The Chronicles of Viel Vulter

by Viel Vulter

Chapter 1: The Beginning

It's Monday, March 15, 3015, around two in the morning. My mother screams as she gives birth. Unknown to anypony in this room, my birth will be marked down as one of the most important days in all of Equestrian history. Possibly the most important thing to happen in over a thousand years.

"Push Kelly push! It's almost here!", The doctor said.

"It's a girl! It's a beautiful baby girl!", The doctor said with excitement.

There I was, a newborn filly. My mane was a beautiful white with a blue trim, my coat was a bright cyan blue, and my eyes are the softest purple you will ever see.

"She's so beautiful.. What should we name her Ace?", My mother asked.

"I didn't have the filly ,Kelly, you name our beautiful child, you deserve it.", My Daddy said with a chuckle.

"Hmmm... I don't know... wait.. how about Viel?", she asked. "Viel?

"My sisters name?", He asked.

"Yes Ace, your sister was extremely brave, she deserves to be honored like this... after all she did save our lives.", She said with a hopeful look.

"You're right... If it weren't for her we wouldn't be here.. Well then it's decided!", Dad said as he looked closer at me and kissed my head. "Welcome to the family Viel! You are a Vulter now! How does it fee-" He stopped.

His mouth dropped open when he moved my hair. He saw something, something out of place. He turned to yell for the doctor when he saw the bump on my head.

"HEY VICK GET IN HERE NOW!! THERE'S A BUMP ON MY DAUGHTERS HEAD!", My daddy screamed.

Vic, the doctor from earlier, came running into the room to check up on me. He too was concerned when he saw the bump on my head.

"Ace...I don't know how to tell you this... but... That- That isn't a bump.. It's a horn.. Your daughter is a unicorn.", Vick said with sorrow. "Look Ace, you know what the people around here will do to you and your family if anypony finds out.. They will try and kill you.. you have to leave here and soon. Somepony will find out.. this part of Equestia still hates unicorns.. If they find here... they'll kill her."

"NO ONE IS GOING TO LAY A HOOF ON MY LITTLE VIEL!", My mother yelled.

"Vic, how long can you give us? No guessing. How long can you truly give us until we can leave?" My father asked.

"Eight days at max. Any longer and people will start to get suspicious of why you're staying here so long.", Vic said.

"Okay good. That's more than enough time for me to gather our things. Vic do you know of anywhere we could go? Anywhere we could stay?" My father asked.

"I don't know of anywhere off the top of my head Ace, I'll have to look around. I'll make sure to get back to you in a few days.", Vic informed my father.

"OK Vic, please hurry.. I don't want to lose my family again.", My dad said with a stressful voice.

The next few days, according to my father, were hectic. Between trying to hide me and my mother in the hospital, dad trying to pack everything up late at night so nopony would see him, and Vic trying to find us a small house, in a small town, far away from Manehatten. After six days we were finally ready to leave. It was time to pack up and leave.. Forever..

"Okay Ace, I found a small town about two days from here. The route is safe, so you won't have to worry about Timberwolves or bandits attacking you. I also bought the best electro-carriage I could afford, so that y'all can get there a little bit faster. The town I found is called Ponyting. It's a very small farming town, and it's a good way from anywhere that hates unicorns, I personally made sure of that.", Vic informed my dad.

"Thank you Vic. Without you, I don't know what we would have done, or if we'd even be alive still. Without you...", My father teared up.

"Look Ace.. We have been friends since we were fillies. I was there to comfort you after what happen to your family. After the bandit attack and them killing your sister and parents.. I couldn't let you lose another family.. I mean you even almost lost your wife.. If is wasn't for-" dad cut him off, and put his hoof on Vic's shoulder.

Dad said to Vic, "Look Vic.. just thank you.. for everything. I'll make sure to get one of those writing machines to right a letter to you every other week. I love you Vic.. You were always like a brother to me."

Vic and my father hugged and nodded. They both knew that this would be the last time they ever saw each other face to face. Vic walked over to my mom and kissed her cheek.

"Kelly", Vic said, "You are one of the bravest mares I know. It was an honor helping you give birth to your beautiful filly. I will miss you and Ace both, and please Kelly... Be safe." Vic looked down at me. I was in a deep sleep in my filly carriage wrapped around my mothers neck. "Viel.. It's such a beautiful name..", He said with teary eyes, " Watch after your parents for me, make sure you keep them nice and safe now ya hear?" , Vic said as he teared up some more.

He turned to my dad and hugged him one last time before we got into the carriage. Dad started it up, and we just left, never to look back again. Dad told me that he waved at Vic as he shrunk in the distance, tears filling up his eyes.

Six years pass, and we are living a pretty normal life. I remember walking out and seeing my father working on the farm. His bright orange coat shinning in the sun, his black mane waving in the wind, and his brown eyes shimmering. These features made him strong. He looked hardy and tough, almost invincible. My mother is just as tough as my dad. She decided to become a nurse in the local hospital.. She always loved helping other ponies. Her snow white coat, beautiful purple eyes, and blue mane, just seemed so... comforting. Her voice is very soft too. She would always sing me this song she learned as a filly. I think the name of it was Hush Now, Quiet Now, or something like that. Despite being really good at their new careers, their cutie marks made it difficult to change their life style. My dad went from doing weather control, which is how he got his cloud cutie mark he is actually one of the best weather control leaders in all Equestria, to being a simple farming pony who hardly ever has a use for his wings. My mom went from being an officer and protecting innocent ponies to being inside a building all day and helping those in need. She doesn't complain as much as my dad though, she is still helping other ponies, which is what she loves to do. My dad said he would have done cloud control, but being such a small town they don't need a lot of ponies doing cloud control. He told me that they already have twenty other ponies doing on the job.

About a year later I experienced my first taste of hate in the world. Another filly had started making fun of me because of my horn, and that it was "my kinds" fault that many ponies died a long time ago. After she insulted me more and more I finally started crying and ran out of the school. I went straight home past my dad, up my room, and shut my door. About 3 minutes later my dad came up to my room, he walked over to my bed, sat down next to it, and waited for me to look at him. I eventually lifted my head to meet his gaze, and what I saw was surprising! My dad was crying! The strong colt that I know was crying!

I asked him, "Wuts wong daddy?"

He looked at me and said, "You got hurt Viel, and your crying. When ever my little filly gets hurt.. I get hurt too. I love you so much Viel and seeing you in any type of pain is torture to me."

After saying that he quickly hugged me and held me tightly. I wrapped my hooves around him and hugged him back, this mushy gushy moment lasted for about ten minutes, until there was an knock on the door.

My dad looked at me and asked, "Are you going to be Okay Viel?"

I said to him, "Yes daddy... I wuv you so much!"

"I love you too Viel." My dad said and he kissed my forehead.

It turns out the knock on the door was my school teacher. She had found out about the girl insulting me and calling me rude names. She came to apologize to my family and say she had no idea that it was going on. She had informed us that the little filly that had bullied me came from a unicorn hating family, and that her family was killed on the road by Timber-wolves. She now lives with her grandparents here in ponyting. The teacher said that she will talk to the little filly tomorrow at school.

Two years later I learn about The Waste, a dark and terrible place. A place where nopony should ever step hoof in. A place filled with so much evil, that it corrupt even the most kind pony into an evil monster. The teacher didn't really go into deep detail with it, but it sparked my interest. When I got home I saw my dad reading a book in the living room.

I walked up to him, curled up next to him, and asked him, "Daddy, what's The Waste?"

His eyes widened and he almost dropped his book out of surprise. He turned and looked at me, and he had the most shocked look on his face.

"Viel... Where did you hear that name?" He asked with major concern.

"At school today, Mrs. Cherry told us about it.", I said with a little smile/frown.

"What did she tell you?", He asked, his voice getting more stressed.

"Not a lot, just that it's a really evil place; with monsters and goblins and all sorts of mean things, but she didn't tell us how that happened, or where it came from...and... I was wondering... if... you could tell me?", I said with a big smile.

"I'm sorry Viel.. but I can't tell you about it, at least not now, maybe when you are older we can talk about it", He said with his stern voice.

I knew that he wasn't going to tell me, at least not now not anyways. I couldn't sleep much that night. I don't know what it was, but... I kept thinking about The Waste. I felt like I had something to do with it, which was ridiculous. I mean I'm just a nine year old pony laying down in my bed, in a small little pony town. What importance could I ever possibly have? I know what you're thinking "Why and how is a nine year old having these thoughts?". Honestly I don't know why, but I couldn't shake the thought out of my head. Eventually, I fell asleep. My last thoughts were "Hmph I'm such a silly filly, I'll never have a big role in anything." How I wish that this remained true, that nothing bad ever happened. That I just grew up a silly pony in a small little pony town, but I was so very wrong. I had no idea what lies ahead, and even if I did there was no way I could prepare for it. Why did this have to happen to me.

I was about fifteen when I saw him. An orange colored pony, with a cyan mane and cute little light blue stripes, and ocean blue eyes, but that wasn't important.. the cool thing was.... HE WAS A UNICORN!!! I couldn't believe it! Another unicorn! I have never met another one before, and even better, he's moving in right next to me! It sounds a little creepy, but I could watch him. Maybe he would do some... magic? I know it's illegal.. but maybe he's a rebel and doesn't follow the rules! Oh I couldn't wait to meet him! After he looked settled in, I walked over next door, and knocked on his door.

"Hello?", A firm voice came from the other side of the door.

"Um... Hi! I'm your neighbor Viel Vulter! I was hoping I could meet you and take you on a tour around ponyting.", I said with a little more excitement than I meant to. The door slowly opened. He was about a foot taller than me. He seemed so... powerful, like nothing could phase him.

"I'm sorry Ms. Vulter, but it was a long trip and I am quite tired.", he said with a calm yet somehow firm voice.

"Oh... are you sure? I could just show you a little bit of the town, or maybe just talk?", I said sounding a little disappointed.
"Viel!", I heard my father yell my name. "Viel what are you doing? It's almost dinner ti- Oh hello, you must be the new neighbor. My name Is Ace Vulter, and I'm guessing you already met my daughter.", My father said with a smile.

"Yes.. She is quite.. energetic.", The unicorn said with a smile.

I blushed, realizing that I was being a little to excited about meeting him.

"Well, I sure do hope you find this small little town to your liking. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to come-a-knockin'." My dad said cheerfully. The unicorn smiled and started to shut his door.

Before the pony could shut his door I asked him, "Wait! I never got your name!" He turned and looked into my eyes,.

"My name is Eissen." He turned back around and lightly shut the door.

Eissen. Eissen. Eissen. I would say his name over and over in my head. I didn't want to forget it, after all he was the first unicorn I have ever met. That night after dinner, I started having weird dreams... I was standing in a circle of flames. I saw a pair of Big blood red eyes staring me down. I heard an evil laughter. It sent a shiver down my back, it made feel like I was in the coldest of snow storms. The scariest thing was... the laugh.. sounded like me. I started breathing heavy, then suddenly there's a light from behind me. I turn to see a pair of eyes that.. look kinda like mine. The only difference was that they were a lighter purple.

I heard the voice say "Do not fear the darkness, for with friendship, you will achieve perfect harmony. Never let the dark side take you over."

This voice, like the first one, sounded a lot like me, yet some how I became more relaxed. Next thing I know My alarm is going off. I looked over, and saw that it was seven o'clock. I hit the top of it with my hoof and went back to sleep. As I drifted there was only one thing on my mind now: Why did I have that dream, and was something or someone trying to tell me something? As i drifted to sleep, I heard that laughter again, only this time it sounded more real than before.

Almost a year has past since that day. I've had more dreams like that since then. Some of them more realistic than the others. I didn't bother telling anypony, because I didn't want any of them worrying about me. On the brighter side it was about a week from my sixteenth birthday! I've been talking a lot with Essen since we first met. He eventually told me his whole name: Eissen Dargwell. It also turned out that he knew magic. I would see him using it to clean his house, tend to his garden in the back yard, trimming bushes. I have decided to ask him to teach me magic for a birthday present. I already know it will not be easy, but hopefully I will be able to convince my parents and Eissen to let me learn magic, but I was determined to get them to say yes. The day before my birthday, I was walking home from the market when I heard Eissen yell my name. I turned my head and he had a box in his hoof.

I walked over to him and asked, "What's that Eissen? Did you get a new book?"

Eissen sure did love his books. I got a peak inside his house once and saw that he had tons and tons of them. He gave a light chuckle.

"No you silly pony.", he said with a smile, "This is for you! For helping me around the house and tending to my lawn when I had that unfortunate accident with my lawn mower.. I still haven't gone near that thing."

Don't even bother asking me about what he did. I still don't understand myself, I'm not going to try and explain it to you and give you a headache in the process.

"Fo- For me? I asked with a little bit of shock, "But my birthday is tomorrow Eissen, why give it to me early?", I asked.

He looked at me with those soft ocean blue eyes and said, "Because I couldn't wait to see your face when you opened it!".

Eissen sure has changed since I first met him. He use to be so quiet and to himself, but after I got to know him and he got to know me, we became really good friends. He's like the older brother I never had. He always looked after me and helped me with my problems. He was always there for me no matter what. I know that I have only known him for a little while, almost a year, but I feel like I've known him for a life time!.

"Okay! I better not keep you waiting then huh?", I said as I grabbed the present from him.

My jaw dropped when I saw it, it was a create your on clothes kit.... yes I mean knitting kit but that sounds too girly so shut up and stop laughing. I discovered that I have a nice little talent for sewing clothes. I mean yea my mom taught me a lot, but I caught on pretty quick.

"Eissen.. I-I..Thank you so much!!", I said as I got him into a death grip of a hug.

"He-Hey easy now, don't strangle me to death.", He said with a goofy smile. "I knew you would love it. I even got you some good materials to start with. I know that you've wanted a vest for awhile now, so I bought you the materials to make one!"

I squee'd out of excitement and hugged him again.

"You better get on home Viel, evil things lurk around in the dark" He said with a weird tone in his voice.

"Oh ha ha Eissen, I live right next door, I think I can walk twenty feet and not be viciously mauled by a timberwolf.",I said with a prideful grin.

He smiled back and patted my heard. He turned around and shut the door as I ran off towards my house. I got inside, ran upstairs, and began to work on my little project. It took me about five hours, but I had finally done it. I had made my own little vest! I made sure to do what my mom taught me and made it a little bigger than what I usually wear, so that I would grow into it. During the time it took me to make this awesome thing, my parents checked up on me every thirty minutes or so. They even brought me dinner to my room, which actually surprised me. We always eat dinner together; I guess they are starting to give me my own space. It felt really weird. As I was putting the box under my bed I noticed a small bag inside of it. I picked it up and it had a small note on it. The note read:

Dear Viel,
This is a little something I got you at the market place. It's one-hundred percent real leather and really durable, I know it has to be for you, I've seen what your clothes look like. Anyways I thought you might like to have this. Inside of this box Is a cloak that will cover you from your head to your tail. This way if you ever want to go to a big city you can easily hide your horn and walk around freely, and it even has a small strap to wrap around your head so it won't blow off! I made sure to buy it in the same colors as the materials you will use to make your vest. I hope you enjoy this small gift.
Regards,
Eissen D.

I put the note down and picked up the bag. I looked inside and pulled out a beautiful light brown colored vest. Eissen was right, it matched my vest perfectly. I took an extra thirty minutes to attach the cloak onto the vest, and the final outcome was awesome! I decided to call it a night and go on and sleep. That night I didn't have a dream.. It was more like a nightmare. I was running in a forest, running from evil creatures. I heard snarling and yelping. Balls of fire were flying past my head. I ran and ran and ran, but I was not fast enough. The evil creatures caught me and tied up my legs together.

One of the big creatures walk up to me and he says to me, "Get use to this position Viel, you'll be tied up like this for the rest of your life." He said and let out the most evil laugh you could imagine.

I woke up at around three in the morning. I only stayed awake for a short time and fell back asleep. What did these dreams mean? I decided that if they kept getting worse I'd tell my dad or Eissen. They could help me for sure, but I just hope that they will stop soon so that I can finally get some peaceful rest again.
I couldn't help to wonder though, what if someone was trying to tell me something? To warn me of future events? I'm too tired to think about this. I'll figure this stuff out in the morning. Nighty nighty...

Today is the big day! I could hardly wait until this afternoon, so I could ask my parents about being trained in magic. I mean yea, I was a little bit nervous as to what the might say, but I couldn't wait to ask! Through out the day I "partied" if you wanna call it that. I hung out with a lot of my friends, raced some, played ponyball, and other fun activities! Finally it started getting late, and while I had great fun with all my friends, It was nothing compared to what I had planned for this evening. I didn't know what my parents would say, or if they would let me ever talk to Eissen again, but I had to take that chance. I wanted to learn magic so badly that I couldn't let this moment pass-up. Since it's my sixth-tenth birthday I thought that maybe they would be nice and say yes. The anticipation was killing me! As I got close to my house I noticed Eissen talking to my dad. My father had a concerned look on his face, something was troubling him, and it had to be bad, my dad never makes that face unless something is wrong. They see me walk up and instantly change the conversation.

"There she is! Come here birthday girl! Give you're dad a hug!", My dad said with a big smile.

I ran up to him and gave him the biggest hug I could. I turn to Eissen and lightly hugged him. For a stallion he sure is sensitive.

"Eissen, are you staying for dinner?", I asked with a giant smile.

"Of course I am!", He said with one of his charming smiles,"I wouldn't miss it for the world".

We were all sitting at the table, having fun, eating, talking, watching me open my presents. I got all sorts of neat things. Some how my dad and mom were able to save up enough to buy me an automatic sewing machine! No more stabbing my hooves! When dessert was served I decided that it was time to ask.

"Mom, dad ca-", I was cut off by them before I could finishing talking.

"Viel, me and your father have decided that it's time you learn how to use magic.", My mom said with a smile.

My jaw dropped. Did I hear her right? Am I dreaming right now? Is this real life?

"I..I.. Really?!", I asked with excitement.

"Yes Viel, you're a unicorn and we both know your urge to use magic, it's natural. We can't stop you, so we have asked Eissen here to train you. Nothing dangerous, just simple things like levitation, teleportation, and some other easy spells." My mom said to me. "We love you so very much Viel, and we want what is best for you".

I looked over at Eissen, and he grinned at me. "Well Viel? Do you wanna learn some magic?", He said with that damn friendly smile again.

I sure did love that smile, and don't get any ideas, Eissen is like my older brother, plus he's fifteen years older than me, so yea that's a thing.

"Y..Y..Yes of course! Thank you guys so much! You just gave me the perfect birthday gift!", I said with a huge smile.

That night as a went to bed, I had another dream.. only this one was... horrid. I looked down and saw that I was standing in a dark puddle... I looked closer to see what it was and I realized it was... blood. The smell of blood filled the air, and as I looked around I saw that there was blood everywhere..and this wasn't even the worst part. I looked up above my head and saw ponies being slowly ripped apart, screaming bloody murder as their limbs were severed. Some where getting eaten alive crying out with each bite that the creatures took out of them, and others were crying to be killed as the were being slowly skinned alive. I looked down in horror, almost puking. When I look back up I saw in-front the same dark figure as before, the one that tied me up.His glowing red eyes seeping into my soul. In a deep voice he tells me: This is your fate you little bitch, how long will you scream as you are being skinned alive, along with your parents and friends. Actually, why wait when I can just have you now?! Come here you little bitch! He then laughed darkly and swiped his claw at me. I woke up in a cold sweat. That was the most realistic dream I've have so far, and the most horrifying. I started to think of an old song that my mother use to sing me when I was younger, it always made the bad dreams go away. It worked. I fell asleep again, and as I drifted to sleep I heard a soft voice, almost celestial, say to me: Everything will be okay Viel, remember to always trust in you friends. At that moment I passed out and thankfully had no more terrifying nightmares, because that's all they were right? Nightmares?

Nothing much happened for the next couple of years. I trained with Eissen, and boy was he a great teacher. Before he even taught me any type of magic, he taught me how to use it. He taught me about the concentration required for levitation, teleportation, and a few other things. Eventually I started to learn how to actually do the spells. With levitation we started with a small twig, then several twigs. With teleportation we started with just going two feet, then 10 feet. It was small steps, and not going to lie it got kinda boring at times, but eventually I was able to use the spells he had been teaching me.
One day while training, while we were taking a break, I decided to ask Eissen about The Waste. I never got a straight answer from my dad, so I decided to ask Eissen. He has always told me what I wanted to know about anything, so hopefully he'll tell me what I'd like to know now. We were drinking some tea outside when I asked him.

"Hey Eissen, could you tell me about the waste?", I asked him.

He let out a deep sigh and turned to me. "I was waiting on you to ask this question, you're father told me that you had an interest in it.", he said to me with a half smile. "I figure it's time you learn about why ponies hate us, but before I start are sure you want to know?", He asked me with a concerned look.

"Yes!", I said quickly.

He nodded his head and said, "Okay now pay attention, it's a long story. It all started over one-thousand years ago, back in the simple days of Equestria. Back when everything was done manually or with magic. The Lord of Chaos, Discord, was about to be accepted by everypony. This was the doing of one of the Original Six. I don't remember which one exactly, I think her name was.. Fluttershy? Any hoof that's not important. On that day something of pure evil attacked, this creature.. no this monster's name was Vigor. While Discord was the Lord of Chaos, Vigor was the God of Evil. According to history books, he has the head, claws, feet, and tail of a dragon, the body of a bear, and wings of a bat. He also had blood red eyes, that could stare into anypony's soul. Everything he did was evil, and he corrupted everything he touched. I don't know where he came from, or if he is even from Equestria, and I don't know why he chose the day of his attack either, but I do know that the result of his attack caused the death of many ponies. After the first attack, the leaders of Equestria, their names were Luna, Celestia, and Cadence, put a barrier around Canterlot to protect it's people. For some reason, according to history books anyways, Vigor only focused on Canterlot. The leaders of Equestria planned on using ancient relics called The Elements of Harmony. These were extremely powerful relics, that had turned the Lord of Chaos himself into stone. They tried using them against Vigor, but it had failed. The ponies were shocked and couldn't believe it, so they had to retreat. This was the beginning of the twenty-five year war. During this time the leaders of Equestria were looking for any type of spell that could be used to kill Vigor. Even though the library of Canterlot had many magical spells, none of them would be powerful enough to stop Vigor, so they sent scout parties out all through Equestria, searching for ancient spells. After years of searching, they found nothing. Twenty-four years into the war, Discord tells the Original Six that he possibly knows about an ancient spell , that it could possibly stop, or even kill, Vigor, however, he neglected to say anything about the side effects of it. The Original Six gathered at the border of Canterlot, and ventured into the center of the battle. It took them eight days to reach Vigor's camp. The reason they didn't use magic is that their energy had to be at it's max when they use the spell, other wise it will not work. Vigor knew that they were coming and was waiting for them when they arrived. The Original Six had over one-hundred unicorns, and even three alicorns, but this alone would not be enough to stop him. The alicorns use a spell to surround the area with a barrier. The barrier stretched about three-hundred miles long and wide. At the same time the Original Six cast the ancient spell, and to everyponys surprise it worked, but with fatal side effects. The use of this spell had drained the alicorns of their magic, and killed all the unicorns that helped with the spell. Even with the Elements of Harmony, the Original Six could not survive the spell. Another unforeseen side effect was that the spell killed everything that had made contact with it, excluding the alicorns and that was more than likely because of their powerful magic. There is one theory that the alicorns knew of this side effect, and that's why they cast the spell to make sure that the spell killed all of Vigors minions, but not all of Equestria. This area is now known as The Waste."

I interrupted and asked, "That doesn't explain why almost everypony hates unicorns.".

"I'm getting to that Viel, be patient.", he said with a smile.

"Oh.. okay.", I told him.

"Okay.. now were was I... Oh yea. After they had won the battle, they returned to Canterlot to celebrate. Discord was not there when they arrived. According to history he fled after finding out the Original Six died. I don't know why he fled. Some say it's because he knew they would die, others say that he felt so guilty about it that he couldn't face the alicorns with what he had done. For the next few years people rejoiced that Vigor and his evil was gone, but this was short lived. The creation of The Waste had blocked out many trade routes, and this cost a lot ponies money, and to make it worse, monsters that some how survived the blast, were slipping out of the barrier created by the alicorns. Unicorns were sent to kill and dispose of the creatures. After awhile people started blaming the unicorns. They thought that they were making creatures just so that they would be praised even more. Of course this is a ridiculous statement, but mix crazy theories with angry ponies, and you get one hell of a storm. Eventually earth and pegasus ponies rebelled against the unicorns and alicorns. The Crystal Kingdom was the first to go, then Canterlot was next. The unicorns tried to stop them, but there was too many. The unicorns numbers were already thin too, most were killed during the war. For the next two-hundred years unicorns were hunted and killed, almost to extinction. Some point during this, some ponies grew a heart and tried to protect the unicorns. The result of this was a bloody civil war in Equestria. This had lasted about fifty years, until peace was made. The leaders of both fractions met in Canterlot and worked out a peace treaty. Unicorns were not allowed to be killed, unless they are caught using magic. If caught using magic they would be put to death. The reason behind this is that both sides thought that it was magic that brought Vigor into this world in the first place, so they wanted nothing to do with it. Both sides appointed leaders for Equestria. They are called The High Four. They consist of two earth ponies and two pegasi ponies. They were to keep order and balance in Equestria. Eventually the hate for unicorns started to die out, and while we are still hated, there is almost no where that unicorns are killed. The magic law has been reduced as well. If we are caught using magic, we get one warning by law, if we use it again we a sentenced to death. This doesn't apply for fillies... anymore. Now we live in a world almost normal again. Eventually unicorn hate will die out and we can, hopefully, live in peace again."

When he finished I couldn't believe what he had just told me. I mean I knew unicorns were hated, but for such a ridiculous reason? I grew up with love in my life and was always accepted, except for a few occasions, about being a unicorn. I'm glad that I now know of my heritage, and why unicorns are hated. I'm sure you are thinking the same thing I am: "How can they be so stupid?" Well there are a lot of stupid ponies out there, and if you get a whole bunch of stupid ponies together, they will do stupid things.

My twenty-first birthday was right around the corner. There was really only one thing I wanted, and that would be my cutie mark. Yep, you heard me right, I don't have my cutie mark. I'm twenty years old and I haven't found my talent. I thought sewing would be it, considering I'm really good at it, but nope. I didn't plan to have a big party this time either, maybe just hang around my house all day, do a little bit of work around the house, nothing special though. Since I'm almost an adult now, I needed to learn how to take care of the farm. I have learned a little from watching my dad, but I need to know everything if I want to make a living. I would work with my mom in the hospital, but it's just not my thing. Since we live in a small town nothing exciting ever happens. The only reason anyone goes to our "hospital" is for a flu shot or a check up, so it gets really boring. From time to time I use magic to help myself out in the farm field, but I'm careful with it, and so far no one has caught me. It was about five O' clock in the afternoon when I heard Eissen yell for me to come over. I looked behind me and decided that I had done enough plowing for one day, so I dragged the plow over to the barn and locked the barn's door. My dad was inside reading another book, the I had actually got him a few days ago. It made me feel good seeing him read it, it let me know he cares about me. I mean I know for a fact my father would die for me, and I would do the same for him, but still it felt good seeing him read that book. Anyways I walked over to see what Eissen wanted.

He looked at me and said, "Here come inside, I have an early birthday present for you."

I was kinda shocked at this. He never lets anypony inside his house, and yet here he is inviting me to just walk in. I went inside his house and man I knew he loved books, but what I saw a few years ago was only a fraction of what he had. There were no electronics in his house.. it was just books. Tons and tons of books. He went into a back room and came out with two little gold bracelets, with a small hole craved in them.

"These are for you!", he told me. "The rest of it should be arriving soon."

I looked at them and they were already beautiful enough. They looked like they were made out of pure gold. How in Equestria could he get something like that?!

"Try them on!", He said with a smile.

I took the bracelets and slid them around my left hoof, they fit perfectly. I was about to say thanks when there was a knock on the door.

"Hold that thought Viel, I'll be right back." He said as he walked to the front of the house.

While he was talking to the pony at the door, I decided to have a look around. The one thing I found strange, other than his freakishly huge book collection, was that I didn't see any photos of friends or family. I thought that, since Eissen was such a nice pony, he would have a lot of friends. As I was looking around I noticed a gigantic book sitting on a display shelf. I walked over to it and it read: Advanced Magic for master unicorns and alicorns. I decided to take a peak inside and see what was in it. Inside were spells of all sorts of magnitude! From fire balls to laser beams! Spells that could move entire mountains like pebbles.

"I see you found a book that you might actually read." Eissen said behind me!

His voice made me almost jump out of my skin! I didn't even hear him walk up behind me.

"Um.. Y..yea it looks really cool! Could you teach me any of these spells?", I asked him.

"No Viel, I can't even cast most of the spells in that book, and I'm almost a master in some of those spell types, you aren't near ready to learn those, plus they are way too dangerous. I promised your parents that I would teach you no such thing.", He told me.

"Oh.. well okay.", I said with disappointment. "I'll take your word on it, I don't want to get blown up or anything! So what's in the little box?"

"This is the last part of your gift. here give me your hoof." he said as he took my hoof.

Inside the boxes were two little gems. A light blue one and an orange one.

"These will represent our friendship Viel. You are the first friend I've had in a very long time, and I wanted to show that I really appreciate that." he put the little gems inside the bracelets.

"They're beautiful Eissen! Thank you so much!", I said as a hugged him.

"I'm not done either, I'm going to Canterlot tomorrow to buy some equipment for us to practice magic on, would you and your parents like to come?", Eissen asked me with a smile.

I should have said no, if I did maybe none of this would have happened. If I had said no, maybe some ponies would still be alive today, but I didn't know what would happen.

"Yes! Yes we would love to go, well I'd love to go! I'll go ask my parents if they want to come too! Thank you so much Eissen!", I said as a ran out his house to my house.

My dad asked me when it would we would leave. I told him tomorrow and he nodded at me.

"Isn't it a little early for a birthday present? I mean it's in three days and it's only a days drive from here. Maybe we should walk huh? That would take three days.", he said to me and laughed. "Sure honey, I'll be happy to go with you."

My mom walked in and I asked her the same thing.

"Sorry Viel, but I can't. There's a flu going around and the hospital needs all the staff they can get, but don't let that stop you. I want you to have a lot of fun dear!", She said and kissed my head.

"Alright mom, I'll try having fun, but it won't be the same." I said and kissed her back.

That night I had no nightmares. I haven't had them in a while actually, and I'm not complaining about it either. I couldn't shake this feeling though, like something big was about to happen. I mean yea my twenty first birthday was coming up, but it felt bigger than that. Like everything was about to change. As i drifted off into sleep I couldn't shake this feeling. Hopefully tomorrow it'll be gone and I can just have a fun time, I mean what's the worse that could happen?
