Mothers Day in Equestria
This story is dedicated to all the Mothers out there, whether they are near or far, blood or not, alive or dead. Happy Mothers Day!
It was a beautiful morning, and everypony in Equestria was preparing for Mothers Day. As the sun crested over the cloud city of, well Cloudsdale, we join two Pegasi flying towards it to celebrate with their family.
"Okay Shy, you ready for today?" Rainbow asked the meek yellow Pegasus as they landed in a park.
"I should be asking you that. Did you get the flowers?"
"Pft, like I’d forget that." she said, grabbing them from her saddle bag.
"You did last year."
"Hey, I thought it was Mother's day, not 'Adopted Big Sisters get to Nitpick at Little Sister day'?"
The others hadn’t known until the week before that Rainbow and Fluttershy were siblings, even though Fluttershy had been adopted after Rainbow found out she was an orphan as they were about to go home from Flight Camp. Needless to say, her parents were delighted to adopt her after Dash pleaded with them.
It wasn’t until the next week after the adoption that she found out that Fluttershy was two years older than her.
Regardless, Dash loved her new big sister, and so had her family, and Fluttershy had loved her new family dearly.
"Hey there's dad!"Rainbow said, pointing to the only other pony that had a rainbow mane. "Dad! Hey Dad!"
A yellow streak went by her as Fluttershy ran up to the stallion. "DADDY!"
"Fluttershy, Dashie! You two have what we need?" the stallion said, hugging both mares.
"Yes sir! Is Mom...?"
"She's at home. Fluttershy, you ready for your part?"
"Oh yes, I just have to give her the tickets, right?"
"Hay yeah! Mom won’t know what hit her!"
"And what’s going to hit me?" a pink Pegasus with light blue hair asked.
"Oh! Nothing Mom!" dash said, going up to nuzzle her mother with Fluttershy. "Happy Mother’s Day!"
"Aww, thank you Dashie and Fluttershy." she said, returning the nuzzle to her two Fillies.
"Oh I know you’re going to love this! Dashie got us top row tickets to the Wonderbolts!" Fluttershy said, pulling out four tickets to the popular air performers.
"Dashie! You shouldn’t have."
"Aw ma, you know-"
Before she knew it, her mother had grabbed a ticket from Fluttershy and took off for the air stadium.
"Huh. Forgot we're almost equal in speed. WAIT UP MOM!" Rainbow Dash said, racing after her mother.
"Sigh, it’s just not Mothers Day until Those two start trying to race each other, right Fluttershy?"
Meanwhile in Canterlot, Twilight Sparkle, newest crown princess of Equestria, was making sure her own mother's day surprise for her mother was going well.
"Okay Spike, do you have the buffet ready?" Twilight asked her dragon assistant.
"Yep, everything's ready!"
"Good, Cadence, do you have mom's presents ready?"
"Uh huh, she's going to love what me and shining got her this year!"
"Excellent. Shining, is the house neat?"
"Do you even have to ask?" her brother asked, motioning around at the spotless surroundings.
"Of course, and check. All that's left is to-"
"Twilight! They’re almost at the door!"
"OH my goodness, places everypony!"
Outside, Night Light and Midnight Twinkle were getting close to the door.
"After you dear." Night Light motioned.
"Oh my, aren’t you the charmer." Midnight said. As she opened the door, the occupants inside let out a call of surprise.
"Happy mother's day Mom!" the two Alicorns, Unicorn and dragon chorused.
"Night Light? Why didn’t you tell me the kids were here?"
"Because it was a surprise my night star."
"Well, then I suppose you're forgiven, now where's my presents from the best royal children in the world."
"Well, Shining and I don’t have ours yet, but when it gets here in about eleven months, I’m sure you'll be happy." Cadence told her mother in law.
"Grandbabies! I'm going to be a..."
"Mom, Mom...dad could you..." Twilight asked her father.
"Of course dear." as he trotted off to get a book, twilight turned to her sister in law.
"You just had to blow my gift I got her out the water didn’t you?" she accused, levitating a square package from the gift pile.
"Well you know."
At the Sugarcube corner, Pinkie was celebrating mother’s day with two Ponies when was proud to call Mom.
"Happy Mother’s day mommy and Mrs. Cake!"
"Pinkie, you've told us happy Mother's day 48 times already>" Mrs. Cake told her somewhat adopted daughter while burping one of the cake twins.
"I know! It’s just because you two are the bestest best mommy and mommy figure in the whole entire multiverse!" she said excitedly while hugging them both.
"Well, we are pretty great, right sue?" Mrs. Cake asked the gray earth pony that was making silly faces at Pound Cake.
"Cup, you know that Pinkie is possibly the best daughter in the world."
"And what about me Mother?" Octavia asked.
"Yeah, and Me!" Blinky piped up.
"Hey, all three of us are the best daughters in the world!" Pinkie said, popping up in between her sisters. Hearing the twins babbling happily, she added "and you two are the cutest twins in the whole world!"
The twins babbled happily, satisfied that they were the cutest twins in the world.
"Well, in any case, I did get us tickets to my show in Canterlot, so we should be headed that way." Octavia said.
"Of course. I still can’t believe that you're the Inky I’ve heard so much about from Pinkie's stories." Mrs. Cake said, taking off her apron.
"Oh Celestia, what stories did you tell her Pinkie?"
"Ahhh. Rarity, I really have to thank you dearie. This spa visit is, as you would put it, simply divine!" Rarity's mother Pearl said as Lotus worked out the kinks in her back.
"Oh but I had to! This is the day we get to pamper our Mothers, so it’s only fair that I take you to the spa."
"Hey Sis, Mom, there's a mud pool in here!" a mud covered Sweetie Belle said, tracking it behind her. "Can we go in that next?"
"But of course Sweetie. And then we get to go shopping as well." Rarity smiled.
"Rarity, you don’t need to spend so much on me!" Pearl told her daughter. "I'm just happy to spend time with you."
"I know Mother, but as I said before, this is a day for you to be pampered."
"Well alright, but after we have a bite to eat." pearl told her daughters.
"Hey! Can I make lunch!?" Sweetie asked.
"I suppose you could." Rarity said nervously, remembering the last time Sweetie made 'lunch'. It wasn’t pretty.
"And then, after shopping we could go to the park!" Sweetie continued, thinking of all the fun they would have that day.
Later at Sweet Apple Acres, the Apple family was busy with their own Mother's day activities as the sun began to move down from the sky...
"You sure I look fine Applejack?" Applebloom asked her sibling.
"Of course ya do! Ma will love the dress." Applejack told the young filly. "Big Mac, ya got the picnic ready?" she then asked the big red stallion walking by the room.
"Eeyup."
"Alrighty then! C'mon everypony."
A few minutes later, the three ponies made it to the spot where they would have their picnic with their mother.
"Hi Ma, Pa, it’s us." Applejack said. "We made apple brown betty this year, so I’m sure you'll love it."
"Hey Ma, you'll never guess what we did this week in Miss Cheerilee's class! We got to make diet Dr. Hoof explode with Mentos!"
Big Mac simply nodded and placed a bouquet of flowers in front of their mother's grave.
As they continued to share what they did, two shooting stars streaked across the sky.
That night, in Canterlot, Princess Celestia joined her sister, Luna, as they looked up at the stars.
"This Mother's Day, We aren’t fully used to it just yet, but We made Mother a Macaroni artwork, as is traditional for Mothers day...” Luna said, proudly levitating a surprisingly crude macaroni picture to her sister’s side. "Do you think Mother would have loved it?"
"Mother loved any and all Art Luna." Celestia said. "But... I think she would have treasured this most of all."
"Then we shall make a copy for her to see in the sky!" Luna proclaimed, her horn glowing as some of the stars began shifting to make a copy of her art in the sky.
"Lulu... you do realize you'll have to move them back right?"
"We know this Tia, but just for tonight, we shall move the stars for Mother."
"Very well. Did you know that it was Mother who told me of Twilights destiny?" Celestia asked.
""Nay, We did not. Did she say anything about me?" Luna asked.
"Just that she missed you and loves you always."
Luna held back a sniffle and looked up at the sky. "We...I love you too Mommy."
"Tell anypony We called our Mother that, and We shall end you."
"Fair enough Luna."
