								Chapter 3



"What that thing said to me, Am I really useless?"


"NAY THOU ART NOT USELESS!" Came a familiar voice, but still just as loud as before, immediately startling the green unicorn. But this time he was able to see who was speaking with him.





Luigi's eyes widened with mouth agape at the figure in front of him. "W-who are y-you?" His timid nature clearly showing.


"Thou need not fear us, for we mean no harm to thee." She said in a much lower volume, this helped the green unicorn relax albeit a little. "We are Princess Luna, guardian of the night."

'Who's We? Wait, Princess Luna!? The same one Twilight mentioned earlier?' "U-um hello, c-can I ask how you're talking to me  now? W-where am I? T-this isn't where I was sleeping." 'Unless I was sleep-walking.'


"Thou art now asleep. You see we have the power to enter ones dreams and expel nightmares, Thou remember the one you had earlier?"


Luigi took a minute to absorb the information he was just given. "O-okay I think I get it." 'I think.' "I-in that case t-thank you, C-can I ask what that thing wanted with me, and how it knew me?"


Luna simply nodded her head. "We don't know what that thing was nor do we know how it knew thou. We are also worried how it was able to enter thy dream. It seemed to be using a different form of magic, We could not identify its magic signature."


'Magic signature?' "Hmm..what exactly is a magic signature?" 

The alicorn started to explain. "All magic leaves a magic signature, usually it can be identified but we have never seen a signature like that before."

'What?' "Okay I understand." He lied trying to make it look like he understood.


"We are sorry we can not be much help, We will do thy best to aid thee in figuring out how that monstrosity got into your dream." She assured.


Luigi looked into Luna's eye with a serious expression that is rarely seen on his face. "Not to mean any dis-respect princess, but why do you care?"


Luna looked away and sighed. "We understand thy's inner pain."


The green unicorn adopted a puzzled look, wanting her to elaborate more on the subject. "What are you talking about?"

"Thou will now soon enough. I wish thee farewell for it is time for thou to wake up. We will meet again."  She said flying away. 'We wish thee the best of luck in thy quest, remember thou art not useless, Thou will shine.'


"Wait!" He said wanting to ask more questions and get the answers he desperately desires. To no avail. 'Every time sigh, this isn't going to become a theme is it?'

"Will you get up, we're already running late as it is!" Twilight said with irritation clearly present in her voice.

"Ahhh!" Luigi startled as he rolled onto the floor. "Okay okay I'm up! I think..ugh."

"Good, know go hurry up and eat breakfast. We've got things that need to be done today."

"Alright, alright." 'Miss bossy.'


He made his way down stairs where he was greeted by Spike. "Hey Spike, is she always like that in the morning?" He said as he started eating.


Spike chuckled to himself. "Yeah that's nothing, you should see how she gets when she gets a test from the Princess."


"Oh, Wow really I feel sorry for you bro." 'bro, why does saying that make my heart start pounding'  Spike started to make pointing gestures trying to warn him that Twilight was coming, The green unicorn being oblivious did not see or heed the warning. "Living with that must be difficult."

"Hmhmm!" Luigi heard from behind. 'Oh no Twilight's behind me, isn't she?' "You were saying?" She said in an icy tone.



Fearing his well-being. "Oh uh nothing, nothing at all!"


"That's what I thought." She replied with satisfaction in her voice." Twilight sat sown and started to eat her breakfast.


Regaining his bearings he started to think to himself while still eating. 'Okay that dream last night, What does that Princess know that I don't? My inner pain? What did she mean by that? I still have no idea what that thing that appeared in my dream before wanted with me or how it knew me, this is something I need to look into later but for know the only lead I have is Princess Luna, she definitely knows more than she is letting on, Oh also that vacuüm cleaner upstairs maybe something about that will help will jog my memories and maybe-' 


Seeing the green unicorn staring into space. "Equestria to Luigi, anypony home?" Snapping him out of his reverie.

"Oh sorry, I guess I'm still a bit groggy." He feigned not wanting to cause unnecessary attention to himself.

'He is definitely hiding something from me, this is the second time he has done this, I'll have to investigate into this later' "Oh alright, If your done we should get going to get your hat fixed."

"Okey Dokey." Content with the subject not being dragged further made his way to the door.

"Spike I'll be gone for about an hour, can you tidy up the library while I'm gone?"

Spike groaned to himself. "As always..", Sure Twi, no problem."

"Thanks Spike I left some bits on the counter for you, after your done why don't you go pick up some cupcakes at Sugarcube Corner."

This seemed to perk Spike up a bit. "Okay thanks Twi."


'Sugarcube corner' "Oh no, I forgot to go back there yesterday!" He shouted startling Twilight and Spike.


Twilight grimaced at this. "You didn't 'Pinkie promise' did you?"

The Green unicorn gave her a quizzical look. "Um no, I can't anyway since I don't have opposable thumbs."

Twilight face-hoofed. 'What's is he talking about.' "Allow me to be more concise, did you 'Pinkie Pie' promise?"

Giving a very confused look, he tilted his head and replied "Uh no?" 'What's a "Pinkie Pie" promise? Something tells me that I don't want to know. Especially if it involves that hyperactive pink pony.

The lavender unicorn breathed a sigh of relief. "Then you should be fine....I think. Just don't forget to apologize."

"Okey dokey, will do, letsa go. 'Again I say that and my heart starts pounding, why? Any way what does she mean by "I think." Oh well I go apologize and problem solved right? What could possibly go wrong?'

As they were trotting along he noticed other ponies giving him a weird look. 'Do I have something on my face?' He thought to himself. "Oh I forgot there was a question I wanted to ask yesterday before Rainbow interrupted."

	
'This guy forgets everything..' "I'm listening?"

"What are these uh pictures on everyone's uh flank?" He asked with a degree of caution.

"Oh those are our cutie marks." She stated as matter of factly. "These represent our special talents, they appear once a pony discovers their special talent. For example my special talent is magic." She finished.

'Seriously "cutie marks." Well what do expect from a world of pastel colored talking ponies?' "Interesting." Looking at his flank to the picture of a mallet. "Wait my special talent is mallets...?"

"Well maybe you're good working with mallets or maybe building stuff, who knows." Twilight suggested.

'Well as long as I am not something lame like a plumber or something.' He stated in his head.



"Oh look there it is the Carousel Boutique." Twilight said pointing with her hoof.




'Seriously, "Carousel Boutique." What's next? A town called Manehattan?'  He laughed to himself at the thought.



Twilight already at the front door. She knocks on the door gently with her hoof. "Rarity, It's me Twilight. Do you have a minute?"

"Coooooming!" Echoed a refined feminine voice from inside. Not more than a minute later the door opened revealing an alabaster unicorn mare. "Twilight darling, what can I do for..Oh who's your friend?" She said winking at Twilight.

Blushing slightly, she regained her composure and spoke. "Rarity this is Luigi." Sighing to herself 'Cue monologue.' "Fluttershy found him unconscious yesterday in the Everfree forest and he can't seem to remember how he got there; I'm trying to help him regain his memory."

Rarity turned her attention to the green unicorn in question. "Oh you poor dear, Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Yes, we were wondering if you'd be willing to fix up his hat?" 'my precious book! sniff..'

"Oh, dear..that hat is hideous, why it's simply a crime against fashion." She said in a melodramatic tone.

Luigi offended by this. "Hey! It's not a-"

Seeing where this was going Twilight interrupted. "Rarity please just fix it up anyway?"

Sighing in resignation. "Oh alright, give it here darling, I'll have it ready later.

Pleased with her answer. "Thank you we'll be back la-" Twilight started before being interrupted by Spike.

Exhausted from running. "Pinkie..Sugarcube corner...pies-" Before he could finish a pie from out of nowhere struck the green unicorn in the face.

'Aww..I hate cherry, at least toss something good at me like blueberry.' He wiped the excess of pie off his face.

"Mr.Party forgetter meanie pants!" Pinkie came running with a pouting face.




Rarity gasped. "Skipping a Pinkie Pie party? How uncouth." She said while giving the green unicorn an incredulous look.

Feeling awkward. "Oh, uh sorry...I forgot..heh..heh."

From out of no where Pinkie withdrew two pies ready to toss them at Luigi.

Spike spoke up. "Run Luigi Run!" He yelled in dramatic tone.

"Okey dokey!" He began to run way from his assailant.

"Get back here you meanie Mcmeanie pants party forgetter!" She shouted as she started her pursuit after him.

Twilight sighed. 'This can't end soon.' "I'll go stop this before this gets out of hand. Rarity thanks again for agreeing to fix up his hat I'll let him know to pick it up later."

"Think nothing of it darling, I'll have it fixed in a jiffy, even though I still think that hat is hideous." The alabaster unicorn than gave a smirk to Twilight. "Oh and if you need some advice I'm here for you." Giving the lavender unicorn a suggestive wink. "Ta-ta for know."

'Will she stop doing that. ugh' "Bye Rarity." 'No to go stop those 3 from destroying the whole town, what have I got myself into.'

"Huff...all right I think we lost her." Luigi said as they took refuge in a nearby alley to catch their breath. 

Spike cast a slight glare at the green unicorn,"Huff..Please for our sakes can you please stop forgetting everything, and honestly why am I running? I didn't even do anything."

"Well excuse m-" He was cut off as Pinkie Pie popped up right behind them. "There you are Mr.party forgetter!" She declared as she withdrew two more pies out of now where. 

'How does she keep doing that?' Finally conceding in defeat as any effort to run away would be futile. "Okay okay I'm...sorry I forgot to come back yesterday, I just got to distracted and it slipped my mind. Please spare me!" He finished while holding his hooves in front of his face from the impending pastry assault.

She glared at him for a few second before her face did a 180, turning from a glare to broad smile. "Okii doki loki! Why didn't you just say that before silly?

'Am I being spared?' With a degree of caution he spoke. "H-huh?"

"I'll just throw your 'Welcome to Ponyville' tonight and I'll invite everypony." She started bouncing happily.

Spike also happy from being spared form the pastries of doom chimed in. "He'll even 'Pinkie Promise' on it."

Luigi hearing this. "Huh, I will?"

Spike giving the green unicorn a slight glare. "Yes you will! Just repeat after me."

Slightly intimidated at Spike's glare. "O-okey dokey?"

The purple dragon started. "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye."

"Ow!" Luigi said as he poked his eye with his hoof.


A certain lavender unicorn finally caught to the 3 in question. "What's going on here?"

"It's alright Twi everything is good know, the crisis averted." Spike assured.

'Already, for anything involving Pinkie, this is a new record!' She thought to herself.

"Yep oruni everything is great! I''ll see you later! I have a party to plan! I'll see you three tonight! She yelled as she started bouncing happily away.

Twilight smiling slightly. "Oh right Luigi don't forget to pick up your hat latter, and I emphasize please don't forget!"

"No more PIES!" He blurted out.

'Oh no I think Pinkie traumatized him for life.' "Will you calm down, your fine! Any way since your hat will not be done for a couple of hours and I'm pretty sure a party awaits your imminent future, let's head back to the library for now. I'll help you practice your magic, I want to see how strong it is." She finally finished.

"Uh I don't know...." He said with reluctance clear in his voice.

Twilight gave him a deadpanned look. "Oh you'll be fine, what could possibly go wrong?

'Oh no did she really just say that...?' He conceded. "O-okay." 'This will end badly.'

The lavender unicorn satisfied with his answer. "Alright let's get going, come on Spike."

"Please save me..coming."

Back at the library. Getting the green unicorn's attention "Alright lets start with something simple, we'll start with basic levitation." She said with a hint of enthusiasm.

Luigi obviously not sharing the same enthusiasm. "Uh..okay if you say so."

Spike sitting beside Twilight deciding to spectate. 

"Alright first, relax your muscles, and remember to stay calm and just let the magic flow." The lavender unicorn instructed.

Trying his best to obey closes his eyes. He then began to breathe in and out. His horn began to glow with a dark green aura.

Happy with the progress so far."Alright your doing very well so far! Okay, now focus your magic on this book and imagine it floating."

He turned his attention to the book in question and focused his magic on it. The book became cloaked in a green aura; It began floating into the air.

Twilight clapped her hooves together with glee. "That's it, excellent job!"

Luigi smirking to himself and blushing slightly at the compliment. He lost his concentration as the book began shaking still encased in the green aura catapulted and hit Spike right dead center in the face.

"Spike! Are you alright!" She shouted worriedly at her assistant.

Laying dazed on the floor for a few minutes before speaking up. "Note to self, stay clear of him when ever he uses any magic!"

Luigi attempting to stifle a laugh but failing miserably. "Heh..uh sorry."

Glaring at Luigi to get him to stop laughing "Sigh oh Spike." She then got the green unicorn's attention. "You did pretty good but next time remember to stay focused."

"Duly noted." 'Still it's nice it wasn't me getting hit for once, that's something right?'

"Alright that's enough with levitation for know let's try another simple spell, let's try illumination."

Wanting to be finished. "Can we do it later, I just want to sit and relax for a bit."

Spike grinning at the thought. "I'm with you on that buddy!"

"Ugh you two, no time to relax when there is stuff to be done! Come on and stop complaining and let's get this done."

Spike whispered to Luigi. "She's always like this just do it and save yourself the headache."

The green unicorn grinning a bit. "Will do."

"What was that you two?" 

The purple dragon panicking a bit, "Oh nothing just wishing him good luck with his magic." He lied.

'Honestly again how dumb do they think I am?' "Alright Luigi the illumination spell is as simple as levitation just focus your magic through your horn and imagine a bright light."

"Okay here goes." He began to focus his magic through his horn, but all that came out was a couple of sparks.

"It's okay just try again and remember to focus." Twilight encouraged.

Attempting once again but once again nothing but a few sparks came out. "Huff..." He began to sweat a bit until finally his horn began to glow again.

"Good, just a little more." She encouraged again

Keeping his focus this time, his horn's glow began to gleam as it became brighter and brighter until..he lost his focus with an immense flash of light temporarily impeding both Spike and Twilight's eyesight.

"Ahhh..I can't see." Complained Spike. "Alright I'm serious I'm staying away from you any time you decide to use magic, it's always me on the receiving end..sigh."

Breaking out of her temporary daze. "That wasn't a illumination spell, Regardless you did very well with a little practice perhaps you can put that light spell to some practical use."

"Uh..thanks I guess." 'My head hurts.' He groaned to himself.

Looking at the time."Alright that's enough practice for today, it's time to leave for the surprise party anyway."

"Okay, just please no more PIES!"

'I'm gonna have fun with that in the future' "Oh you'll be fine. Come on Luigi, Spike you can come to if you'd like."

Spike perked up. "Well what are we waiting for let's get going already!"

The 3 arrived at Sugarcube corner. Before entering the lavender unicorn spoke "All right Luigi, Even though you know what's going to happen just pretend to act surprised alright? Trust me on this."

The green unicorn nodded in confirmation. "Okey dokey."

Twilight opening the door with her magic, They all entered in unison.

1...

SURPRISE!!!

Even though he was expecting it the green unicorn yelped and jumped several feet into the air clinging on to the chandelier that was hanging above shaking in fear.

Twilight facehoofed and used her magic and levitated him back to the ground. 

Spike just laughed at his humiliation.

Not being able to regain his composure Pinkie jumped in front of him. "SO WERE YOU SURPRISED!? WERE YOU? WERE YOU?" She shouted while jumping up down repeatedly.

"U-uhh..yes you could say that." He replied while still shaking a bit.

"There's cake and punch! Oh do you like games? Do yo-" She was silenced by an orange earth pony mare.

"Ah' think he gits it sugar cube." She turned her attention to the green unicorn. "Howdy pardner the names Applejack, AJ fer short, glad to metcha." She said extending her hoof out in greeting.

He accepted the greeting. "M-my name is Luigi, n-nice to meet you." His timid nature showing once again.

"Don't worry sugarcube, ah don't bite." She chuckled. "So what's yer story sugarcube? How'd yeh end up 'ere in Ponyville?"

'Ugh cue monologue again' Twilight groaned to herself. "Yesterday Fluttershy found him out cold in the Everfree forest and he has no memory of how he ended up there, I'm attempting to help him recover his memory." 'Please be the last time I have to say this.'

AJ frowned. "Ah'm sorry to here that sugarcube, tell ya what come by to Sweet Apple Acres sometime and ah show ya around."

The green unicorn calmed down a bit. "U-uh sure that sounds great."

AJ grinned. "Sounds good sugarcube, now enough standing around git going enjoy yer party."

Luigi smiling slightly. "Will do thanks AJ." He went to start mingling with the other ponies not making much conversation his natural timid nature made it slightly difficult for him. He made his way to the punch bowl to get some punch, he began to practice his magic on a cup, that is until a certain alabaster unicorn mare trotted up to him breaking his focus on the cup.

"Ah there you are darling, I fixed up your hat good as new." She smiled as she floated the hat in question onto his head. "Even though it's still hideous."

"Oh thanks a lot looks great. I'm sorry but I don't have any money and..."

She waved a hoof at him dismissively. "Nonsense darling, you don't owe me a thing."

"Oh that's generous of you, Thank you." He said with sincerity.

"It was no trouble darling, Do come by if you require my services again." She said with a smile. "Oh also come if want to seek some advice. Ta-ta" She said giving him a wink as she walked away.

'What was that wink about eh whatever? Time to enjoy the party I guess.

The rest of the party was mostly uneventful aside from Luigi burning his tongue from drinking hot sauce flavored punch which caused quite a bit of laughter at his expense especially from Rainbow Dash. After a few hours everypony started to head home.

"Well that was some party Pinkie I had fun." Twilight said smiling to her friend. "Well I think it's time we headed back." 

"No problem Twilight! See you later!" Pinkie said bouncing up and down.

Spike fell asleep long ago in the punch bowl. Twilight Smirked as she levitated him onto her back. "Come on Luigi lets head back we have to be up early tomorrow for our meeting with the Princess."

"Okey dokey, let's get going. Bye Pinkie thanks for the party. 'Phew no pies.'

The walk back to the library was mad in relative silence. Once inside Twilight finally spoke up. "Well try to get a good night sleep, our day is going to be busy tomorrow."

'How many times is she going to remind me.'  "Alright good night I guess." He trotted up the stairs and laid down in bed awaiting sleeps comfortable embrace.

"Alright boss we've located him, shall we go after him now?" 

"HEHEHE no not tonight. Let him squirm for a little while longer. It's something I rather enjoy watching. HEHEH!"

"Yes boss as you wish." Said the minion.

"Tomorrow we strike, let him meet with this princess it will change NOTHING! HEHE!"

"Yes boss!" All the minions shouted in unison.

The boss turning his attention to a painting. "Awww don't worry your brother will be joining you real soon I can't wait! HEHEH!"




"Soon you will pay LUIGI! I will personally enjoy watching you suffer! I will make it slow and painful! HEHE!"
