Zephyr dies!

The plague of un-death
By moistStorywriter

The air was crisp in the ponyville orphanage as its only remaining staff member rose from his nights rest, his name was Zephyr a pony that preferred company with his thoughts rather than the banter of friends. For being in a town known for its hospitality and an average freind list of 50 or more ponies, he was for a lack of a better word “out of the ordinary”, not that he didn’t mean to shun from having friends it was just how he was from a very young age he prefered to sit under a tree and fly paper airplanes with the gift of being born a unicorn. This consequently led him to getting his cutie mark, three gusts of wind that on a summer eve rested themselves onto his grey flank.

“ugh” the sigh echoed through the empty halls of the orphanage “why must it always be so cold” Zephyr reluctantly shifted the blue checkered sheets off of him, stretching his fore-hooves into the air “i guess i should get up”. Zephyr began his daily routine of making himself breakfast, cleaning the dust in his office and staring off into the confines of his mind for hours.

Zephyr made himself comfortable in his office overlooking the lonely road leaving ponyville “what is that?” on the road in front of the orphanage lay a cyan coloured mare, Zephyr stood from his seat, is she okay?, opening the double wood doors of the orphanage made his way onto the road “are you ok mam?” the body was lifeless “mam?” approaching closer to the mare “mam?” Zephyr extended a hoof to the mare “ohh god!” the mare went from lifeless carcass to a fitting child within seconds of Zephyr's touch, her body spasmed violently sending her flying towards Zephyr pinning him to the ground. she began to growl and foam at the mouth, “HELP!” the mares jaw dislocated as she attempted to devour Zephyr. Zephyr reacting late reared his hind legs under her belly and kicked sending her into the air but even landing with such a force did not hinder the monster as she quickly recovered from the fall, Zephyr climbed to his feet in haste to get inside the orphanage and barricaded himself from the monster. “what is going on?”

The monster continued its assault on the wooden doors of the orphanage zephyr barely struggling to keep them shut and him safe, Zephyr horn lit up “i've gotta barricade the door” the iron orphanage beds in the hall took the tint of his horn and slid their way across the floor in a eruption of chalkboard to nail sound, within several minutes of concentrating his efforts between keeping the life saving doors shut and attempting to barricading sed doors he could relax a little and recover from physical and mental fatigue. “phew that was close” now that the deterer of peace was locked outside zephyr made his way back to his office to alert authorities of this thing?, the phone rang echoing in the empty space of zephyr office ring ring ring “nothing uh this isn’t good” “what am i meant to do?” with the fact that he's completely alone in his predicament he looked out of the window overviewing the road to check on the crazed cyan mare “CRAP! shes gone!” Zephyr frantically scanned the view from the window, then his memory flashed “the ..the BACK DOOR!” Zephyr mind raced trying to figure whether that creature is really smart enough to know of such a thing.

He carefully moved to the door of his office to see if he hear the creature, listening intently with his ear to the door, a slight moaning sound seeped its way upstairs “no no no why was i right about that just NO!” “please tell me i said that in my head..”, creaking of the stairs echoed in his ears “why Zephyr why” getting up from his state of slight shock he moved to the window his horn glowing and forcing his desk and its contents flying to block the door, and in reaction the mare out side began to frantically harass the door with all its being. Being next to the window Zephyr’s eyes noticed a glimpse of colour from below him violently jerking his view so he could inspect it and to his disappointment it wasn't saviour but instead what looked to be more of the beasts, he knew this as he remembered the look on their faces with the foamed mouths and dislocated jaw except the ones below him had blood stained fur and mouths.

At this point he really was starting to panic as their was no way that the office door could hold the weight and frantic bashing of several of those things, the door was having enough trouble as it is and the only reason its had not broke yet was because of the cheap, flimsy and probably soon to be destroyed desk in front of it. “i've gotta get outa here” he scanned the room quickly but carefully for a way out of the room that he was unfortunately stuck in, but to no avail his search pulled no results or any hope of escape “well then i have two choices jump out of the window behind me which is at least two stories high and probably break my legs and be eaten alive or stay here then be eaten alive both great choices really considering my circumstance” he said this with such a tone expecting an encore of laughter to emanate from below him like a crowd of bystanders watching a comedy show, but unfortunately his sarcastic comment was met simply by the moans and bangs of creatures outside trying to devour him. Accepting his fate he slumped to the floor with regret that he had inherited an orphanage that had an awful layout and integrity for defending himself from rabies infected dead cyan mares.
”Le sigh”
