//------------------------------// // New life at home. // Story: The Separation of Mother and Daughter. // by SolidFerret //------------------------------// "I just don't get it." Rainbow Dash paced back and fourth. Soarin and Spitfire were there for support. "How could they not notice that fact that her father was unfit to raise her?" Rainbow said out loud once more. "Well maybe it was the court system. Anypony on jury can say whatever they want.'' Spitfire said. "It couldn't have been that. Maybe he knew the judge and she owed him a favor?" Rainbow said as she paced back and fourth at her home. "Was there something missing?" Soarin said. "Like what?" Dash said back. "Well, maybe there was something missing to show that you were Scootaloos' guardian." Rainbow Dash was about to object when she had a thought. Maybe there was something missing that made her a legal guardian. She thought hard to find the answer. "I never got the papers!" Rainbow yelled. "Thats what I was thinking of." Soarin said with a wave of his hoof. "I hate to break it but its to late." Spitfire said. Dash knew it. She lowered to her self to the ground. Ears falling flat to her head. Tears fell from her face. "I wish I could go back." She whimpered. Soarin felt bad and went by her side. "We can't go back to the past, but we can find a way to get Scootaloo back." He said with a comforting hug. "I just don't know what to do." Rainbow sobbed. "I'm all alone. I don't want to be alone." She was on the verge of a full-on meltdown. "You can stay with me." Soarin said rather quickly. Almost blushing at how fast he said it. "You'd do that for me?" Dash said with a gleam in her eye. "Of course, I lo- you're part of the team. We treat each other like family." He said. Spitfire rolling her eyes at how bad he tried to cover up his mistake. "Thank you." Rainbow said. She flew out while calling saying that she'll meet him out there. "You're real smooth Soarin." Spitfire said. "Well I care for her. I'd hoped you'd at least be happy for that." He said. "Just don't take advantage." She said as she walked out of Dash's house. "I won't." Soarin said. "Dad, I don't want to stay here." Scootaloo said. "Hey, I'm your father. I put you in this world. I have the right to raise you." He said. almost to loud and assertively. "But mo-" "She wasn't your mother. She was a caretaker until I found you." He said. "But she cares for me more than you." Scootaloo said under her breath. Unfortunately for her, Scootaloos dad heard nice and clear about her comment and trotted over at a quick and terrifying pace. "What did you say?" He growled. "Nothing. Nothing at all." Scootaloo tried her best not to sound scared. "Oh, I heard you." He said. Scootaloo gulped nervously. "Well it's true." Scootaloo figured that if she was caught, she might as well help her statement. "Well she wasn't your own biological mother. She had no right to raise you!" He yelled. "But I do. And I raise my daughter differently than her." Scootaloo flinched as he raised his hoof. "The guest room is made for you. The bathroom is that way." Soarin said as he pointed down the hallway. "Note. You are free to the fridge. Just don't eat everything or any of the pies I have." Rainbow Dash giggled at his last statement. "Well it is late so I guess we'll turn in for now." Soarin said. He had a nervous tone to his voice. He turned to his room when a voice stopped him. "Soarin." He turned around. "Yeah?" "Thank you." Rainbow Dash smiled at him. "I'd do anything to help you Rainbow Dash." He said with a smile. Scootaloo quietly weeped in her room. Just a dirty bed with a torn blanket. "Why?" She sobbed. "Why this? Why me?" She buried her face into her hooves. Ignoring the pain she felt on her forehead. She tried her best to not be loud so her dad wouldn't hear her. "I want my mom back. My real mom. Not the one who gave birth but the one who loved, raised me, and taught me even if I wasn't one of her own. She was a better parent then dad will ever be." She sobbed some more. "One day." She said as she looked out her window and at the night sky. The moon lit up her tear stained face as she stared at the twinkling stars. But her heart raced at the sight of a streak of light that went across the sky. she gasped as it disappeared over the horizon. Scootaloo closed her eyes and lowered her head. After a moment she raised it again and stared back. As if waiting for a sign of hope, a star twinkled brightly that could be seen in the reflection of her very eyes. "A sign." She whispered. She curled up and closed her eyes. She now had hope. Hope that her mother would prevail and save her from the nightmare that she couldn't wake up from.
