Part 10

EchoBeat tapped his hooves on the table. Boredom was getting to him. He was waiting for Iris, the pony they met the other day. She had agreed on helping with growing plants.
FeatherTune sat across from EchoBeat. "Why have you been hurting yourself so much. It's usually HyperBlitz who gets hurt." Echo said.
Feather shrugged. He looked over at his bandaged wing. "At least I still HAVE my wing."
EchoBeat nodded. Then he put his face on the table. He was tired of sitting here.
Suddenly BlazingFlair walked through the door. "Echo."
He sat up. "Finally!!!"
EchoBeat went over to the door of the meeting room. The unicorn stood to the left. He summoned her with his hoof. Iris went over there. They went past the meeting Room an then outside. There area was cover with a roof, so that way the rain wouldn't get in.
"What kind of plant is it?" Iris asked.
"Tomatoes." EchoBeat replied.
Iris looked over at the bud and frowned. "Well first of all, you're not growing it right. They grow fast, but they are a climbing plant. They need have a fence or pole." She explained. "Do you have any sticks or something.
"There's some metal rods over there." Echo pointed.
Iris went around the corner for a few moments. She trotted back and had three poles. She held them with her magic. Iris took them and stuck them in the ground alined at the back of the bud.
"Now what? I watered it earlier."
"I'll see what i can do." Iris leaned down and put her horn close to the tiny plant. A colorful aura appeared around the plant. It shimmered and seemed to grow. It got taller, then stopped. "You see, my magic is based off of light. Do you have lighting?"
EchoBeat looked over. "I have a lamp. But your magic seems to do a lot more then that."
"Of course, I speed up the process." She let the aura come back. The plant grew more. Then Iris stopped. She was tired. This was actually harder to do then it looked.
"Its up to you from here. But I think it's good you're doing this. It will help ponies with no food."
EchoBeat nodded then led her out. He went back to the plant and sat down by it. He looked at it for a while. "Come on little plant. I know we have food, but I just wanna do something that will help."
"And you explain that to a plant and not a pony?" A laugh came from the door. HyperBlitz walked in. "We know you wanna help."
EchoBeat just stared at him.
"But you shouldn't be by that plant the whole day." Hyper said.
"I can do what i want. And I want my plant to grow. I know talking helps it grow." EchoBeat said.
"How about singing to a plant." Hyper cocked his head.
"As long as you don't SCREAM at the plant." EchoBeat told him.
"No, I'm not gonna sing to a plant anyways. I don't really care. I'd rather sing to ponies." HyperBlitz shook his head.
"I wouldn't mind doing concerts. I'll make us happy and other ponies happy." Echo said.
Hyper cracked his neck. "Yeah, but CharmingRhythm would have to agree. And I don't think he's really felling it."
"I don't know why... Rhythm has changed more then any of us."
HyperBlitz bowed his head in agreement. Then he looked over. He headed back inside.
Echo gazed back at his plant. There was some little yellow buds on it. Those must have been the flowers. Then EchoBeat stood up and stretched his legs. He picked up the lamp and put it over the plant. He turned it on and positioned it correctly.
Then he went inside too. He trotted into the main room. Nopony was on the computer. Usually BlazingFlair was on if Echo wasn't on. EchoBeat got on the chair and resumed the session on the computer. He clicked the messages. A few were in there. He saw there was a message for HyperBlitz. but it was posted a few hours ago. So there wasn't much of a chance that the pony was still online.
Echo looked at the time. 9:14. It was late. Well late for them. So EchoBeat turned off the computer. He jumped back down and headed for the hallway. He traveled almost to the end, then turned. He closed the squeaky door behind him.
The room was dark, so Echo turned on a little light. It was blue like most of the pure energy. He looked out the window. He couldn't see much, but he knew that it was the dead world out there. EchoBeat turned over. Before he went in his bead, he noticed his drumsticks were siting on it.
When he went to pick them up, the dropped on the floor and rattled. EchoBeat froze and looked over with wide eyes. He didn't want to wake anypony. He waited about a minute. Then Echo curled his hoof and took the drumsticks. He placed them gently on his nightstand. He kept his hoof on them so they wouldn't roll. Echo sighed then turned back around.
He jumped onto the bed. It wasn't a comfortable bed, but it was the best he could get. It was much better then anywhere the ponies outside slept. They probably only had blankets on the cold floor of the buildings. He glanced up and extended his hoof to turn off the small, blue light.

Then all was quiet at the base.
