//------------------------------// // Chapter 3 // Story: The Feast of the Unicorn and the Pink Pony // by TheBrownUnicorn //------------------------------// The rainbow pegasus, whose name, if I’m not mistaken, was Rainbow Dash, descended towards the ground, really slow, as if to threaten me or try to make me run. If she was planning to make me feel scared, it worked. I was so scared that I couldn’t even move, and the yellow pegasus in front of me was also scared, trembling. Only a miracle could save us right now… And surprisingly, a miracle did end up happening. A white unicorn, with a purple mane, appeared right in front of us, and threw some sort of spell, which made the pegasus apparently fall to the floor, unconscious, or so I thought, because she began snoring. To say the truth, her snore resembled the sound an Ursa Minor would make. I didn’t even know that there was such thing as a sleep spell. I thought they were forbidden since they were really easy spells, which gave the user a great advantage. “Oh, I threw the spell too strong,” said the unicorn. She had a really elegant voice. If I remember correctly, Madam Le Flour talked about somepony copying her style, this must be the pony she was talking about, I realized. “Excuse me, Miss.” I said, trying to be as polite as I could be, despite the fact that I was still scared. “But may I ask your name?” “Oh, mine?” she asked, turning towards me, a bit surprised. “I’m Rarity, owner of Carousel Boutique. However, I have no time for introductions at the moment. I need to bring Rainbow here to my house so you two can be safe.” “Wait a minute, Rarity,” muttered the yellow pegasus. Surprisingly, the unicorn heard her. “How did you know that we were in trouble?” “Well…” The unicorn named Rarity just turned towards the yellow pegasus, but did not look at her. “You could say I told her where Pinkie was, and Rainbow Dash just decided to fly after I told her that. I supposed that she was going to try finding her. By the way, are you the unicorn who was with Pinkie? Cobalt, right?” she asked me. “Umm…” I believe I was blushing in that moment, but I’m not sure. “Yes? I’m extremely sorry about what I might have caused with me being with Pinkamena… though I’m still wondering, what did you all do to her?” I decided to ask that, since two of her friends were present. Well, they were actually three, but one of them was sleeping. “Well, you saw how I acted when I came back here earlier,” said Rarity, with a sad look on her face. Well, she does have a point, I thought. “I think what he means, Rarity, is if we did something bad to Pinkie, for her to be this way,” said the pegasus. “I don’t believe any of us did something like that. Don’t you know why is she acting like this?” “Well… no, I don’t know. But she mentioned something about you not coming to her parties anymore, and then you leaving her.” The two mares looked at me, confused. “What? Is something wrong?” “Well, it’s just that we didn’t do any of those things…” said Rarity. “Unless you’re talking about today. We were going to make a surprise party for her, but she wanted us to come to her pet’s party, so we had to decline.” I found this quite difficult to believe, to say the truth. “Pinkamena doesn’t want to talk to any of you today anyways.” The two mares lowered their heads. “But maybe tomorrow you’ll be able to talk to her?” The two girls’ smiles appeared on their faces. It made me felt a bit guilty because I didn’t want to tell them the whole story. “Well, I must take my leave then,” said Rarity. “Fluttershy, what were you doing here? Did you decide to come and attack Rainbow Dash as well?” The mare that I believe was Fluttershy was surprised that she pointed this out. I wanted to point it out as well, but I thought that she was just visiting. “Oh no, I was just… doing something around here…” Rarity raised an eyebrow. It seemed like she wasn’t buying it, however, I did believe her, somehow. I then remembered I had to be with Pinkamena, because she will not be happy to know that I was not there. “I’m sorry, I need to enter. Excuse me.” And with that, I entered, closing the door behind me. And it was then when I noticed Fluttershy was nervous. “Fluttershy,” I said, with the calmest of voices possible. “I can understand that you might or might not be following Pinkamena because you know that it’s the best if you know she’s okay, but you heard the unicorn, she doesn’t want to see us until tomorrow.” I picked up Rainbow Dash, she was actually pretty heavy. “Well, without Rainbow Dash here, I’m sure I’ll be able to leave now.” She yawned, showing that she was actually really tired of being there. “I’ll just return home. I’m sure Pinkie will be okay.” And with that, she lifted off. I walked towards my home, carrying Rainbow Dash. I had decided to think about what happened today. If I’m not mistaken, I began, so far Pinkie thinks that we left her because we declined to go to one of her parties. And now she feels alone and she accepted this guy as his companion while she is sad. That seemed to be it, or at least, what I understood. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have an opportunity to talk to her, if she is home by tomorrow, that is… When I entered the living room, I could not see Pinkamena at all. “Cobalt! Where are you?” I heard, from another room. And just as I heard that, I saw Pinkamena entering the room I was currently in. “Oh, there you are!” she said enthusiastically. “Where were you? I thought you had already went home, and left me here with all the dinner.” “I had to take care of some things.” I answered. “It seems your friends want to talk to you tomorrow,” I added. Pinkamena didn’t look surprised in the slightest, she just kept looking happy. “It’s alright, it’s not like I will be here tomorrow,” she said, walking towards the kitchen. “By the way, dinner is ready, including the drinks.” I supposed she would say something like that. “Are you coming, or do you have to go right now?” I shook my head. “No, I have plenty of time left to go to my house, besides, there’s free food.” I smiled, and Pinkie giggled, then we both got to the dining room. It was a small room, which was actually the kitchen, but with a table and two chairs in the middle of it. There were two plates served each one with a slice of a cake that was in the middle of the table, and two glasses of lemonade. It didn’t look like a fancy, elegant dinner, which was actually pretty good. If I could put it in words, I guess I’d call it a simple dinner, with a friend. We began eating, after sitting on the chairs. “So, Cobalt, how did it go with my ex friends?” she asked, after swallowing one piece of cake. “Well…” I thought of telling her about that Rainbow Dash, or about the surprise party that they were going to make for Pinkamena, however, I felt it was not necessary anyways, since Pinkamena was not going to be home. “It was a bit awkward, but I guess it was okay.” “Did they talk badly about me?” I raised an eyebrow; she seemed to be asking this in the most serious way possible. “Did they?” “They actually didn’t say anything about you. I think they were pretty worried.” I explained. Pinkamena didn’t seem to believe this, so I tried changing subject. “But let’s not talk about them now, okay? Let’s just eat and talk about ourselves a bit, now that we have some privacy and calm over here.” Pinkamena sighed. “I was born in a rock farm,” she began. As far as I knew, rocks couldn’t be harvested, but I suppose you can collect rocks to send it to ponies who need them, however, the concept of a rock farm was still really weird. “I was the black sheep of my family, or, more specifically, the pink sheep.” “I hear you.” Pinkamena stared at me. “I mean, not the pink one but…” Pinkamena began giggling. “Hey! Don’t laugh at me! I was trying to explain that!” “I’m sorry, I imagined you with a pink mane, like mine,” she laughed. “Or a sheep, a pink sheep.” I smiled awkwardly, and waited until she stopped giggling. “Okay, what were you saying?” “I was saying that I felt like the black sheep of my family. Everyone is so polite and sociable, and while I try to be as polite as possible, and I think I’ve succeeded at least to be accepted by my family, they still think I’m not as sociable as them, and that I should try to socialize with other ponies.” “Well, you’ve talked to me, I guess that’s a start,” she commented. “But I wasn’t talking about something like that, or at least, not in the beginning.” Okay, this was interesting, so I stopped eating to listen to her. I didn’t eat much of the cake anyways. “In the beginning, I was just as gloomy as my sisters and my parents, however, one of those days, I saw a rainbow. It was the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, and I had to share that feeling with the rest of my family, and that’s when the problems began happening.” “Problems? What happened exactly?” “I prepared my first party; my family seemed to like it. We had fun, we had our distractions… but perhaps, too much distractions…” Pinkamena ate some of her cake before continuing. “My family liked the parties I made, and that made them happy, however, it made me feel busy and stressed. Way too busy to help at the farm, and way too stressed to actually try to do some work. Eventually, my family ended up getting so little money that they had to send one of us to get a job so the rest of the family can live decently… since I was the only one that did not work on the farm, because of preparing party after party, I was the chosen one.” “Wow, so you were kicked out of your house without any kind of job, or any kind of safety that made you feel at least sure about what you were doing?” She nodded, and I felt really bad again. I got up and got close to her. “Hey, at least you’re not alone anymore…” I was planning to hug her, but she just pushed me. “Not now, but…” she mumbled. “Before… when I was living a lie, with my ‘friends’…” “Pinkamena… I just want you to know that-“ She put a hoof over my mouth. “Don’t talk, just promise me that you’ll never leave me, no matter what… that’s all I need right now, a promise. If you can keep it or not, I don’t care at the moment. I just want to be sure that somepony is actually my friend, at least for a moment.” She then moved her hoof away from my mouth. “I won’t promise. I will assure you that, if I ever lose you as a friend, I will try to get your friendship back, in any way I know.” That was a bit funny, since I have never got to the point of doing that for a friend, because I hardly made durable relationships with anypony. “If you ever need me, I’ll be there for you.” It was then when I suddenly felt somepony hugging me. It was obviously Pinkamena. I put my arms around her, to hug her as well, and I felt a warm feeling in my heart, yet again. When we finally let the other go, Pinkamena just looked to my eyes and then went to her chair again, to continue eating. We didn’t really say anything until we were done with our slices of cake. I must say that this was the dinner were I ate less, but on the other hoof, I actually accomplished something positive, so I can’t really say something bad about this. Once we were both done, we got up, and then I walked towards the door. “Well, Pinkamena, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” I asked, turning to her. She nodded, smiling. “I will take my leave then. It was a nice dinner.” “Remember it was only a Thank You Dinner, nothing else!” What she said was, somehow, reassuring. Once I was outside, I noticed that the yellow pegasus was already gone, which was good, since I had forgotten she was waiting for that lemonade. I decided to walk towards my home, or at least, where I think my home was. It was a small house, located close to the Central Square of Ponyville. When I got there, I noticed that the house had a sign, which was engraved in something that looked like gold, but I’m sure it wasn’t gold. The engraving just said “Thunder”, so I suppose it was my new home. I tried opening it, and, obviously, it was closed. My uncle said that, until he gets the keys of the house, he’ll let me use a lock pick spell on the door, so he taught me one. I performed the spell, and it worked correctly. To say the truth, it wasn’t a hard spell. Upon entering, I noticed it didn’t have much. From where I was, I could see that the kitchen just had a fridge and a stove, and when I walked upstairs, there was just the bathroom, and a room with a bed. I supposed this was going to be my new room. After exploring the house a bit more, I ended up finding a notebook, and a pencil. When I opened the notebook, I noticed that this was my uncle’s journal, which didn’t really have much, just information about the places he has been visiting. I decided to tear some pages, and use one of the last ones, to write about what happened today, in case I needed to remember it, some day. “Today I began writing this Journal, without any apparent reason. This is my first day staying in Ponyville, and so far, it has been great. This day, I met one of the weirdest, and yet friendliest of ponies. Her name is Pinkamena Diane Pie, but some of her friends call her Pinkie, if I’m not mistaken. It’s funny to think that, when I met her, she was to me just a weird pony, who talked to inanimate objects, however, even I talked to those objects as well, so I have no right to say that such thing is bad, because it would also affect me. I learnt today that those inanimate objects were just a way for her to talk to something, and think that she had friends. Even if this was somehow funny, I couldn’t help but find it sad and really worrying. With the time, I ended up knowing that she had broken her friendship with her now ex-friends, and it was one of the best decisions of her life, considering I had the honor to meet one of them, whose name was Rainbow Dash, who also destroyed her inanimate objects. Even if this helped her realize that she was living in the real world, I couldn’t help but feel empathy for her, in some sort of way. At the end of the day, all I could think about was that I did a good job at trying to act like a friend; in fact, I believe I am now her only friend, who she trusts the most, and that, somehow, makes me happy. I also got free food, even if that’s not really important, but it is good as well, since there was nothing on the fridge, as far as I know. With this, I end this Journal entry, hoping that tomorrow starts another day. ~Cobalt.” I let out a yawn. I had written a lot, but reading it somehow made me happy. It was getting late, so I really had to sleep anyways. I closed my new journal, and placed it under the bed, before turning off the lights, lying on my new bed, and finally, closing my eyes so I could sleep peacefully. It has been an hour, and Rainbow Dash has yet to wake up. She is lying on my bed, and she is still sleeping. I’ve been thinking about what has happened with Pinkie, and so far I just came to the conclusion that she doesn’t want to be our friend anymore. I can see why Rainbow Dash was so angry with her, and was possibly about to break in, and possibly slap Pinkie into reality, even though that would possibly not help at all. She was scared, like the rest of us. Scared to lose her friend, scared to lose her forever, and not being able to talk to her again. I know how their relationship is, and it is a strange relationship, but it somehow works out. It is getting late, and I should probably sleep, however, since Rainbow Dash is using my bed, I will have to sleep in the couch, or wake her up. I decide to poke her, to see if she is going to wake up soon, and, surprisingly, she does wake up. She sits on the bed, her eyes pretty tired, and looks at me. “Rarity, what happened?” she wondered, yawning. I decide to tell Rainbow the truth, partially. “I believe that Pinkie is having a bad day, but has accepted to talk to us tomorrow, that is, if you don’t visit her to do whatever you want to do with her.” Rainbow just glares at me, with tiredness and annoyance on her eyes. “What’s wrong? Did you want to talk to her?” “It’s just that… well, Pinkie is acting extremely weird, and I could just go and tell her about what she is doing wrong, and she’ll possibly understand. I’m just trying to do the right thing here. She can’t get all mad with us just because she found a new friend, and that she is having a bad day.” If I knew Rainbow correctly, this was hurting her more than it seemed. “In fact, I think it doesn’t even make sense. If she met somepony else, she would at least introduce him to us, even though he won’t get to be a real part of our group.” “Maybe she is trying to keep him away from us for some reason.” “But what will that achieve in the end?” There was silence after that. Both me and Rainbow Dash were trying to think an answer for that question. “It seems you don’t know either… well, you said that we will talk to her tomorrow, didn’t you?” I nodded. “Well then, I suppose that we will know tomorrow…” “Yes, I sure hope so.” Rainbow Dash began walking towards the main door, and I followed her. As she was about to leap and fly towards her home, she suddenly stopped, and turned to me. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “I just wanted you to know that what happened when you were crying was a mistake from my part, and that it shouldn’t be taken seriously, understood?” Oh right, that. “Of course, I know it was a mistake because I was the one who touched your soft mane, remember?” Rainbow Dash blushed, but looked towards the sky. “I was just joking. You just go and sleep well, okay?” “Will do. Thanks, Rarity.” And with that, Rainbow flew into the air, leaving a small trail of rainbow in front of my door. After closing my door, I headed to my room. Tomorrow was going to be an important day, however, I really did not know if it was going to end up well or badly. I will have to accept whatever happens tomorrow, since it’s going to be Pinkie’s decision. After that, I lied on my bed, and covered myself with my blankets, falling asleep afterwards.
