluttershy, I swear on my element that I will be with you everyday for the rest of your life.” Rainbow said, her voice cracking from the tears. “But if you do this, you will lose everypony else you care about, I know I’ve never been good at waiting, but I’m willing to wait for you, I’m willing to stay by you until we can be together again.” “Rainbow... I love you...” Fluttershy said, the noose loosening. “I love you too, Fluttershy.” Rainbow said, floating up to the mare and taking the noose off of her. Fluttershy smiled, hugging the mare before her. Rainbow Dash hugged back, kissing Fluttershy on the forehead. The door broke down. Fluttershy stood in the Ponyville graveyard, staring down at a single headstone. No tears in her eyes, only love in her heart and a weak smile on her face. She read the words for the thousandth time. Rest In Peace Rainbow Sky Dash 2010 - 2036 May what you love pass on with you. We will never forget you, or what you did for everypony. We love you. Fluttershy nodded, smiling brightly where her friend would wait for her until she too would pass on. She looked into the sky, breathing in deeply, the cool, spring air. “Thank you, Dashie.” She said. It had been two weeks since her door needed to be kicked down, since then she had grown much happier around her friends, appreciating them more and more than she already had before what had happened to Rainbow Dash. She had stayed just as quiet, but thought much more than before. She was able to think of Rainbow Dash without ever crying, she imagined talking to her every night and morning. It was almost like Rainbow Dash herself was talking back. She thought of her sister everyday, she never forgot her, not one day passed without a thought of Rainbow Dash. They would talk, and then they would talk some more, they would go on walks, they would walk for miles, and miles more. They did everything they possibly could together. Just like sisters.
