My Little Cry : Fear is Magic

Chapter II : Arrival and Coffee

I awoke to a bump and the sound of screeching breaks. I looked around and still there was nopony other than me and that foal on the train. I stretched then got up off the train, following the brown foal. As we both stepped off, the conductor asked for my ticket, which I gave. The foal went and met up with what looked like four other ponies. One of them was a farm girl from what I could tell with her hat and all. Since I had no idea where Sugarcube Corner was, I decided to ask for directions.
"Excuse me," she turned towards me "do you know where Sugarcube Corner is?"
"Well, 'ya gotta be new here if 'ya don' no where Sugarcube Corner is!" She spoke with a heavy southern accent.
"Yea, considering I just got off the train, yes" I replied
"Hehe. Well, first 'o all, mah name's Applejack! What's yours?" She said as she outstretched her hoof.
"Nick, Nick Flash." I said as I took her hoof and began to shake.

Before I could move my hoof, she grabbed it with both of her hooves and began shaking so hard, I thought my arm would pop out of its socket. I heard the fillies behind me start to giggle. Applejack looked at me and saw my face. She immediately knew what she was doing and stopped. I looked at my hoof, waiting for the feeling to come back.
"Hehe. Sorry. Sugarcube Corner is down main street and it'll be the house that looks like candy."
"Alright. Thank you." I said with a smile. More of a forced smile. I haven't smiled in a year.

A couple minuets later I found myself walking down the street. I had my hood over my head and other ponies were looking at me suspiciously. The town's buildings were mostly made of wood. That was until I came to a big bakery that looked like it was made entirely of candy. Of course it was fake, what was I thinking. The stuff looked age driven and it hasn't melted at all. It was the end of summer going on fall, but it still could melt.

Once inside I looked around for Snowbreeze, and found her at a table by the window. She was smiling and waving at me. As I walked over I noticed that she had two cups of coffee on the table. I sat down and removed my hood from my head.
"Why did you take so long?" she asked as she slid a full cup of coffee over to me.
"I had....complications locating this place. And I met Applejack." I said as I took a sip of the coffee. It was amazing! I don't even know what kind of coffee it was but it was good.
"Well that explains enough. She tends to get a bit riled up when she meets new ponies. Although, not as much as Pinkie."
"Who now?" I say, taking another sip of the sugary beverage.

And yet before I knew it a pink blur stood next to me and I almost jumped out of my skin. I quickly recovered and mde out a pink pony mare. Her coat was hot pink, and her mane and tail was a darker shade of pink. And it looked as if it were cotton candy. She had blue eyes and wore the biggest smile I have ever seen.

"Hi! My name's Pinkie Pie! What is your name? You must be new here if I don't know your name! *GASP* That means you havent had a party yet!" and with that she was gon as fast as she appeared.

I looked to Snowbreeze who was covering her mouth trying to keep a laugh down. That eventually failed and she brok into a fit of laughter. I was just now scared about being mugged and she laughes at me like it was normal? I wasn't mad, more curious as of what just happened. I gave her a look and she started to calm down.

"Settle down, that was just typical Pinkie Pie. But yea, She gets excited when a new face is in town." She said as I relaxed.
"Yea, now that I think about it, why did you talk to me on the train and invite me to coffe?"
"Well, you looked alone and without friends. And if you want to be in this town, you're gonna need some friends. And why did you ask me like that? Is something wrong with that?" She said a litle confused.
"What? No,no! It's just, I havent been shown kindness in a long time. Not like I care." I took a drink of the cofee.

We sat there in silence for a little while. Both drinking our drinks. I broke the silence suprisingly.

"So really. What kind of coffee is this?" I ask looking at my cup.
"It's cupcake. Do you like?" the unicorn asked with a smile.
"Yea, best cup of coffee I've had in a long time." I said then finished my cup off.
"Yep, my mom used to take me here to get this kind all the time when I was little. But she passed recently."
"I'm sorry. My parents died in a train wreck." I said. I knew how she felt.
"The one in April last year?" she said in a low tone looking up. At this my ears picked up.
"Yeah! How did you know?"
"It was nearby" Snow said.
"Well, thanks for the coffee. Do you have any inns here? I really don't have a place to stay." I ask sheepishly.

Snow pondered for a moment.
"No, none that I can think of."
"Damn it" I cursed under my breath.
"But I do have an empty room you could stay in if you want."

I looked up at her and could tell she was serious. But so was I.
"I'll take you up on that offer" I said as I got up. I took her empty cup as well as mine and threw them away. In the bin by the door. Snowbreeze followed me out.

"Hey. Like I said, you'll need friends in this place. So I can show you some of mine." She said as we walked down the street.
"Hey. I can make friends." I say with a reassuring tone.
"You can? Can you?"
"No"
"Ha"
"Shutup. Where are we going anyway."
"The Library"
"Why?"
"You'll see" She said as she took the lead.

We made our way through the streets. Snow was waving to ponies as we passed by, but I was looking at all of the buildings. If I was going to spend time here, I know that I will have to get a good image of this place. I've noted that some buildings are different than others, such as the Town Hall, which was made out of what looked like marbel. Snowbreeze stopped as did I. What was in front of me was a huge tree that looked to be completly hollow.

"Here we are!" Snow said pointing her hoof at the gigantic tree in front of us.
"Really? A tree filled with books. How ironic." I chuckled.
"...Anyway, let's head inside." She said then pushed the door in.

The place was a wreck, it looked like a storm went through here. There were papers and books scattered around. Spots were missing in the book shelves and a table was overturned. I looked to Snow who had an even heavier look of confusion than I did. Apparently something wasn't right.

"...Heh, Twilight is probably tardy on something again. I'll go find her. You sit here and I'll bring her back. Ok?"
I nodded then found a seat on a couch. She looked upstairs then came downstairs and decided to go into the basement. I looked on the ground at the books that was littered around. One caught my eye. It was a red book with gold trim. I picked it up and looked at the cover. It read: Magic Studies: Transmutation and Augumation.
'Heh. Magic.' I thought, but then I looked at the top of the book. There were multiple bookmarks sticking out. I looked to the basement door, then to the entrance door, then back to the book.
'Couldn't hurt if I take a look.'

I started to look through the book until I got tired. I set the open book on my lap, pulled my hood over my head, and drifted to sleep. I slept peacefully, until IT crept up again.
