//------------------------------// // This is only the Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship // Story: The Random Life of Spike and Twilight // by RosePetal //------------------------------// Chapter 1: This is only the Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship Chaos.... That is all the young filly could see. She was not sure how or why it happened. One minute she was simply trying to pass a test to get into Celestia's school, then in one minute she saw the room in chaos. The judges were flying in the air, her loving parents were turned into potted plants and the little purple dragon she hatched turned into a giant dragon that crashed the roof. "Why am I doing this?" she thought. "Why can't I stop?" Suddenly a hoof reached over and touched her head and then things went back to normal. Twilight looked around in shock to see that all the magic she did was removed. It was almost like it never happened. Then, she looked up to see a tall white winged horse who looked down at her. She gasped in shock and almost embarrasment. It was Princess Celestia. Oh no, thought Twilight. Princess Celestia is probably here to scold me for all the trouble I caused. This is bad, this is really, REALLY bad! I'm going to fail! I'm going to fail! "Twilight Sparkle," began Princess Celestia. "Oh, I'm so sorry." said Twilight Sparkle in a sad tone. "I didn't mean... " "You have a very special gift," said Celestia. The comment made Twilight very surprised. "I don't think I've ever come across a unicorn with your raw abilities." Twilght Sparkle just stood there in complete shock . For starters, she was glad that Celestia was not mad at her. The last thing she ever wanted to do was to embarrass herself, or make Celestia mad at her. The princess continued talking but Twilight was still in surprised over what Celestia was talking about. The great Princess Celestia, actually saying that she had a gift. And not just any gift, a gift that only she had, according to Celestia. "Twilight Sparkle," Celetia began "I'd like to make you my own personal protégé here at the school." Twilight wasn't paying attention but she soon figured out what the princess was saying. She pondered the statement for a moment. If she stayed at the school, she would learn magic from Celestia which had been her dream. But on the other hand, she would probably spend less time with her family. What if she never saw her parents again? What about her brother, Shining Armor? Will he still be around so they could have fun together? What about her babysitter, Cadence? She would no longer be able to babysit for her any longer. Then in a matter of seconds, Twilight suddenly realized something that she forgot. Her parents were with her the whole time during the test. She gave herself a mental facehoof for worrying too much. That was always a bad habit she would do. But she quickly thought of her parents and their decision . Her parents would know what to do.... right? She looked at her parents. The two of them nodded their heads with grins on their faces. They were simply saying "Go, it will be fun. We believe in you." After a few minutes, Twilight took a deep breath in, her decision was made. "YES!" she squeaked with delight as she bounced around the room. But the good news would get even better for the little filly. Celestia pointed at the filly's flank which showed a bunch of little stars and one big purpleish star in the middle. "My cutie mark!" the tiny filly gasped. Then she cheered and continued to bounce around again. She quickly stopped for a moment and asked her teacher a question. "When will my lessons start?" "Tomorrow," replied Celestia. "Make sure to get here on time, okay?" "Okay," said Twilight as she and her family were preparing to make their departure. Suddenly, the filly stopped and looked over at the small dragon. She noted that this was the same dragon she hatched with her magic. He looked over to Twilight with a sad smile. Twilight then felt sad for the dragon. It didn't look like he had any friends or parents for that matter. She wanted to at least take responsibility for him and care for him. I can't leave him here, thought Twilight. Maybe if I ask, I can bring him home with me! "Can I bring him home?" "Who?" asked her father in a confused tone of voice. "The dragon," said Twilight, "I want to bring him home so I can raise him." "Oh, I don't know honey." replied her mother sadly. "We don't know anything about raising dragons." "We don't even know what a dragon is." said her father. Twilight felt sad about this. There was no use in arguing with her parents about this. "Okay then." she said with a sigh. She was about to leave when she heard Celestia wanting to talk to her parents. She didn't know what it was about but she knew it was about the dragon. Then, Celestia approached her with a warm smile on her face. "Oh, don't worry." Celestia said in a reassuring tone to Twilight. "You can see him anytime you want. I have some lessons I have to give him too." "Alright." said Twilight happily. She was dissappointed that the dragon couldn't stay in the Sparkle's house, but she was fine with meeting the dragon during her lessons with Celestia. "See ya later, Spike!" Twilight said to the dragon as they left. "Who's Spike?" her father asked curiously. "That's what I'm calling the dragon." Twilight giggled. "I called him that he looks like he has spiky hair!" "But he doesn't have hair......" her father said before his wife hushed him. "She can call him whatever she wants to call him." she said. And so, the bond between Celestia and Twilight had begun. But little did the little filly know, that it was also the beginning of her friendship with that small, spiky dragon.
