//------------------------------// // Twilight's Lullaby (Crossover LoZ) // Story: Tales Through Time // by NeotheTwilitUnicorn //------------------------------// (Luna’s POV) “What follows is a story my mother told me when I was just a foal. Before Equestria was made, there was one thing and one thing only. Chaos. Discord ruled long before my mother and father ruled, long before my sister and I were even thoughts in their heads. Everything existed all at once, yet nothing existed at all. But then, my mother and father brought order first to their small house, an amazing feat in and of itself. Soon, they became more powerful as they managed to bring order to even more places, and keep it there. Each little change weakened Discord, even if only slightly. But then, somehow, Discord grew stronger as well. He created chaos somewhere that not even my parents knew existed. He opened a portal to a new dimension. My parents then knew that they had to save that realm from Discord’s evil, chaotic ways. They managed to travel through the portal to the new realm, the realm of Hyrule, only to find it completely and utterly devoid of chaos. It was so perfectly orderly; my parents knew that they must have been tricked. They turned and attempted to jump through the portal again, only to jump through air. Discord had closed the portal right in their faces. They were stuck there forever. ********* “Now obviously as Celestia and I are here, they did not stay there forever, but still….” “Aunty, I thought you didn’t have a fa….” “Silence niece, and hear the rest of the tale.” ********* They traveled to what looked like the nearest place of civilization, my mother casting an illusion spell to hide their true selves, having seen one of the inhabitants, a human all clothed in green, swinging a sword wildly, cutting grass and making weird gems and random arrow bundles appear out of nowhere. They kept moving, arriving at what appeared to be a giant castle. They disguised themselves as humans so as to blend in, and were immediately almost run over by some woman in a flowing pink-and-white gown. They picked themselves up, and then something even worse than that happened. They were arrested by what looked like Royal Guards. They were brought before the rulers of the castle, a king and queen (not unlike what they became later). They found out that the King and Queen were, unsurprisingly, the rulers of that realm of Hyrule. The King said that he wanted to know who my parents were, but of course, my parents lied to protect their identities, as aliens were most likely looked down upon there. The Queen, however, saw right through their lies. ‘My King, they are being untrue to us. They are not who they say they are, nor who they appear to be.’ ‘What gives you cause to say this?’ ‘My King, my love, have I not always been a detector of truth?’ ‘You have.’ ‘Then trust me once more.’ ‘Very well.’ My parents quickly gave up on their charade, knowing that more lies could be even worse than telling the truth. My mother, always the diplomat, took the lead ‘King, Queen, you are correct. We have been untrue, but we were doing it for the sake of our lives. If you wish to know who we really are, what we really are, then ask once more.’ The King got annoyed quickly. ‘Of course we want to know! Tell us already, or I’ll have your heads!’ My parents flinched in unison, unaccustomed to such harsh words, even for their chaos-filled realm. They spoke together for the first time since their arrival. ‘Very well.’ They glowed slightly as my mother dropped the illusion spell, revealing their true forms, one Pegasus, one unicorn. The room, which was full of squires, knights, as well as the King and Queen, went dead silent, jaws all around hanging open. The Queen just stared at them for what seemed like an eternity. Then the King spoke. ‘What are you?’ ‘King, we are the ones that were coming here to save your realm from chaos-’ ‘Our realm is perfectly peaceful.’ ‘-but then we discovered that your realm was untouched. We attempted to return, but we were, and are, stuck here forever.’ The King, for the first time in a couple of years, laughed. ‘You think you are stuck here forever if you do not wish it to be?’ My mother nodded sadly. ‘Yes. That is how it appears.’ The Queen looked my mother right in the eyes. ‘Our deities, the three Golden Goddesses, Din, Farore, and Nayru, are the most powerful beings we know. If they answer our prayer, then you should be sent back to your realm within a few hours.’ ‘What do you mean ‘if they answer your prayer’? I never saw you pray.’ The Queen laughed quietly. ‘That was because you weren’t looking hard enough.’ My father, the brash one, butted in. ‘Well tell them to hurry up! We have to save our realm from chaos too, you know.’ ‘Boy, you will not address my wife like that!’ My father cringed a bit. ‘I apologize, your Grace.’ ‘It is well.’ He turned towards his wife. ‘Now, my dear, we have other matters to attend to.’ The Queen nodded solemnly. ‘Indeed. With your leave, I will take these two with me so that I may welcome these diplomats from another world.’ The King nodded. ‘Go.’ The Queen rose, and motioned for my parents to follow her. They did so and the King turned back to the rest of the throne room’s inhabitants. ‘Well? What are you all doing standing around?! Get back to work!’ The various laborers and servants got back to work quickly, for fear of angering the King further. (Meanwhile, in an antechamber) ‘Listen, both of you. If you are truly stuck here, then all you had to do was talk to me. My prayers are regularly answered by the Golden Goddesses.’ My mother sighed. ‘Yes, your Grace.’ ‘But then again, there is one other alternative. It will be quicker--’ ‘Well, do it then!’ My mother glared at my father. ‘Shut it for now! I love you, but sometimes you are one of the stupidest pegasi I know.’ ‘—but it is not guaranteed to work, and who knows what will happen if it does.’ My parents fell silent. ‘Are you still so anxious to go through with it?’ My father nodded vigorously, while my mother thought about it for a moment, and then nodded in agreement. ‘We are.’ ‘Very well…. When you are ready, or after ten minutes, go to the main courtyard. Tell no one.’ My father nodded quickly, and my mother simply nodded. The Queen turned, and strode off towards her room, not far away. (In the Queen’s room) ‘I cannot believe I am about to risk everything, nay, my life, to send these two things back home, but from what I have heard from them, it might be worth it. If my husband finds out, oh the things that will go wrong.’ She opened a drawer on her dresser, and pulls out what looks like a blue potato with holes. ‘Ocarina of Time, do not fail me. For my sake and for theirs.’ She turned once more, and walked to the main courtyard, servants dropping to one knee as she passed. (Eight minutes, thirty seconds later) My parents trotted out to meet the Queen in the courtyard, and there she was. ‘Follow me. We must go further away if we are to not arouse suspicion.’ My father followed along behind the Queen, but my mother was not as quick to follow. The Queen turned and looked back at my mother. ‘Why do you hesitate?’ ‘You have been so generous, and now you are doing something which could go horribly wrong, all for two strange things which you just met not an hour ago.’ ‘I just feel this connection between us, especially you and I.’ My mother blinked, hesitating still. ‘Come now. We must see you home safely.’ ‘We?’ ‘Sorry. Royalty thing.’ My mother shrugged as she trotted along behind my father and the Queen. She stayed further behind them, not fully trusting the Queen. When my mother finally arrived at her destination, a minute or so behind the Queen and my father, she stopped and spun around a few times. Something was wrong. She turned around to face the Queen, and her husband, or so she thought. When she faced the Queen, she was alone. Her husband was gone. ‘Oh you silly unicorn. Did you really think I would do something like this for two aliens I barely know? Guards, seize her!’ My mother noticed something startlingly familiar about the voice. ‘YOU!’ The Queen laughed a laugh that my mother had heard mere hours before she arrived in Hyrule. ‘But this doesn’t make sense! How could you have been here already? We followed you through the portal only a few seconds after you went through, and you even shut the portal in our faces!’ The Queen laughed again. ‘What fun is there in making sense? And as for this ‘we’ stuff. You should start saying I.’ My mother stopped, confused. ‘What do you mean? The Queen doubled over, and glowed as the one behind the fakery drops the illusion spell. ‘DISCORD!’ ‘Ah my sweet rebel.’ My mother growled at him, already, her mane and tail were sparking. ‘What. Have. You. Done. With. My. HUSBAND?!’ ‘Oh nothing too terrible. I gave him a quick death. More than I’ll do for you!’ My mother just stopped moving, immobilized by the sudden realization. But then, her powers blossomed. Her mane and tail caught fire, and she floated into the air. ‘THOU SHALT NOT HARM ANOTHER BEING! NOT WHILE I LIVE AND BREATHE!’ Discord merely laughed at her pyrotechnic display. ‘Come at me!’ My mother laughed, and then her horn lit up, and raw magic began coursing through her veins as she discovered her full potential. Suddenly, an invisible force grabbed her, and threw her against the courtyard wall, and she fell down, stunned. Discord laughed again. ‘Is that all you have you pitiful little unicorn?’ But then my mother rose, her horn relit, and she smiled. ‘You only wish it was!’ What happened next could only be described as utter chaos. Several bursts of flame came out of my mother’s horn, all doing their best to roast Discord. But Discord simply slowed them down, slowing time itself, and stepped to the side, and then he rushed at my mother, grabbing her by the horn. ‘I know it is.’ He laughed evilly, and then ripped off my mother’s horn, almost killing her. He threw my mother against the wall again, and then drove her own horn through her heart. My mother shuddered twice, and then went still. Discord laughed again. ‘Chaos has risen! I will rule FOREVER!!’ But then, something unexpected happened. The Queen appeared to enter the courtyard from behind Discord. ‘I don’t think so.’ Discord spun around. ‘What are you doing here?’ The Queen laughed, and then pointed to the body behind Discord. ‘The body you left lying on the ground behind you… look again.’ He turned, and saw a human body where he had thrown a pony’s. ‘The true Queen of Hyrule sacrificed herself for me. When I told her of your evil deeds, she thought about it for the span of half a minute, and then went to talk to the King. It was then when you kidnapped her, and attempted to replace her. I caught on quickly, found her, and freed her. Ever since then, you’ve only been seeing her, not me.’ ‘What?’ Then the Queen was surrounded by a shimmer, and when the shimmer faded, my mother was standing there. ‘I’ve been playing her part for a while now.’ Discord stood there, looking completely confused. ‘And now, the End is here!’ My mother’s horn lit up, and a beam of energy lanced out, and it slammed into Discord, knocking him down, and then she launched huge blasts of energy at him, forcing him further into the ground. Discord finally managed to block a few blasts, and get up. ‘Well then, it seems you have become powerful… but that is in your element. Let’s see how you do in mine!’ Discord ripped open another space-time hole, and threw my mother through, striding through himself. My mother landed on a rock floating in the air, with Discord standing atop another. He cackled as my mother just stayed down, but gasped when she rose once more. ‘You just made a big mistake Discord.’ ‘How? I removed you from your order. You are surrounded by chaos!’ She laughed. ‘You brought me home!’ Her horn grew brighter than it ever had before, and the pink mists surrounding them both, the physical manifestation of chaos energy, swirled around her, creating a perfect sphere, and then she absorbs the mist, and her body glows. The light blinded Discord, and when he could see again, what he saw was not my mother, yet it was. ‘You… you’re an alicorn?!’ My mother laughed again. ‘Yes.’ Then she flared her wings, and her horn lit up even more than before her transformation, and her mane began to spark, before fully bursting into flame as she floated into the air. ‘POWER OF THE RAGING ALICORN!!!’ Then she fired a wall sized beam of harmonious magic at Discord, sealing him away inside of the earth, and she slowly floated back down on to her little rock. She looked around, and her horn glowed faintly. ‘I remake this world in the image of order and harmony.’ With those words, the pink Chaos Mists began to swirl and shift, and otherwise move about as order slowly started taking its rightful place, creating first the red earth, then the skies and waters, then all of life itself. My mother moved the Sun back into its rightful place, and the cycles of Day and Night began to normalize themselves, with herself to keep them in check. She then landed on a small outcropping of rock on the side of a mountain, and she created a small home for herself. ‘This shall be the capital. Canterlot.’ She laid her head on the soft grass near her home, and smiled to herself. With her dark red mane lying haphazardly over her face, and her white coat dirtied from the fight, and from creating the new Equestria, she slept. A song was heard across the land, and even across space and time. It has many names, but here, it remains ‘Twilight’s Lullaby’." ********* “Auntie, why is the song called what it is?” “My niece that is a question that my sister must answer.” “Oh fine….” Cadence gets up, and trots out, determined to find Princess Celestia, and discover the reason why the song is named after Celestia’s student.
