//------------------------------// // Chapter 6 // Story: My Little Warriors: Fallen Stars // by Truzzle //------------------------------// Chapter 6 Sunlight broke through the trees' branches and danced on the ground as Icefur followed her mentor Badgerfang through the forest. The surprise attack from ValleyClan was a few days ago. Over this time the six friends had discovered the tastiness of fresh-kill and Duskshine had asked Lionstar a question that was thought of by Rainpelt: why did Lionstar allow the six newcomers to the Clan when the fresh-kill pile was so small? Lionstar's answer had been hesitant, and he demanded that only he, the six newcomers, Badgerfang, and Nightleaf knew of his answer; that he believes the six would fulfill the prophecy that Nightleaf had recently encountered. Badgerfang led Icefur into a small, flat, sandy clearing. "Now then," he meowed, turning to Icefur. "Tell me exactly everything that I have taught you this past moon." "You really expected me to remember all that?!" gasped Icefur. She didn't think she had memorized any of it. "Of course I expected you to remember it!" snapped Badgerfang. "Any other cat would have wanted you to! Besides, I didn't teach you much. Training takes time." When Icefur didn't reply, Badgerfang sighed. "I taught you how to hunt, and I taught you some fighting moves," he growled. "Oh, yes," mewed Icefur, hiding her embarrassment. "I remember now. Here, uh... I'll show you that I know how to hunt." Icefur quickly opened her mouth and tasted the air. She caught a strong scent of mouse nearby, to her right just outside of the clearing. Icefur then crouched, but not so low that her belly rubbed the ground. Her tail curled up to keep it from getting dirty, she slowly crawled towards the mouse. However, after taking a few steps, the mouse saw her and ran. Frustrated, Icefur chased it. She ran over tree roots, pine cones, acorns, and under bushes in her chase. Eventually she stopped for breath. With annoyance and reluctance, she gave up chasing the mouse, and turned around. She had only gone a few fox-lengths from the sandy clearing. While Badgerfang scented the air, she slowly padded towards the clearing. Suddenly, she heard a twig crack near her, and stopped. Glancing at Badgerfang, she realized that he seemed to take no notice as he continued to scent the air. Whipping around, Icefur hissed at what she found to be a rabbit, which darted off upon seeing her. Furious and embarrassed, she once again began to chase her newly found prey. This time, she felt as if she could run forever, and the only thing that mattered was that she catch this and prove herself worthy of being a warrior or any Clan cat. She chased the rabbit over tree roots and bushes until they broke the tree line. Quick as lightning, she heard a yowl as she was knocked over onto her side. Gasping for breath, Icefur looked up into her attacker's eyes, where she found what must have been a prince from Canterlot. There, atop her, stood a sleek, pale gold tom with shining sky blue eyes with a white belly and chest along with a white muzzle. He was gazing at her with surprise, and anger. The tom quickly got off her and let Icefur up. "Sorry about that," meowed the tom as her nudged her back onto her side of the border. "Whatever did you do that for?" questioned Icefur, attempting to remove a twig from her tail fur. "You were on the wrong side of the border," mumbled the tom. He didn't seem very happy with being questioned about something like that. "You'd best get going, or else." "Hmph," Icefur hissed. "Don't get me dirty next time." With that, she padded away. She knew she shouldn't have crossed the border, but she didn't cross it very much. Within moments Badgerfang ran to her. "Where were you?!" hissed Badgerfang, glaring at Icefur. "I," Icefur started. "Was chasing a rabbit, and then I was knocked over by a gold and white tom. He side I was on the wrong side of the border, and he got my tail dirty!" Icefur lifted her tail and pointed to a small patch of knotted fur where the twig had been.. "We'd better get you back to camp, crossing the border like that," growled Badgerfang. He then turned and stalked away. The only thing Icefur thought to do then was to follow him.
