// Story: The Return

Celestia was the first to speak, " Who enters the throne room at this time of the day? The throne room is open at ..." , but before she could finish her question she took a closer look at the two alicorns that entered the room, almost like... she knew the two. " Who are you two? Why are you here?" Celestia asked as she tried to keep the look of confusion off her face and regain her royal composure. Celestius looked at the white alicorn sitting on the throne in the centre of the room and began to smile, " Be a dear Celestia and go and call your mother. I bet she will want to see us right around now." With this Celestia reached out with her magic to an unknown part of the castle. Canus began to blush at the way his father was acting in front of royalty, he bowed as low as he could and began to speak with the most sincerest of tones, " My apologies princess. My father obviously doesn't know ... " , but before he could finish, Celestius stopped him , looking at him whilst smiling, " Canus, there are no need for such formalities among family."

Canus could feel his jaw hitting the floor as he stood up from his bow, " Family? Father you must be mistaken, these are the royal sister and rulers of Equestria. There is no way..." 

" Canus, don't take that tone with your father," said a new voice from behind . As quick as his neck would allow him, he swung it around to look at where the voice had come from. Where the voice had come from stood an alicorn of dark vibrant colors; black and blues and purples; all were interwoven into the the alicorn mare's coat and mane. At a quick glance, one could have mistaken her coat for the universe. Now that he thought about it, it look almost identical to the heavens above, all the colors and patterns were so familiar. He could not take his eyes off of the mare standing before him, she was much older than he was , yet she had somehow looked very familiar to him, but he could not quite put his hoof on it. The unknown alicorn began to move to the throne where Celestia had risen from and now stood next to. " Sorry to have disturbed your slumber, mother."

'Mother..... MOTHER?! Is this alicorn the Queen... ' Canus' mind could not comprehend any of this and he began to breath nervously. " What in the name of the sun and the moon is going on?" This was all that could leave his mouth as he began to seek for answers. 

" I believe it is time for a story, don't you think Galaxia?" Celestius looked deep into the eyes of the mare now seated on the throne. " I do believe you are right, my love."
'My love?!?! What the buck is going on here' his head began to feel like a ball of yarn being pulled apart by cat with aggression issues.

" Ok , I shall begin. Long ago before any of you were born, Galaxia and I ruled over Equestria and all the other lands. It was a time of peace and prosperity, but all that changed when the Rebellion had formed. Anarchists and radicals bent on overthrowing the crown and ruling the lands in a dictatorship. We were able to suppress the rising of the Rebellion, but we were never able to finish them off. Your mother had fallen pregnant at the time with our first child, a colt, you Canus. You are our eldest and my air to the throne. We will get back to the rest of your story later on, for now we must continue forward. Three years after your birth , your mother became pregnant once again, this time with a mare, you Celestia. We had decided to name you after my mother, your grandmother. Live was good in Equestria and there was nothing but peace and prosperity. But we were fools to have believed that it would have stayed that way, for it was merely the calm before the storm. Four years later your mother fell pregnant was again, also with a mare, your youngest sister, Luna. But it was also the year of the arrival of Discord, god of chaos.

This was the biggest threat that had ever faced our kingdom and we all feared for the future and our children. We had, at first merely placed a barrier around the kingdom to protect our lands, but this would never have been enough to stop the god of chaos. Discord had slipped inside the barrier, passing himself off as one of the woodland creatures seeking refuge and we played right into his hands. He laid waste to the kingdom and no pony was safe from his chaos. While I was trying to save some of the other ponies , Discord had sneaked into the castle and the guards were torn asunder by his magic, but before I could do anything it was to late. He had made his way to Galaxia's chambers and she could do nothing but scream for help, while Discord reached inside her. We weren't sure what he was trying to accomplish, but before he could finish I did the unmentionable. I used forbidden magic to turn my life essence into magic so I could defend my wife and my kingdom, and I did, but the battle had left me weakened and short on life essence, I knew I only had a few years  to live and Galaxia knew this. I tried to reassure her that everything was going to be fine , but your mother was always hard headed and used a resurrection spell on me everyone who had fallen in the battle with Discord. 

She told me that we who had fallen would be revived, but not in this world. She said that she would , one day when the time was right, send message that the preparations were completed and we could return. As we spent our last moments together before she had cast the spell, you suddenly burst through the doors, with tears streaming down your face. I remember what you said to this very day ' Mom, you can't do the spell, not on your own! You would put the baby in harm's way. I will assist with the spell to reduce the strain.'. But once again you had spent to many times sniffing through your mother's spell books and you knew all the risks paired with the spell. So you had made the decision to place the most of your magic as well as your life essence  into the spell, so that your unborn sibling would be spared and you would meet me on the 'other side' so I wouldn't be alone. I always forget how grown up you were for your age. Back to the point after the spell had been cast, our bodies began to decay and vanish into nothingness, our souls were transported to a new world, a planet that had recently formed and was inhabitable. We were brought here and placed in bodies that were completely new and different, but we were content for the time and began to thrive and develop. Beginning small settlements and growing ever larger and becoming more advanced. We began to realize that when we died , we were not lost , but simply reborn in a new body. This was the cycle for thousands of years, until the MLP began to show on the television, the idea came to the descendant of a once loyal servant of Galaxia, who had given her life to save her queen. This was the first of the signs that the time was nearing for our return. Now we are at the present day and back happily where we belong. Any questions?" 
Finally the moment Canus had been waiting for, though he could see that he was the only one still lost and confused after the story . " So you are King Celestius, ruler of the heavenly bodies, and my mother is Queen Galaxia, ruler of the vast expanse of the universe? This is so freeking awesome!!" Celestius looked quizzical at his son before letting out a question of his own, " How do you know so much about us and our roles in Equestria?" 

Canus smiled sheepishly and answered with a singsong voice , " Internet and Fan fics, glad to see they finally paid off." Canus let the smile disappear from his voice as more questions began to flood his mind, " But what is my special talent, why is my name Canus, what is my purpose in life? What had Discord attempted on Luna before she was born?"
Galaxia intervened before Celestius could speak, " I will take this, my love. Canus, you are named after the heavenly body, Canus Majoris, since it was visible in the night sky on the night of your birth. As for your special talent, that was somewhat contained in the story from your father. Like Celestia's student, Twilight Sparkle, you have a natural affinity for magic and these types of things. In the few years you were with us, your magical abilities, rivaled mine. As for you cutie mark , that is something that had intrigued me for many years, until I had met miss Sparkle myself. Then all became clear. Your cutie mark is the same as her's only differing in color, that is because of the second affinity you had."

Canus gazed back at the alicorn mare, now known as his mother, after staring at the mark on his black flank. ' A second affinity? Is that possible?' was all that went through his mind. 

" Like your siter, Celestia, you have an immense connection to burning heavenly bodies. Your sister is connected to the sun and can controll it with little effort, while you are connected to you namesake star. As for Luna, it took me many years to discover the plans he had for her. At first we thought that he had failed in what ever he was trying do , but as the years went by, Luna began to become reckless and disobedient. We thought this was simply a fase she was going through since she had lost her father and brother, but things began to worsen. She began to tamper with dark arcane magic and other spells of this sort. Until one day Discord's intentions became clear. On that night he reached into me, he had touched Luna while she was being formed inside me. It was this touch that had begun to corrupt her, but he wasn't able to fully corrupt , since his spell was broken by your father's assault. That is why she had become so evil and had to be banished. But there was always a hope. The elements that your sister used to imprison her, could also be used to free her from the corruption that had taken over, and so for many years we waited for ones who could wield the elements with the most powerful force of all, the power of friendship. And we found them, a thousand years later, but we found them . They became known as the bearers of the elements of harmony. They have since helped us many times to defend our kingdom and safed Luna. One of them had also done the impossible , she had ascended and had become an alicorn, something we thought was impossible. I had also arranged with Celestia that she was to be married to royalty, you Canus. The two of you are each others duplicate in power and wisdom. You will make fine rulers.  "

Canus took all this in, considering all that had been said, mauling with the stories that his parents had said. Finally looking up at his parents, with one last question on his mind, one last answer he sought before his mind could be laid to rest, " So what do we do now?"

Galaxia smiled at him and gestured for all the alicorns in the room to come near. When all the ponies in the room were near, she said, " Now we live the life we were meant to have all those years ago." 
And so it came to be, Canus was soon after married to Twilight and they became the new King and Queen of Equestria. All was once again as it should be, happy and at peace.
