//------------------------------// // Chapter One // Story: Bridge to Terabithia: A Pony's Tale // by muffingirl349 //------------------------------// Rainbow Dash watched her dad fly to work."Finally." She muttered to herself. She crept out of the room, careful not to wake her younger brother and sister, quietly came down the stairs, and walked out of the house. Without a second thought, the pegasus spread her wings, and flew. Based on the Movie She flew fast and hard. The books always said, 'Practice makes perfect', right? I have to be perfect. A Crossover fanfic It was raining. She was soaked but.... the wind in her mane! The freedom! Gotta go back, she thought. But I don't wanna! Bridge to Terabithia Rainbow Dash ran up the steps of her house. She quickly took off her jacket, and dropped it on the porch. She walked inside. "And just where have you been?" her mother, Wind Wisher shouted from the kitchen. Rainbow cringed, but continued into the dining room. Sitting at the table were her twin older sisters, her younger sister, and baby brother. "What took you so long?" Snickered one of the twins, Dew Drop. Rainbow Dash stared or the plaid tablecloth, ignoring them. "I don't think she's a freak!" All eyes turned to Scootaloo, the second youngest. She blushed. "R-right, Dash?" She squeaked. "Sure, Scoots, sure." muttered the cyan pegasus. "Dashie! Dashie!!" giggled the baby colt, Storm Chaser. He splashed his little hooves in the mushy greens of his breakfast. Wind Wisher walked in from the kitchen. "Dew!" she scolded. " I told you to clean up Storm's mess!" The yellow pegasus crossed her forelegs. "It's not my turn! It's Sunny's!" The light blue pegasus shook her head. "No way! I cleaned up that colts mess last time!" The twins continued to fight, and Wind went over to clean up the little grey colt. Just then, there was the sound of a door opening, and a tall chestnut stallion walked in. He flapped his wings to shake off the water. It was Iron Feathers, or their father. He looked at the twins arguing, and sighed. Then he looked at Rainbow. Their eyes met for a moment, but he looked away, walking over to Wind Wisher. "Hey," she muttered before quickly pecking him on the lips. Scootaloo rolled her eyes in disgust. The little filly circled the table, scooping up plates and stacking them in a pile on her back. She wobbled her way into the kitchen. Suddenly, something clicked in Rainbow's head. She ran out to the porch. It wasn't there! She ran back inside and shouted, "Mom, where's my jacket?" The white mare dropped the towel she was holding in her mouth and sighed. "I threw it out." She called back. The cyan pegasus bit back a scream. Wind Wisher noticed the expression on her face. "C'mon, Dash!" she said. "You couldn't even tell what it was anymore!"she pointed at something behind Rainbow. "Use Sunny's old one." The mare turned around and saw the brightest orange jacket she'd ever seen. Her mouth dropped open. "B-but I, it's," she looked at her dad for backup. He sighed. "She needs a new jacket, Wind." The white mare lead him into the kitchen to talk. Rainbow knew what they were talking about. Money, something the family didn't have. Creak! Creak! Creeeeaaaak! Rainbow Dash spat the wrench out of her mouth. Glaring at the pipe, she whispered, "Stupid piece of junk." The cyan mare turned around and bucked the pipe. At impact, the pipe sprayed water all over, yet again soaking her. BEEP BEEP!! Her ears perked up. Rainbow glanced out the grimy windows, and saw something yellow sitting on the side of the road. "The bus" she gasped. Reaching out a hoof, Rainbow flicked on the sprinkler system, grabbed her backpack in her mouth, and flew out of the greenhouse as fast as she could go. "That's three times this week, Dash," the bus driver told her as she climbed on. "You're cuttin' it real close." Rainbow nodded, and worked her way to an empty seat. In the back, the goody-good bully Trixie Lulamoon, and her two friends Gilda and Rarity, were tossing a little filly's lunchbox back and forth while the filly tried to catch it. "Give it back!" she cried. "It's got mah daisy san'wich in i'!" Rainbow rolled her eyes and sat down, but just as she was about to, SPLAT! Half of a daisy sandwich landed on her back. "Bull's-eye!" shouted Gilda, pumping a fist into the air. "What's wrong, farmgirl?" said Trixie mockingly. "Got a little something on your back?" "What a loser!" giggled Rarity. Rainbow peeled the sandwich off of her jacket, and threw it back at them. I'm the loser? she thought to herself. No, I don't think so. She slumped into her seat and stared out the window. Finally arriving at the school, Raindbow Dash ran to her locker. Grabbing her things, she went straight to her classroom. The pegasus sat down at her desk, right next to her Dumb Bell, and behind her, Hoops. Great, she thought. Just great. "Beep, beep beep beep beep BEEP!" The teacher, Mrs. Bon Bon, spun around. The brown colt had fallen back into his seat, but her eyes had already settled on somepony. "Miss Rainbow Dash!" she called fiercly. "I expect better behavior from a young mare!" She abruptly turned around and continued to read a math equation on the chalk board. "So," whispered Hoops, leaning forward again. "What's with the jacket? Trying to signal an alien invsion?" Rainbow shifted uncomfortably in the bright orange fabric. He leaned back for a little while. Coming back again, he whispered, "Ready for the race, Rainbow CRASH?" When she didn't answer, Dumb Bell elbowed her side. "He's talkin' to ya." Just then, the classroom door opened, and Princaple MacIntosh stepped in. "Howdy, class!" he said. "Howdy." they droned back. "Ah've got a new student here for y'all; Pinkie Pie." A pink mare walked in and stood beside him. Her mane was fluffy, poofy might have been a better word, a darker pink than her coat. It almost looked like cotten candy. She wore a grey hat embedded with colorful jewels, and little beads and trinkets dangled from her backpack. Her big, bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement. She looks fun, thought Rainbow. "Make her feel welcome now, ya here?!" MacIntosh called as he walked out. "Well, miss Pinkie," said Mrs. Bon Bon sweetly. "I don't have any extra desks, so you'll have just have to find room on mine!" The cream colored mare moved aside a few things on her desk and pulled up a chair. "Thanks!" Said Pinkie Pieand began to unzip her backpack. Things like paper, books, pencils, and so on spilled on to the floor. The class laughed. she gave a nervous chuckle before scooping up her belonings in her mouth. Eventually, she was organized, and class continued. Rainbow Dash tried to stay focused. She really did. Yet, her eyes continuously drifted toward the new mare. Stop that!! she metally screamed. When the bell rang for recess, the race immediatly began to form. Hoops, Rainbow, Dumbell, and a few others gathered at the starting line. As they began to stretch, Pinkie Pie walked in line. "Hey, new mare!!" shouted Hoops. "This is for pegasi ONLY!!" "What's wrong, Hoops?" taunted Rainbow. "Afraid to get beat by an earth pony?" Pinkie smirked. All the racers, except her, spread their wings. "Dead meat," growled Dumb Bell. "GO!" shouted a grey mare. They took off at top speed, Rainbow Dash in the lead. "Go, Dash, go!" screamed a voice from the crowd. Rainbow looked, and there was Scootaloo, running as fast as her little legs could carry her. Rainbow let loose a determined smile, and flapped her wings just a bit harder. Then something pink caught her eye. Pinkie Pie, charging at full speed with a smile on her face. Rainbow felt her heart skip a few beats. She flapped harder, but it was no use. Pinkie inched ahead of her, crossing the finish line. Silence rang over the yard. The rest of the racers finally crossed as well, panting heavily. Rainbow landed, and collapsed onto the ground breathless. "Dash! Dash!" called Scootaloo. She ran to her sister's side. "Did ya win?" The cyan mare shook her head. "Hey!" said a voice. The two looked up to see Pinkie Pie. She extended a hoof. "Rainbow Dash, right? Nice race!" Rainbow gazed at it with no emotion. Finally she got to her hooves, exchanged a glance the filly, and she and Scootaloo walked a way without a word, leaving the pink mare standing with a confused expression. The bus was the same as usual; roudy, loud, and yellow. Rainbow and Scootaloo climbed on and walked to an empty seat. "I can't believe it!" muttered the older mare. "Beat by an earth pony!" Scootaloo patted her back. "Don't worry!" she said. "You still beat everypony else's flank!" Rainbow smiled and rustled the filly's mane. "Yeah, I guess so." She leaned back and watched out the window. After a while, the bus stopped at their house, and the two climbed off. Thank Celestia! Rainbow thought as they walked down the drive. Just as soon as it started, the bus lurched to a stop. Rainbow spun around and watched the doors open. A bright pink pony climbed off and called, "Thanks!". Pinkie Pie walked over to the two sisters. Rainbow raised an eyebrow. Pinkie raised her own. "Are you following me?" The pink mare giggled. "No, silly!" She pointed a hoof at the trees. "I live over there." The cyan pegasus glanced over, and made out the shape of a big white house in the branches. "Oh." The three walked in silence. Pinkie began to skip down a gravel driveway to the left. "See ya!" She shouted with a wave. Rainbow gave a small wave back. "See ya." She mumbled as her and Scootaloo continued home.
