The Truth: Diary of a Young Mare

Day One

Day One

Dear Diary,

I guess that today would have to be my first entry. I've had a mighty humble life livin' here in Equestria with my beloved family. On the outside, we Apples are just happy ponies. We ain't got nothing much to complain about and we usually wear a bright, if not tired, smile on our faces. Ever since my family came here to Ponyville, we've been runnin' the family business. It used to be just the boys running our little farm here. But soon, we spread out across all of Equestria! It was some mighty fine first-known Equestrian globalization. Heck, I must be hangin' with Twilight too much. I didn't even know how to read much until I was barely 7! Doesn't seem that long ago. I'm nearly as old as my Granny Smith was when I was just a mare. But I'm gettin' a little off topic here, aren't I?

Let me just keep on talkin' bout my family. Like I was sayin', we fine ponies got relatives all over Equestria! We's mostly Earth ponies, but I think we managed to get in a unicorn or two, and maybe a few pegasus ponies. Life was always tough for us Apples. Bearin' our family name is our business. We sell the highest quality home-grown, sweet-as-sugar apples here in Equestria. We sure as sugar ain't the only country family in Equestria. I met a feller named Cherry Jubilee a few years ago as a matter a fact. But I think the Apple family is the largest and most well-known country family out there! Now a little about my family family. There was Granny Smith, my parents, my big brother Big Mac, and my little sister Apple Bloom. I also had a pet dog Winona, and she stills runs in the family too! Her pups had pups, and they did, and so did their pups. We only have four of these dogs currently on my Apple Farm: Sunshine, Spirit, Moonlight, and Freedom. The rest of her kin are spread around my family and even in Equestria! Why, I think cousin Apple Tart and his family have at least six puppies! Sooner or later, we gone be havin' ourselves one heck of a dog show. I met a stallion a few years back. A prince to be exact. I had two daughters, Petal Dreams and Daisyjack. Apple Bloom had only one daughter, Peachie Flyer, who of course is a pegasus, and Big Mac had two boys named Apple Seed and Zap Apple. As you can see, its kinda a tradition in the Apple family to be named after the literal fruit of our labor.

They grew up too. They even have fillies of their own now! My, I am gettin' mighty old. I guess that now I should introduce myself. My name is Applejack. I am a light orange earth pony with a blonde mane I used to tie back. Now I just wear it in a bun like Granny did. My tail always stayed tied back though. A kinda tribute to my Ma. My cutie mark is three apples, all shinin' like here on the farm. Our apple acres take up nearly half of Ponyville! And I ain't kiddin' neither.

I suppose I should be gettin' done what I came here to git done. And that is to tell my story. Its one of tragedy and sorrow, but also happy times and scary times too. My life ain't never been anythang normal. Nor will it ever be. I've always been the kinda pony that could blend into a crowd real easy, but if I summed up the courage and took the stage, almost every pony in Equestria would remember my face. There were times when I didn't know what I could do. There were times when I didn't know how to feel. All these times were just part of my life. The reason I'm a writin' this here diary is to teach all of my ancestors, who will carry the Honesty within them, about how I got through my life. I wanted to do this a long time ago, but I never found the time. I'm still a might busy even though I'm retired. That's why I'm labeled official babysitter here in Ponyville. Twi's too busy bein' a immortal princess and whatnot. Rare's too busy designin' purdy dresses in Canterlot. Flutters is still in Ponyville, as of Dash, but Flutters has too many animals gettin' sold for adoption to bother with foals anymore, and Dash just refuses to retire from bein' not only Captain of the Wonderbolts but still captain of the weather patrol here in humble little Ponyville.

I guess that I should be goin' now from this little desk in my room. Its mighty late, and I think I Petal's daughter a cryin'. My story begins tomorrow. Maybe this journal won't have enough pages for my life, but I don't know how long or how short its gonna be. I guess I'm gettin' a might ahead of myself though. More tomorrow, dear diary.

Honestly,

Applejack
