//------------------------------// // Killing Time // Story: Killing Time // by thatguyfromkfc //------------------------------// The memories kept coming back. No matter how hard he tried to fight them. The memory of the night Twilight and the others had died. And it had all been his fault. He could never forgive himself for what he did. He stood there in the cold wind, reluctantly letting the memories return. Every time he had the memories he could feel the anger return. Not towards Ponyville, now, but towards himself. He let the memories engulf him until he was right back where it all began. The day it all went wrong. It had all been caused by a stupid argument. He had almost gotten one of his best friends killed and slowly began his descent into madness. "This isn't my fault!" He screamed as loud as he could. He could feel the anger boiling inside of him. "Not your fault!?" Pinkie yelled back. Nopony had ever seen Pinkie this angry. Not even when she had thought all of her friends hated her. Red Rover couldn't take it anymore. The anger burst out of him. He grabbed a knife from the counter and sliced it at Pinkie. A maroon liquid poured from the cut. Pinkie collapsed onto the floor and lost conciousness. When Red Rover realised what he had done he turned and ran. He didn't look back, not once. He couldn't. He burst through his house door then slammed it shut. Nopony would forgive him. Red Rover stayed in his house for weeks. After a while he had begun muttering to himself and talking in his sleep. The memory came back every night. Him raising the knife, Pinkie falling to the floor. Every time he awoke with a start. He hadn't forgiven himself for what he did to Pinkie. Nopony ever came to check on him. But he wasn't suprised. He didn't even know what happened to Pinkie after that. He was close to the point where he would go insane. But until that day came he would hide. He was almost at breaking point. He sat alone. His head shot up. He had an idea. He walked into his kitchen and grabbed a knife from the counter. He then walked to his front door and pushed it open. He stepped into the cold, dark night. He was going to finish what he started. He looked down at the sleeping pink pony that lay before him. He had small memories of the times they had together. The parties, the pranks with Rainbow Dash. A small smile appeared on his face. He quickly shook his head as if he was trying to get rid of the thoughts. He raised the knife ready to stab down. Suddenly Pinkies eyes shot open. She looked at Red Rover with a look of terror in her eyes. He dived over her and smashed through the window, landed on the ground and sped off into the dark. Red Rover sat on the floor rocking back and forth. It was like he was having an argument with himself. "It's all her fault! No it's not... it's yours. You could have killed her." He stopped rocking and stood up, slowly. He placed his hooves on the table. "IT'S NOT FAIR!" He knocked everything off the table and then flipped it over angrily. He sat back down, shaking. He had to get his anger out in some way. He looked out of the window and found the perfect way. He followed the pony into an alleyway. Nopony knew they were there it was the perfect time to strike. He dived at the stallion and slammed his head into the wall. The stallion lay on the ground shaking as Red Rover stood over him. Red Rover raised his hoof and brought it down. The stallions head slammed into the ground as the hoof connected with his face. He heard a crack and blood began to pour from his nose. The last thing the stallion saw was his attacker raising a knife and bringing it down. Red Rover smiled satisfied with his work. He turned and walked from the alleyway. He spent the next few days stalking random ponies at night. He had become infamous as the first Serial Killer in Ponyville. He was in the middle of planning something. Something huge. And nopony would be able to escape. The problem with the search for him was nopony knew who was doing it or where the killer was. Which meant nopony would expect it. The killings always happened at night and always involved a single pony. This would happen in broad daylight when ponies would feel safer. And it would involve everypony. He was planning a massacre. Red Rover snapped out of the memory. He was almost at the day they died. The day of the massacre. The day he never wanted to remember. He closed his eyes and felt himself fall back into the memory. Red Rover spent hours planning the massacre. As the day grew closer he grew more excited. But he didn't know that far away in the city of Canterlot, Princess Celestia was preparing Twilight and the others for the day. She knew it was coming and was determined to stop it. Knives and other weapons lay on the table and he examined them each seperately, picking the imperfect ones and laying them aside. "It's time." Everypony stared at him as he stood in the doorway. That was when they realised who the killer was. They realised he had been hiding away in his house. They saw him raise a small box with his magic, smiling. They had no idea that he had planted explosives on the sides of buildings at night. The button was pushed down and there were explosions all around. There were screams of terror as all of the ponies fled. He pressed the button again and more explosions went off. Debris was scattered everywhere. He levitated knives out of his bag and threw them in all directions. Ponies fell to the ground. A river of bright red began to flow across the ground. He levitated another object out of his bag which made all of the unicorns scream. "HE'S GOT A GUN!" The Pegasi and Earth Ponies had heard of guns but never seen them. Everypony began to run about screaming. The trigger was pressed down and bullets flew everywhere. Suddenly the gun was knocked out of his hand by a stronger force. He turned around to see Princess Celestia standing infront of Twilight and the other five mares. He smiled, evilly. "Hello, Princess Celestia." He tried to throw a knife towards her but she knocked it away with her magic. "Twilight." She said. The six mares stepped forward each bearing the elements. Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash on their necks, Twilight on her head. Each element began to glow brightly. Red Rover just stood there, bored. The rainbow shot towards him and his horn began to glow. The ray began to shrink down until it was gone. Everypony stared. "No." Rarity gasped. "We can't do it. It's too dangerous to try. We'll be killed!" Twilight had a sad look on her face as she looked at Red Rover. "We have to. I'm sorry, girls." The elements began to glow again, brighter this time. A bubble began to form around the mares lifting them off the ground it began to shrink towards them before it suddenly burst outwards. It engulfed Red Rover in energy. He had a terrified look on his face. The light died down and he dropped to the floor. He slowly opened his eyes to see Princess Celestia standing over him. "I'm sorry." He sobbed "It's not my fault! I didn't mean to! It was her fault!" Princess Celestia looked at him with a puzzled look on her face. "Her fault?" "The same thing that turned Luna into Nightmare Moon." He explained, still sobbing. Princess Celestia knelt down and put her hooves around him. "I should have seen it coming. We've destroyed it for now but I don't know how long it will be until the spirit returns. I forgive you, Rover." "I love you, Mom. I don't even care about my life anymore. I got them killed. My friends." Princess Celestia looked at her son with sad eyes. She knew he would never forgive himself for what happened but she had to try. "It isn't your fault." She held out a hoof but he just ignored her. "It is! I shouldn't have gotten so angry I just let my mind open for her to manipulate me." Princess Celestia knew she couldn't do it. She hugged him sadly. They just sat there looking up at the sky trying to forget about everything that had happened. But they could never do it. They could never just forget.
