//------------------------------// // Welcome // Story: Who is that mare? // by JosephRascon1789 //------------------------------// Welcome to class "Is he really in our class this year?" "Yeah. I checked the roster four times just to make sure." "Wow I can't believe it!" The chatter outside the class room grew as the mares were bringing up this mysterious unicorn. The hallway was full of talented unicorns who were ready to start their first year of college. This wasn't a normal class, it was an advanced magic learners class for gifted unicorns. Thousands of unicorns applied but only thirty five were allowed to take the class. Everypony was ready to jump into their new stage of their life. The mares weren't really interested in the class its self, but the name Moon Ray was a topic that the mares could talk about for hours. The five stallions that stood in the hallway with the mares were invisible to the talking ponies. "Do you really think the rumors are true?" A white mare said while looking to a hallway that lead out to the quad. "I think they are." A blue unicorn replied. The stallions in the class looked disgusted listening to the talk of the mares. One spoke in a annoyed tone. "What's so special about this unicorn? I bet he is a jerk who doesn't even care for the mares that like him." "Or worse." One stallion added. "Maybe he uses them then moves on." This sent a chill down the stallions spines. "Why can't good looking mares fall for one of us?" on of the stallions asked. They shot him a look and he closed his mouth. Suddenly the talking fell as hoof steps and talking from the building entrance became louder and louder. "Okay, the advanced magic class is over there and your dorm is being prepared right now. Are there any other questions you have?" A older mare said. "No thank you miss.... Um I never caught you name." Replied a strong stallions voice. "Oh dear. Where are my manors?" She asked herself. "My name is Miss. Blossom, I work at the front desk in the student store. I am also the schools record keeper." "Thank you for the tour. My name is Moon Ray." The stallion replied. Giggles filled the hallway as a set of hoof steps got louder. The stallions that were insulting him rushed to the front of the group of mares waiting for the "perfect stallion" to pull the corner. The shadow grew larger and the steps got louder, while in the hallway, hearts raced and ideas formed. He stepped into view and just as expected the mares fell in love while the stallions started to think of lies to make him seem evil. He was waving at Miss Blossom who was near the door by now. When he put his hoof down and turned to see thirty three pairs of eyes staring at him, he jumped. "Um hello everypony." He said in a nervous tone. To the mares his words were like a knight in shining armor coming to save them from their boring lives and whisk them away to a place of perfection. To the stallions it was a declaration of war. Finally some of the stallions broke formation and dropped out of sight behind the wall of mares. Moon calmed down and realized what was happening. Why does this happen in every school? He said in his head. He raised a hoof and spoke in a kind tone. "Listen everypony I'm not interested in finding a mare friend...." He paused and started to think about what he just said. "Not yet any way. I want to get settled in and start my studies before I start a relationship." Correcting himself. I took the mares a couple seconds to break down what Moon just said. Finally when it clicked in their minds, the expressions on their faces went to something in between "no hope" and "I will be alone forever". They turned away from the black furred unicorn and went to a corner of darkness. He flipped his silver mane and looked back toward the quad. I hope I wasn't to hard on them. Why do I have to be so stupid some times?! He thought. Finally the tension was broken when a yellow pony walked in from another hallway. His blue work cloths almost made his yellow coat brighter. He fumbled through his keys, dropping them twice, and finally finding the one he was looking for with a smile on his face. He opened the door and walked away without saying a word. The unicorns picked up their bags and walked into the brightly lit class room. It was an amazing class room. The wall they were looking at what actually a huge glass window giving a beautiful view of the quad. The room had four rows and each was higher than the other. Each row could sit nine students. Each table was built for two and that gave all the mares an idea. They were going to sit next to Moon to gain an upper hand on the relationship race. All the unicorns stood in the door way waiting for somepony to move. The stallions were waiting for the mares and the mares were waiting for Moon. Finally Moon walked to the second row and took a seat next to the large window. There were five seats open where the mares had a good shot at getting his attention. When they all tried to move at the same time, a fight broke out. In the midst of their verbal onslaught one unicorn moved in and took the seat right next to Moon. The mares resorted to louder voices and insults while the four other stallions took the remaining seats. When the dust settled and the mares had made amends they looked to the last four seats. To their surprise the seats were taken. They grunted and groaned while looking for seats far from their perfect unicorn. ------------ An hour had pasted and the unicorns were talking to each other. Most of the talk was about Moon and how the seats were stolen from under their hooves. The stallions talked but Moon was just staring out the window to the green quad below their class room. Finally the door reopened and a unicorn walked in. He was a darker shade of yellow with light brown mane and a goatee. He was wearing a fancy white shirt, red tie, and aviators. He slowly trotted to the desk at the bottom of the class room and set his briefcase down. He looked at the class then back at the clock. "Well hello class. I've got good news and bad news." he said in a strange tone. "Well now that I think about it, it's double good news for you." He was rubbing the back of his neck in an attempt to seem koi. "First bit of good news. This class is going to be hard but if you are able to pass you will be able to take a magic class taught by the princess herself." Murmurs and gasps filled the room. "Second bit of good news for you, I'm hungover bad today so no teaching until Wednesday." Everyone in the class started laughing. He looked annoyed then he had a smile on his face. "Oh but don't worry. When you come in this class hungover, which I know you will, I will be sure to laugh at you to." He was glad the students didn't have any strong feelings towards him being hungover on his first day of teaching. He used his magic to lift up a piece of chalk and used it to write his name. "My name is Mr.Beam. You can all call me by my first name Sun if you please." He said with a smile on his face. "Talk among your selves." The unicorns did just that. The mares began their gossip while the stallions (excluding Moon) talked about how cool their life was now. Moon stared into the quad getting lost in his own thoughts. One of the mares broke ranks and walked to the stallion part of the class room. She was heading to the main prize, Moon Ray's table. The stallion sitting next to Moon jumped in the way. The sky blue unicorn looked at the unicorn in her way. "Do you think I could sit next to Moon just for today?" She asked in a quiet tone. The unicorn looked annoyed and tried not to sound sarcastic. "Hello to you to. My name is Wild Wind. Whats yours?" "Look I just want to sit next to Moon Ray. Is that to much to ask?" The mare said in a some what stern tone. Wild had enough of this mare trying to blow him off. He looked at the mare and said loudly. "Why do you want to sit next to a loser like that?" Moon had heard the comment but, he had no strong feelings toward the stallion. Just when Moon was about to tune out, he heard a loud thunk. He looked over to see Wild's face flat on the table. "Ow......... What did you do that for?" His voice was muffled by the table but loud enough for the whole class to hear. "What did he ever do to you?" She exclaimed. "It's not like he walked in and started making fun of you or bullied you!" Wild looked up and in a sad tone replied. "Yeah your right.... I will move." Right as Wild stood up, he felt a hoof on his shoulder forcing him to stay where he was. A voice that was smooth as silk spoke from behind him. "I think you should sit here for today. We have a full year head of us and I want to get to know my table partner." Moon said with a smile on his face. Both ponies standing there were shocked. The mares jaw dropped as Wild took a seat back down. She turned around and walked to her table and sat down empty hoofed. Wild looked at Moon with a confused face. Moon grinned and extended a hoof. "Hello. My name is Moon Ray. What's yours?" He asked "Um Wild Wind.... Is there a real reason you wanted to talk?" He asked confused. "Well we have to sit next to each other for a full year. I think I should get to know you." He replied happily Wild looked confused. After he had though of him being evil it kind of seemed like he was being honest. Wild had a reputation of misjudging ponies. He looked at Moon with a smile on his face. "Well hello table partner. I'm Wild Wind" He said confidently this time. "I love drawing the sky and relaxing in the quad. I don't really like being cooped up so forgive me if I get shaky." "Oh that's fine. I'm sure I won't notice. So do you have any of your drawings with you?" Moon asked happily. "Not the real ones.... But I have some on my phone. Want to see?" Wild replied. Moon nodded and looked at his new friends phone. There were hundreds of pictures about the sky and plains of open fields. Moon was blown back by the quality. Each picture was clear and beautiful to the point where he thought he was actually looking at a field of green grass, open blue sky's, and mountain ranges farther then the eye could see. "Wow these are nice pictures!" Moon said with enthusiasm. "Do you think I could see them in real life.... Or could you take me to the place you went for inspiration?" He asked Wild looked at his own photos then looked at Moons face. "You are joking right. I mean they aren't that great." Wild said with a frown on his face. Moon looked at him with a confused look. "What do you mean? These are great! Why do you think they are bad?" Moon asked still trying to think of a reason why he would say such a thing. Wild looked down. He wore a grim look on his face when he spoke. "My parents think I waste my time with the drawings. They always insult me when I come home with new drawings." He said sadly "Oh my.... Hey I really like these pictures and I know others will like them to." Moon said putting a hoof on his shoulder. Wild had never said this to anypony before. Yet when he looked at Moon he felt good to tell someone. I really think that this guy... Is cool. I think I would've called him friend if I met him. Wild thought Suddenly that idea hit him. Was Moon trying to become his friend? Wild would always lock his heart to new ponies because of an event many years ago. Wild looked around the room trying to find something to talk about. He didn't want to cut this chat early. "So um where are you from?" Moon had a smile on his face when he replied. "I'm from Fillydelphia. I grew up on the rich part of town but I enjoyed going to downtown to see all the different types of ponies." "Wow I'm from Baltamare. I lived I that city all my life. I always wanted to go to the north side and see why it was like." He seemed happier now. "When I went to school I meet a couple of north side ponies and they took me there. It was amazing." Moon smiled. "I bet it was. I never was allowed to attend normal school...." Moon said hanging his head in a mixture or sadness and embarrassment. Wild looked at Moon and felt bad. "Why? Didn't your parents let you go outside or play?" He asked in a hopeful tone. Moon just shook his head. When you were being raised by "prefect" parents there was no room for mistakes. He was were either perfect or they didn't care. Moon began explaining what kind of family he came from. Wild Wind thought he had it bad, but when he heard these stories he couldn't believe what his parents had done.
