Chapter 5: Explanations

Laurence
Fort Ashton, Griffin Kingdom
4 Hours after Launch of Operation Harmony

The black unicorn sat at his desk, staring at a picture of two ponies smiling at the camera. For Laurence, it had been a hectic four days since his mysterious “disappearance”. He had spent over 350 thousand bits building an army of earth and unicorns, and had spent millions more on buying equipment needed to carry out his mission successfully. However, after the capture of four of the Element Bearers and a successful attack on the EIA Headquarters in Canterlot, he knew that his money had been well spent. Laurence’s thoughts were suddenly interrupted when somepony knocked on the door. Laurence growled to himself, before putting the picture back on his desk, and pressed a button.

There was a loud beep, before the door leading into his office slowly opened, and a unicorn mare with a dirty grey coat and orange mane walked in. She quickly saluted, before clearing her throat. “I’ve got good news and bad news. What would you like to hear first?” She asked, no emotion in her voice. Laurence got out of his seat, before turning around to look at the large map of Equestria behind him. “I would like the bad news first Dragonfire.” He replied, making sure to channel as much authority into his voice as possible. Dragonfire nodded, before she pulled out a piece of paper from her knapsack. “Charlie Team reports that we’ve failed to capture the
Element Of Kindness. Her escort was too strong, and held off our forces with the help of reinforcements.” she reported. Laurence was silent for a moment, before he turned around to face Dragonfire. “It was the Element of Loyalty, wasn’t it?” He asked, his voice flat. Dragonfire nodded, before looking at her paper. “Not only her, but the famous Agent Sky Hawk as well.” She replied. Laurence sighed, before turning back to the map. “I’ll deal with them later. Anyways, you said there was good news?” He said flatly. Dragonfire put away the piece of paper she was holding, before clearing her throat again.

“The eggheads down in the lab told me to tell you that Archimedes is ready for use. Whatever the hay that means.” She stated. Laurence turned to face Dragonfire, and laughed. “Archimedes is the key to Operation Lau. We needed the Elements to power Archimedes.” Laurence explained, as he pulled out a file from his desk. Dragonfire stared at Laurence, before walking over to the map of Equestria. “But what does it do?” She asked, curiosity in her voice. Laurence was silent for a moment, before putting down the file onto his desk. “Archimedes is a machine that is powered by the Elements. It will allow us to teleport to anywhere in Equestria, and allows us to bring anything to us. It also can amplify a unicorn’s power by up to 500%.” Laurence replied, as he put on his standard issue Agency Sunglasses.

Dragonfire nodded, before she slowly walked over to Laurence. “I’m also curious to hear why you’re launching Operation Lau now. I know you’re eager to kick that whorse Celestia out of power, but why are you doing this now?” She asked slowly. Laurence looked at Dragonfire for a few moments, before sitting back down at his desk. “It all started when I was a foal. My parents made the unfortunate decision of speaking out against Celestia’s monarch, so they ended up getting executed. I was mad at practically everyone for a few years, but I eventually cooled down and forgot about the whole thing. Then about a week ago, I received a cease and desist letter from her highness ordering me to stop researching the Lau theory or face treason charges. I was beyond mad; after all I spent all this time gathering materials and ponypower needed to finally execute the Lau theory to get a new clean power source for all, only to get a letter from Celestia ordering me to stop! So I decided to finish my plan anyway, and told you to mobilize our army of mercs. And that brings us to the present.” Laurence explained,
Practically spitting out the name ‘Celestia’ each time. Dragonfire looked at the map, then back to Laurence.

“I can understand that. Anyway, do you need anything, or should I go? I have to deal proper punishment to Charlie Team for not completing their objective.” asked Dragonfire. Laurence wrote something down on a piece of paper, before putting the paper in an envelope and handed the envelope to Dragonfire. “Take this to the eggheads in the lab, and tell them that I will be down soon to observe the activation of the machine.” Laurence ordered. Dragonfire nodded, before grabbing the envelope and placed it in her knapsack. “I’m off to deliver your message, I’ll see you soon.” Dragonfire stated, before turning and opening the door out of the room and walked out. Laurence smiled to himself, before he picked up the picture on his desk again. “Mom, Dad, I’ll make you proud. I promise.”
