//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 // Story: Of Fire and Rainbows // by Dawnshy //------------------------------// Of Fires and Rainbows by: DawnShy Rainbow Dash x Spitfire "Again," yelled Spitfire. Everypony seemed to be tired expect for Rainbow Dash, who did not seem to be phased by the training. The Wonderbolts recruits all pulled their heads up again and they were off. Rainbow Dash lead the team of tired recruits down the track and when she finish, she turned her head to see that she was the only one to finish. "Really, Rainbow Dash is the only one to finish," Spitfire flew next to Rainbow Dash," and the last one standing." Rainbow Dash felt her ego being boosted when Spitfire spoke and blushed a little at the comment. Spitfire turned to Rainbow Dash with her full attention and said, "You impressed me yet again Rainbow Dash." "Thanks for the complements, Spitfire. Uh, I, uh, thanks," Rainbow Dash stumbled out. Spitfire looked at Rainbow Dash and cracked a smile, "See you tomorrow, I think you may be the only one to pass the test." With that, Spitfire speed off leaving Rainbow Dash behind on the track. Everypony seem to have gotten up and left during the conversation with Spitfire. Her idol had told her how awesome she was and how she thought Rainbow Dash would be the only one to pass. After Rainbow Dash finished her training, she had gone back to her room and collapsed on the bed. Her room was rather small and only big enough for 2 beds. The window contained their only light source. "What a long day, I am so glad tomorrow is the last day of training." Rainbow Dash pulled her head up from the pillow to look at her roommate, and wing partner, Blueberry Cloud. "Same here, I hope I will make it," Blueberry rolled on to her back and stared out the window. "Spitfire seems to like you. Come to think about it, she seems to stare at you more than anypony else on the training ground," She winked at Rainbow Dash and giggled. Rainbow Dash's face heated up as she tried to hide it. "She was not, she was just checking out my awesome." Blueberry rolled her eyes and with a quick responses said, "Yeah, checking out your 'awesome'. More like, checking out your plot." Blueberry went into a giggle fit and tears began to form around her eyes. She let out a 'yelp' as Rainbow Dash flew over, rolled her over, and stared right in to Blueberry's eyes. "She was so not checking me out Blueberry, she was making sure I would land safely," Rainbow Dash shouted. Rainbow Dash flew back to her bed and covered herself with the blanket. "We are not having the discussion. Good night and good luck tomorrow." Blueberry rolled back on to her stomach and whispered, "In the time I have seen you two together, and I think you and Spitfire would make a cute couple." She then pulled the covers over herself and closed her eyes. "Good night, Rainbow Dash." Rainbow Dash woke up to the sound of bells ringing, which signals for everyone to wake up. She jumped out of bed without remaking the bed and ran to the bath room to take a shower. After about five minutes, she jumped out of the shower and dried herself off. She then smoothed her hair down, walked over to her bed, and picked up her goggles. "I cannot wait to see if I pass the test and become a...Wonderbolts," Rainbow Dash thought to herself. Blueberry walked passed her several times go in and out of the bathroom. "Let’s go Blueberry; I do not want to be late." Blueberry rushed through her morning routine. "Done, let’s go now." Blueberry stood next to Rainbow Dash as they walk out of the room and went outside. Their last day of training was about to begin. "Everypony. Hurry up, we do not have all day," Spitfire yelled. "First test will be the basic test of speed. Everypony, go to the start line." Rainbow Dash stood next to Blueberry at the end of the line. Spitfire yelled, "Get ready...Go." It surprised everypony, everypony but Rainbow Dash. She led the pack of ponies around the track for several laps and stops right after the finish line. "No time to rest, now for trick racing. Remember, do your best tricks while trying to get to the finish." After several moments, Spitfire again yelled, "Get ready...Go." The racers snapped off and went down the track as fast as their bodies would allow them. This time Rainbow Dash did some really advance tricks that may cost her speed, but they looked better than some of the basic tricks the other racers were doing. When all said and done, Rainbow Dash still came out on top. After all the tests were done, Spitfire and Soarin came out with the results. "First, we would like to thank all of you guys for competing and you all put in a great effort," Spitfire announced. Soarin finished for Spitfire, "Ponies that passed, please step forward." At that moment Rainbow Dash looked over and Spitfire to see her staring again. Spitfire jerked her head away hoping that Rainbow Dash would not notice. She then looked back at Rainbow Dash and gave her a slight wink. "The ponies are...Rainbow Dash and...," Soarin started to sweat and finished, "That is all." He flew off to meet up with Fleet Foot. "Try again next time ponies," Spitfire yelled as everypony flew away. "Yes, now let’s get you fitted for a Wonderbolts uniform. Follow me." On their way over to the locker room, Rainbow Dash and Spitfire traded back and forth on different conversation topics. Mostly about what they like to do during their free time. "Why was I the only one to pass the test? The others did well," Rainbow Dash asked as she turned her head towards Spitfire. "They did fine, but they were not the best. Rainbow Dash, I think we could discuss this when we have more time." They landed in front of the locker room and Spitfire continued, "How about over diner sometime?" If Rainbow Dash had food in her belly, she would have thrown up right then and there. She began to shake and Rainbow Dash blushed, hard. "Sure, that sounds great. Maybe tomorrow?" "Sounds great Dash." They walked in and began the fitting. Spitfire decided to do it herself. "Hmm, you are more lean then most of the Pegasus that come through here." Spitfire was clearly hitting on Rainbow Dash. "Thanks," Rainbow Dash could hardly get that out after that comment. Every second Spitfire fitted Rainbow Dash, Rainbow Dash began to shake. "Ok, about done. Hold still for a moment. I have to check your waist." Spitfire noticed that Rainbow Dash was nervous. "All most done?" Rainbow Dash asked. In her mind, she was screaming not to turn herself around and just plant a kiss on her role models lips. Spitfire had finished the fitting and Rainbow Dash left in a hurry and said 'Goodbye'. It was the next day; Rainbow Dash had woken up and fell out of bed. She did not fell like getting up that day for she had just gotten out of training. She tried getting off the floor but her body refused to let her. Then, she heard a knock at the door, which scared her awake. "Who would come at this time of day?" Rainbow Dash wondered not even checking the clock. She landed, opened the door and to her surprise it was Spitfire herself. "Hello, Rainbow Dash. About that dinner, could that be tonight?" Spitfire asked stumbling over each and every word she spoke. Rainbow Dash looked at her and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. "Sure, do you want to go to 'Hay Heaven’? I heard they have great sandwiches." "No, I was thinking more along the lines of 'HerbBarn'." Rainbow dash sprang back in surprise and just had to ask, "Why there? That is the really expensive place in Cantorlot, but it is super nice. I do not think I could afford that." Spitfire was quick on the trigger though, "I invited you to dinner and I was going to pay. I just wanted to spend the evening with you and have fun. I now that being a weather pony does not pay...," She quickly regretted saying that because the look on Rainbow Dashes face said it all. "Is that why you offered paying, because you just want your ego rubbed?" Rainbow Dash flicked out her wings, "Are you just trying to hit on me and then make me feel as though I should be honored to be asked out by you? Somepony who makes more money and has a lot of fame?" Rainbow Dash slammed the door and soon Spitfire talked to the door. "That is not what I meant at all. I just wanted to go on a ...," Again, before she could finish, Rainbow Dash yelled, "Go, I am just going to sit here in my 'poor' house and read my 'not so cool' books." Spitfire felt she had to say something to get her to come out again. "Damn it Dashie that is not what I meant. Now, get out here and talk to me this instant," Spitfire raised her voice at Rainbow Dash and in seconds, Rainbow Dash answered the door. "Ok, if that is not what you meant than why did you say that?" "Thank you now let me finish please." Dash nodded her to let Spitfire no she was ok to finish. "I know that being a weather pony does not pay a lot because I use to be one. I know how rough it can get during parts of the year. Like right now, when the weather does not need that much attention," Spitfire said smiling. Rainbow Dash's upset look turned confused. "You were? How come I never heard of you being a weather pony at one point?" "Well, they did when I first started, most ponies must have forgotten by now because I am in the Wonderbolts." Spitfire started to walk closer to Rainbow Dash. "Why do you want me then? I always thought that you were in to Soarin." Rainbow Dash waved in Spitfire after she opened the door more. She pointed to where the couches were and Spitfire went and sat down on one. She offered Spitfire a glass of water to which she accepted. As Rainbow Dash walked away, Spitfires eyes started to wander. Around the house at first and toke note of all the Wonderbolts apparel she had. Then, her eyes landed on Dash's figure. 'She really is lean,' she thought to herself. Rainbow Dash asked a question but Spitfire did not pay attention. Suddenly, Spitfire was snapped out of her little day dream with a glass of water hitting the table in front of her. "Ok, I will ask again. Why did you pick me when you could have any mare?" Rainbow Dash asked. Suddenly, Rainbow Dash felt her lips being pressed up against Spitfire's. Rainbow Dash felt as though her body was melting. Her body went next to limp, her wings sprung outwards and she started to blush lightly. Spitfire mirrored Dash's body language and her wings lazily flapped. After a moment or two, they broke away and the only thinks Rainbow Dash could say were incoherent sentences. Spitfire blushed and said, "So, I take it you want to go to dinner." Rainbow Dash's voice was cracking but she got out, "Yes." After a moment of silence, Spitfire stood up and headed for the door. "Dashie, your wings are showing," Spitfire said as she walked out the door and closed it behind her. Spitfire waited at the table looking at the clock like it would come to life and try to attack her. She had broken into a small, nervous shake. She was nervous because she thought that maybe Rainbow Dash had back out of the dinner date she had planned. The waiter walked up to her and said, "Is your date here yet? I hope he has a good excuse." "I hope so to, and he is a she," She was shaking because most ponies do not accept mare-mare dating. The waiter looked at her and gave her a look of disgust. "I see. We don't take much kind to you types of ponies around here. I suggest you get out." A noise was heard behind the waiter and within a second the waiter was gone from Spitfires site, leaving only a Rainbow trail. They all heard a window in the back slam shut. Everypony that was sitting at the restaurant looked over at the window to see if anypony would pop back through. To their surprise, Rainbow Dash poked her head back through. She flew in, looked around and sat down at the same table as Spitfire. "What was that all about, Dashie?" "I was behind him when he said that and nopony talks that way towards my date." "What did you do with our waiter?" Spitfire asked. Rainbow Dash replied, "Nothing, he just won't cross us again." From out the window that she forgot to close you could hear him complain about his legs, to which the window was shut right after that. Rainbow sat in her chair wearing a beautiful dress that must have been made by her friend, Rarity, the one that knocked Spitfire out of the air during the young fliers’ competition. It had a tail that matched her mane and had gold sequence between them to separate them. It looked fantastic. Spitfire always like her dresses much simpler that other ponies, just yellow and orange mix. "Did you end up ordering drinks yet? Or was mister flankface refusing?" Rainbow Dash asked. Spitfire was about to answer when the owner walked up, he looked upset. "I am so sorry about him; I guess he did not realize who he was talking to. Dinner is on the house. I guess some people are not use to mare-mare relationships yet. It recently just became acceptable." Spitfire responded with, "I guess that can make up for him. I just wish someponies would just accept it." The owner leaned in a whispered just enough for Spitfire and Rainbow Dash could hear, "I have a coltfriend, but make sure not to tell anyone." Spitfire winked at her and Rainbow Dash said, "Tell them what?" The owner winked and had a waiter come over to attend their table right away. They got special treatment for the rest of their meal. Whatever song they wanted to be played, they got their wish. What kind of drinks they wanted, they got. After both Rainbow Dash and Spitfire were done, they walked out of the "HerbBarn" happy and wanting the night to not end. "This night has been one of the best nights I have had in a while, thanks Spitfire." "No problem, just cannot wait till practice starts up again. I think we will make a great team like we did tonight." "I know we made that restaurant ours for that night." Spitfire leaned in and said, "Thanks for defending me; I do not do well when people act that way." To which Rainbow Dash pressed her lips up against Spitfires. For a couple of brief moments, the world stood still. They did not care who saw them, they felt the great feeling in the world. When they finally broke apart, they look into each other’s eyes and Rainbow Dash said, "I can wait till we start practice either."
