//------------------------------// // In the End // Story: In our Final Moments // by bronypanda //------------------------------// In our last moments "We couldn't stop the queen... we failed..... No we didn't, we're finally together again". "She failed, not us" Through the entire city, green fires scatter across every building, bringing down each structure to nothing but ruins and ashes. The screams of children trapped in their homes, sadly unnoticed, for nopony can hear them. On the streets, horrible disgusting creatures feed upon the living. Changelings, they were called. But they were nothing more than mindless monsters. To murder and destroy everything as nature created them to do. In the distance, a group of changelings devour the remains of what used to be a pegasus. Such a painful scene that should never be mentioned. Horrible screeches echo throughout Canterlot, mixed with the cries of agonizing pain, terror and sadness. But this day was not supposed to be a day of sorrow and fear. Today was a day that two ponies tie the knot and become one with each other. Today was the wedding of Princess Cadence and Shining Armor. How could a glorious event such as this end up in complete disaster? How could a beautiful event be transformed into a day of living hell? Queen Chrysalis was responsible. The one that started it all. The ruler of the changelings. After the death of Celestia, the will to fight back was all but lost. One by one, the element bearers fell to the changelings either they were cornered by the zombie like beings and eaten, or they had been bitten, and had turned on each other. Twilight, the element of magic, committed suicide after witnessing her mentor’s death. Princes Luna was easily torn apart by the queen herself. The two lovers were alone. They had no one to save them, nor the strength to escape. All they had.....was each other. And that was all they needed. Alone, trapped in the chapel which was where they were meant to be wed. They were surrounded, changelings banging on the heavy wooden door trying to get in; some trying to break through the stain glass windows that usually brightened the vast hall. But only a few beams of the sun penetrated the walls. It would have been complete darkness had it not been for the glowing horns of the young lovers. Tears were flowing down Princess Cadence's face as Shining Armor gently patted her hooves. "Do you p-princess Mi Amore Cadenza t-take me, Shining Armor to b-be your husband"? Shining Armor said out-loud weakly. "I...*sniff* I do.... And do you Shining Armor, take me *sniff* Princess....C-Cadence as your wife"? Cadence responded as equally weak. "I do". He answered. The banging and scratching noises continued to echo but it didn't bother them. Sitting on the altar, they both stared into each other's tearful eyes as they held each other's shaking hooves and together they spoke, "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you... "Mare", "and Colt". As these words were spoken, they both levitated each other’s rings onto their horns and slid them in place. Their eyes completely red, the newlywed, shared their first kiss as a married couple. The kiss lasted a few seconds before they both separated as they chuckled lightly. "We're married". Cadence sobbed. "Finally". Shining Armor replied. An unusually louder bang rang through the chapel causing the princess to jump into her husband’s arms. Shining Armor comforted her as best as he could but he new the truth. He knew that this was their final moments. But he was happy that it was with his true love. "Shhh...It’s okay...I'm here". He whispered. "I'm so...scared". Cadence cried. "How about we talk about our new life to pass the time"? Shining Armor whispered. Princess Cadence lifted her head and looked at him with confusion. "What do you mean"? She asked "Here I'll start" he began. "After this, we're gonna move to a far away land, were no one can bother us, maybe in the country side where we can be alone. We'll have kids, and we'll just be one big happy family". Cadence chuckled as Shining Armor wiped away her tears. She took a quick glance around her, her wedding dress was torn, and Shining Armor's suit was burnt. The banging was getting louder and some of the glass windows were shattering but she didn't care anymore. "I...I want to name our first daughter Twilight". She said trying to hold back more tears. The Captain flinched at the sound of his late sister's name but kept strong for the sake of his wife. "Yeah...*sniff* yeah, that’s a wonderful idea, and her auntie Twili will love it". He answered, crying. It was Cadence's turn to wipe away Shining Armor's tears. She was no longer crying. And she didn't want him to be sad anymore. "And we're gonna teach her how to walk, and panic when she gets sick". Cadence continued. "And we're gonna get old....or hehe, at least I will". Shining Armor finished. "No....we're gonna get old...together". Cadence added. "Right....together". He responded "Forever". They whispered in unison. The breaking of glass interrupted their peacefulness. During their talk, they had almost forgotten where they were. But now neither of them was crying. "Do you remember that slow song that played during our senior prom"? Shining Armor asked. "Of course I do...that’s OUR song". Cadence giggled. "As I recall, the bride and groom are supposed to have a slow dance after their wedding". Shining Armor chuckled. Laughing with him, Cadence got up on her hooves, along with Shining Armor as they approached each other and tightly embraced. They began waltzing in smooth steps, while Shining Armor hummed the tune of "Love is in Bloom". It was the song that Twilight was going to sing at their reception. They continued to dance for a few minutes until once again; they were interrupted by the chaos around them. Before they separated, Cadence lifted her head to Shining Armor and kissed him once again. The banging around the room was clearly becoming more violent. Cadence moved toward her husband for safety. "Maybe.....*sniff* maybe we could- She was interrupted by Shining Armor's hoof being placed on her lips as he slowly shook his head sadly. She nodded in reply with tears in her eyes as the young couple looked around, bracing themselves for their last moments together. With a heavy heart Shining Armor looked to his love. "It's time". Was all he whispered. Cadence did nothing but nod her head as one tear made its way down her cheek. The two stared at each other for awhile as they both leaned in and shared their last kiss. It was a kiss that should have lasted forever. Breaking the kiss, Shining Armor's horn began to glow then fizz with magical energy. Cadence's horn mimicked her husband's as a flash of blue magic engulfed it. They both leaned in and their horns touched as a purple light illuminated the chapel. With one last regret on her mind, Cadence spoke up, "We failed", she said loudly, Shining Armor looked at her, puzzled. "We couldn't stop the queen". "No" Shining Armor interrupted. "SHE failed" he continued, “She tried to separate us, take us away from each other. But look, here we are. Married. Together". "Forever". Cadence finished "Forever" He repeated. At that moment the changeling swarm broke through the giant door and through the once beautiful windows as they viciously made their way to their victims. With tears in their eyes, both Shining Armor and Cadence said to one another sadly but with a smile, "I love you". Time slowed down as the two ponies closed their eyes and were lost in a magical aura. It was an aura that could be seen throughout the entire city. And In a flash of white light, the chapel, the changelings....and the royal couple......ceased to exist. oooooooo "In the end, our love proved to be stronger than anything. Even at our weakest, as long as we were together we were strong. As long as we loved each other, nothing could separate us. Even..... .....in our last moments"
