//------------------------------// // Letters From A Friend (Cancelled) // Story: The Lost and Found Box // by Vetnern //------------------------------// Chapter One I was laying there, looking up at the sky, my head on the soft, green grass. Thinking back on my life and how I ended up here. This, for me, was a place to unwind, a place where I could escape from everything. I sat up, resting on the land, the cool air caressing my face. I glanced at the clock again, "2:56 AM" I said to myself. I was nearly finished with my shift, It felt weird to me, knowing I was leaving this dump of a job. Serving customers on a daily basis just wasn't me. "Alright, mate. Boss want's a chat before you go.", Michael stood next to me, I tried not to look him directly in the eyes. I always had the suspicion that one day, he was going to pick me up and snap me half. The sheer size of his body gave this away. Michael was thirty-four, had a nice wife, two adorable kids, but he spent most of his time getting drunk. After the divorce, he took a turn for the worst and just lost it. I've honestly never seen a grown man cry as much as him, he finally agreed to try rehabilitation. I stepped into the office, Cal prompting me to close the door. I took a seat on the other side of the table, zipping up my jacket as I did, I still haven't figured out why she likes her office to be this cold. I decided to read the sticky notes that had been placed all over the wall, there wasn't much else I could do, she was talking to somebody over the phone. I was startled by a small thud, my attention quickly turned to the file she had placed before me. I took no hesitation and lay pen to paper. "Are you sure you want to walk home? It's pretty late outside, I wouldn't want anything bad happening to you." She asked. "I guess you could walk me home, If you aren't busy, of course." I replied, a somewhat cheeky smile on my face. I climbed up from the grass, helping her up from the spot we were laying. We stood there for a short moment, our eyes just simply locked. I moved in and gave her a passionate kiss, which she eagerly returned. She looked beautiful, the sunset was shining on her mane, the effect was simply magical. I placed my fore-hoof over her eyes, she quickly gasped with excitement. "I have a surprise for you, keep your eyes closed.", I whispered in her ear. Wrapping my leg around her, I walked her back though the Everfree, toward Ponyville. As we crossed the street, I felt somewhat relieved to have company. Normally, I would just be walking home alone, but tonight was a good night. We had been silent since we left, I was getting mildly flustered by it, so I took it upon myself to break it. "Do y-.", My question was cut to a halt, I stood there puzzled as to why we had stopped. She quickly grabbed my arm and led us down a nearby alleyway. "We're being followed.", She whispered, I looked over my shoulder and saw three men slowly pursuing us. "Alright, you can open your eyes now.". I removed my leg from her body, we were crouched behind a tree, a small clearing could be seen up ahead. "Wha-". I quickly hushed her, simply nodding toward the clearing. She lowered my hoof and looked, nuzzling her head into my mane. After a few seconds, a small light appeared in the clearing, shortly follow by another. They seemed to form a ring of some sort, the creatures chirped as the ring began slowly spinning. They all kept fading between colors, I could tell from the tear on her face, that she was mesmerized by them. The tiny balls of light suddenly broke apart, dashing away in different directions. I sat there, wondering what had caused it. Of all the times I had seen them, they never did this before. It wasn't long before I figured it out, I quickly picked her up from the tree. We turn the corner, walking straight into a dead end. I tried the door by the far east wall, I wasn't surprised to find it locked. I shot around to face the men following us, they came around the corner swiftly. "Look, we don't want any trouble." I said, my voice trembling. I sounded like a prick saying it, my physical condition wasn't the best of them. I was still determined to defend Cal and myself. They stopped, just staring at us, like it was some sort of sick game. I assumed the leader was the one in the middle, my assumptions could probably get me killed, well that's what Cal is always saying to me. His hand moved to his coat pocket, I stood there trembling in fear. I was going to die right here, in an alleyway, what a great day I'm having. We both picked up speed, daring not to look behind us. We were being pursued by timber wolves, two of them to be exact. "Through here.", I quickly led us into a clearing, we stopped in the center. I looked around, not a wolf in sight. My instincts must have gotten the better of me. The forest was silent, all but a few critters could be heard in the distance. "Are you alright?", I asked, checking her for any minor injuries. "Yeah, I'm just a bit shaken up." She said, I gave her a soft kiss on the lips. I could feel her body shaking, I shouldn't have brought her here, it's become too dangerous. Our kiss was interrupted by a deep growling noise, we both froze on the spot, our eyes locked onto each others. I could feel it's breath on my neck. "So, this must be the leader.", I thought to myself, slowly turning around to face the demon, we both met eye to eye. The wolf was massive in size, it was definitely the alpha of the pack. I could hear rustling behind me, there was no way out of this now. I was going to have to fight for our lives. The big guy in the middle stepped forward, his hand still in his pocket. He slowly pulled something out, it shined almost like a knife. "Oh god, we're going to get stabbed.", I thought. My thoughts were correct, he pulled out a very shiny knife, my brain began thinking of all possible exits. Cal nudged me, breaking my trail of thought. "Go.", She whispered. Cal lunged forward and tackled him to the ground, the others took naturally to protect their leader. I stood there in shock as she grabbed the knife and slashed one of the attackers. They wouldn't let up on her, repeatedly kicking her in the ribs. "Get the fuck out of here!", She screamed. This time, I took no hesitation and ran for my life. I wanted to help her, but it would be a wasted effort. Cal just gave up her life to save me, a worthless cunt with nothing to live for. Maybe I was wrong though, I should probably stop making assumptions and get home. The wolf growled as a hit it right in the face, I managed to take it down with one punch. Something still didn't feel right, I ran over to the two wolves surrounding her, tackling one of them to the ground. I knocked it out with a swift blow to the head, quickly turning my attention to the final wolf, it had her pinned down to the floor. I was forced off the wolf with a heavy attack to my head, I lay there, my eyes becoming heavy. I could feel something warm trickling down my face, my eyes closed. "Cal!", I tried calling to her. *** I awoke in the darkness, a cold sweat on my face. Glancing at the clock I could see the time said "4:46 AM", "I wonder what woke me up". I thought to myself. Grabbing my laptop, I decided to update my diary. Log #36 - My dreams are getting worse, I keep seeing that place. I have convinced myself over and over that such a place does not exist, but I get the strangest feeling I've been there my whole life. What if when I sleep, it's not a dream... What if i'm waking up... I stopped, thinking about what I had just wrote. Pondering on life was making me rather hungry, I placed the laptop back down on the floor. I shot up out of bed and began flicking through my drawings. I had drew a lot of the creatures I saw in my dreams. I paused at the purple unicorn, I know that I've seen it before. I grabbed my laptop once again and opened up the search engine. I typed in "Twilight Sparkle", and hit the enter. To my surprise, only one search came up. "Miss Sparkle's Book Store?" I thought, stroking the hair on my chin. I closed the laptop and placed it on the floor, getting back into bed I began thinking again, maybe this Twilight Sparkle person knew the answers. Within moments I was asleep, the writer lay pen to paper and the dream began. Chapter Two I was beginning to think she wasn't going to turn up, Cal wasn't the type of person who would miss out on such an opportunity. There was just me and two others standing on the platform, the next train was due in six minutes, I could hear them discussing what a wonderful night they had. I glanced down at my watch, "2:47 AM," I said to myself, giving it a few taps. I guess it's probably broken, I wasn't surprised either, considering the fact I bought it from a second hand store. I heard her footsteps drawing closer, "Right on time," I said, looking at the schedule. As I glanced up from tinkering with my watch, I was momentarily puzzled by what I saw. There was nobody coming towards me, yet I could still here the footsteps drawing closer. The seemed to come to an immediate halt directly in front of me. The sudden blast of wind from the tunnel ahead meant that the train was arriving, I quickly shook off what had just happened, it was probably my mind playing tricks on me again. I remained seated until it came to a stop, something caught my eye as I made my way to the doors. "Where did those people go?" I thought to myself. The warning alarm echoed through the subway station...
