Across the Barren Wastes, A Tale of the Heart

Leon Script's Journal: Lost Without Hope (Original)

If you are reading this then one of the following must be true;
I am dead, I have been robbed, or I trust you with my life.

Keeping this in mind I might as well introduce the events which have led to writing this particular journal. I was born and raised in the village of Lastable, a fairly well populated earth pony haven. Most of us grew up and became laborers or crafts-ponies, but I was not so fortounate to be given a simple life. As I was writing once out of boredom my mark came to me and I was astonished to see a pen instead of the expected hoe or plow which a few of my friends had received. I started a small shop after a few years, changing my last name so it would read, "Leon Script's Writing Services". I've had good business copying books and documents for a variety of clients, especially because it was faster than sending it to be done by the unicorn tribe despite their teleportation magic and the pegasi transport services. This greatly removed interactions with the other tribes, though, and I believe may have contributed greatly to the tensions at the time. This general distrust, and an overdue winter, was what I believe created the great war leaving me in my current situation.

Before I got lost amidst this storm I read and heard many rumors through my work. I gathered that the war began with an issue to end winter on time, but the specifics as to who was to blame for it was nonexistant. The common thought in Lastable was that the pegasi were slacking and letting the clouds re-cover the ground. Notes from their tribe, however, denied this entirely and stated they believed that the unicorns were responsible being forgetful and leaving the night too long keeping the world cold. Other documents which arrived from the unicorns denied these claims and stated they could ensure their job completion with clear skies and a snow-less ground. The words grew harsher with each passing day and I was greatly overworked processing each increasingly stressful request and documentation. I feared that there would be a break and all would fall red in the snow, but I put faith in the leaders, as they strove to avoid conflict using all their powers.

However, the will of the ponies and citizens could not be withheld for such an indefinite time. The scarcity of resources was gradually increasing and finding a meal became abnormally difficult. A rebellion broke out among the disillusioned pegasi, exiling their leader telling them to never return unless they found a new home or came to an agreement with the other tribes to end the winter. The earth tribe's leaders decided to leave in order to assist with negotiations, but the capital was quickly overwhelmed after their leaving. This led to the formation of the guards which officially started the war. The pegasus Sky-Guard dictatorship was formed first and immediately launched a surprise attack on the unicorn kingdom. Their king and queen were killed, but the princess survived and fled with her closest assistants according to the reports I've seen filed. Earth-Guard was quickly formed under the earth tribe in order to challenge the Sky-Guard. Also, there is rumor of the unicorns forming a Dawn-Guard, but their closed communication has left little solid information.

Upon my receival of this information, along with the notice of a draft instated by Earth-Guard, I closed shop and fled the town, rushing into the snowstorm with a determination to not be involved in this futile war breaking out. It was scarcely believable the casualties in reports and the hate in the mail. I didn't know where I was heading, and as of now I am still clueless. This fear has been driving my numb body so long I am near complete exhaustion. I hope that something happens soon to save me from this miserable suffering, already my hand aches from writing this account in the cold. Perhaps I could use this for a fire or anything... I'm lost and without a friend as all of mine were taken by the draft. The only option I have left is to continue forward and hope that there is something beyond this snowy Armageddon...
