Chapter 9: Ragnarok part 2


Last chapter: “Ah, it would seem that he has more defences than I first thought, there he is.” The GM says as the screen in front of him shows ambush and the other three mechs stood in Ponyville with many ponies rushing towards the castle.
“Now this will be fun. I will take this planet and he can’t stop me. My soldier, loyal to me and SKULL has finally defied me. Time to kill what I created.” He adds as he stares at the mech which is staring at the camera of the scout plane as if staring at the GM.


<30 minutes later>


On Equestria the mech are still pouring out of the mech facility, 16 Havoc mechs have now been created and are waiting for battle in Ponyville. The evacuation procedures were much organised and now all of the residents of Ponyville have been escorted to Canterlot. The guard mechs that protect Ponyville have stayed behind to fight off any SKULL soldiers that invade. 

In the sky the sun is almost at the horizon as it gets darker, three dots in the sky begin to descend towards the surface, after a few seconds it can be seen that they are fighter jets, they fly down at amazing speed and begin to open fire on the mechs with chain gun fire, this has no effect as the rounds are absorbed by the Primal armour of each mech. The jets fly overhead of the preparing mechs in Ponyville and head for Canterlot. All of a sudden one by one the jets explode in mid-air as the guarding mechs at Canterlot open fire on them.

Mechs continue to exit the facility, as one mech walks out another walks out at the same time, could there be a manufacturing malfunction?

“Mathis, what’s going on at the facility, why are there two mechs coming out at once?” Kieron questions him.

“Ah, no, the manufacturing is running perfectly, that would be Dr Atom Discharge. He didn’t evacuate, he wants to help you.” Mathis replies as the mech very quickly nears him.

Ambush turns to the approaching mech, knods to him and gets a knod back as the mech stands next him, “Dr Atom. Can I just say, you are very foolish not heading for Canterlot, I can’t guarantee that you will survive. And when did you learn to pilot a Havoc mech?” he asks as Ambush turns to looks at him.

“I didn’t, I’m learning now. Seems pretty straight forward, oh and what do you think of my design?” he replies.

“Looks good, quickly design but...where’s your weapons?” he asks, “You have none except for the devices on the shoulders which I think will be very helpful.” Atom’s mechs the puts its arms up as the lower part of the arms, which are more bulky than the upper arm, fold round, down over the hands to create what looks like a cannon on the arms, the mech then swings the arms down to its sides as two large laser blades emit from the holes. 

“Very nice, you certainly have created a good design, but you have no ranged weapons...” he comments. 

“My mech is called Hades by the way, and yes it does have ranged weapons...” he replies as Hades lifts his right arm up, deactivates the laser blade and points the arm at another set of jets passing overhead, a glow emits from the hole as an energy burst shoots out and hit against the jet causing it to spiral down into the ground, “It has pulse cannons, great for pushing things about.” He adds as Hades lowers the arm, the weapons fold up round the arms to reveal the hand and give Ambush a high-five.

<On the Malevolence>

“Sir, two groups of fighters has been downed. We have made no difference to their defences. And we have detected a large city on the opposite side of the planet that is inhabited by different creatures, griffons, sir.” An officer says as he stands next to the Grand Master’s chair.

“Good, take us round, we shall destroy it ourselves. As for here, begin invasion, send down three squads of Deathtroopers, a squad of Talons and a tank, plus send down a group of Havoc mechs.” He replies as the drivers begin to adjust course and the ship starts to move towards the other side on the planet.  


<On surface>


Kieron looks up into the night sky as they can all see the outlines of the ships and the many lights coming from them, one of the ships can be seen moving. It was the Malevolence; it was heading away from Canterlot and Ponyville but instead was circling the planet, following it round.

“What is he up to?” Kieron asks himself as he looks over to the other ships only to see multiple lights heading down away from the ships, “No, they’re too early for invasion, there’s still another hour to go before SKULL invasion procedures are at full capacity. He must be sending a light attack force to weaken our defences for the full force.

The dropships soon reach the surface over by the edge of the Everfree forest but away from the mech facility, three squads of Deathtroopers the depart as a squad of Talons also depart with a tank and they all head for Ponyville where Zeldax, the four recruits and the guard mechs are waiting.

As they approach the tank begins to open fire on them destroying buildings as it misses them, one round then hits a drone mech, as it goes to return fire Kieron stops it, telling it to conserve ammo. The squads and tank soon reach the edge of Ponyville and cautiously pass between the mech that stand and watch them, some foolish Deathtroopers don’t keep lookout as they look up at the mechs and are tackled by Zeldax and shot at by the recruits, the other troopers then take cover behind walls, buildings, and rubble from destroyed house and return fire as the guard mechs begin to close in on them.

The Talons garrison a building as they fire down on the recruits from the top floor of a house, Treacle Tart’s house to be exact, the recruits stay stood in open area as two of them turn and return fire at the Talons, the others firing on the Deathtroopers. They stand in a group in their power armour sponging all the shots, their eyes glowing red, the tank then passes over a pile of rubble and take aim at the group. Before it could fire a guard mech blocks its sight as it lands on the front it and begins to blade at the armour and shots into the interior. 

One of the garrisoned talons pulls out portable laser cannon, aims at the mech, fires, and destroys it as it falls off the tank into a hunk of metal on the ground; the tank then takes aim once more at the ponies, ready to fire. As it steadies aim as another mech lands on it and begins to finish off the tank, another mech the rushes over to the house and enters it to take care of the Talons, the recruits help it and dash into the house too.

As the battle under them continues, Kieron, Moonshine, Atom and the drone mechs watch as eight Havoc mechs crash-land not for in front of them. They ready themselves as the mechs rise up in the darkness, their ‘eyes’ look daunting in the darkness. They then begin to walk towards them as some of the drone mechs begins to charge to cut them off.

Some of the mechs then slam into each other as they engage in melee combat, others strafe as they provide covering fire, and mechs begins to fall as the SKULL mechs destroy them, the drone mechs being replaced almost instantly as more pour out of the facility.  Kieron and the other stay stood as they watch the drone mechs battle, all of a sudden, unexpectedly more SKULL mechs crash into the ground, Kieron looks up to see at least 25 fires in the sky as the mechs descend to the surface, “What is this? He can’t...He’s gone against SKULL procedures, they’re sending half the mechs down now. Moonshine, Atom, prepare yourselves, the war’s coming early.” He calls out as more and more mechs crash into the ground, rise up and stand as the others land behind them, building up a force before attacking.

Soon there is so many SKULL mechs that they out number Kieron, Moonshine and Atom 5-1, but luckily they have the drone mech supporting them which are putting up a great fight as they destroy multiple mechs but at a loss as they lose more than they destroy. 

Suddenly there is a loud noise from behind Ponyville as some lights pass over them very quickly and hit against some SKULL mechs, Kieron looks back to see the sniper mechs at Canterlot opening fire on the SKULL forces, “Yes, we have back-up. I didn’t know they could fire that far.” He comments as they rapidly fire more rounds into more of the SKULL mechs which fall to the ground. One of the SKULL mechs behind the others is on quad legs and Kieron sees that this mechs is a sniper since it has dual heavy sniper cannons on its back, it deploys them, steadies itself, aims at the mechs at Canterlot, it fires only for the rounds to hit off the Kojima shields which ripple from the impact.

Ponies in Canterlot jump in fright as the mech continues to fires more rounds into the shield, as it barrages the shield, the shield can be seen flexing inwards as the rounds begin to push through the shields. Just then one round manages to push through and hits against the wall below Celestia’s room causing a cave in inside the castle, the shield has a hole ripped in it as it begins to ‘heal the wound’ and the hole starts to close up, more rounds impacts against Canterlot castle causing bits of the wall to fall down onto the streets below crushing many ponies.

“Get that sniper mech, stop it now!” Kieron calls out as two of the drone mechs finish off a SKULL mech and head for the sniper. As they near it a SKULL mech lands right in front of them blocking their path. One of the drones then tackles the mech and engages in battle as the other head for the sniper which turns to face it and fires two Hi-laser shots at it causing it to topple, it gets back up as the sniper takes aim and fire both cannons at it destroying it completely.

Kieron growls to himself as he finally does something, Ambush then suddenly glides forwards towards the sniper, firing some railgun rounds at it and some missiles; this causes the sniper to stumble despite being on quad legs, the mech turns to face Ambush but instead of seeing him at doesn’t see him as he has disappeared, the sniper then activates thermal imaging and spots Ambush strafing to the side before charging at the sniper. Just before he goes to blade the sniper it fires a laser round at him, it deflects off his shields.

As he charges at the mech, it suddenly topples as a couple of rounds blast straight through it, the mechs at Canterlot were still firing upon the battle field. Moonshine and Atom dash over to Kieron who looks down at the mech, they all then stop and look about to see that they are surrounded by SKULL mechs, all of the drone mechs have been destroyed, they didn’t stand a chance. The SKULL mechs that remain encircle them as more crash down to complete the circle, there must be about 15 mechs in total.

“What now?” Atom asks, “I guess the only way to learn would be to go straight into a battle, no?”

“Yes, you’re right. You want to learn? Learn quickly.” Kieron replies as they all look around at the multiple mechs around them. Ambush and Hades then walk to each other so that they are back to back, Moonshine’s mech, Reaper, jumps up and hover above them with both guns facing in opposite directions at the mechs.


<At Canterlot>


In Luna’s room, Luna, Celestia, Treacle Tart and the mane 6 are all stood panicking apart from Treacle who is used to it. 
“What’s going to happen to us?” Rarity calls out in panic.

“I don’t...know. Are we going to die, princess?” Twilight asks as she walks over to Celestia who is sat on the balcony watching the battle.

“No, we are not, Twilight. Please don’t be so negative, all of you. We are not going to die, I won’t let you, and neither will Kieron.” She replies sharply. They both look down towards Ponyville as bright flashes of light and loud noises erupt from above and below them as the sniper mechs keep firing. 

Twilight looks over to where the rounds are hitting to get brief glimpses of the mechs that encircle Kieron and the other as the rounds hit off the mechs and the ground, “Look, princess. Kieron’s losing; all of his mechs are gone.” She comments.
“No, he hasn’t, look.” Luna adds as she points to the mech facility. More mechs start to walk out and rush over to Ponyville. Suddenly multiple loud noises can be heard as flashes of light erupt from the ships above, Treacle dashes out and looks up.
“It’s started. They’ve started the bombardment, and early too.” She says as she sits herself down next to Luna.

As soon as the rounds start to hit against the ground the gun atop of the mech facility begins to open fire on the ships, at the same time the C.O.C and L.R.M.S fire on it. The ships light up as the shells and missiles hit against them. Some of the shots from the HLV Deathwish head for Canterlot as it begin to shell the castle; Mathis overloads the shields as a blue effect makes its way across the shield. The shells hit against the shield but make no effect.

“Yes, the overload works, they’re safe.” Kieron says to himself as he watches the shells hit against the shield but does nothing. The three of them wait as they watch the SKULL mechs stood watching them, Reaper floating above them with guns aimed at two mechs, Ambush aiming at two other mechs and Hades aiming one of his Pulse cannons at a mech with the other arm down by his side with the blade extended. They all watch each other as they’re at a stalemate, then one of the SKULL mechs takes a stop forward cautiously, Reaper turns to see the mech and takes aim of it, Ambush then moves his arm to aim at the mech that Reaper was aiming at before, the mech take another step before launching itself at the trio, Reaper quick boost forwards at it and lands in front of it, ducking down as it trips over it and flips over, Reaper lifts up, turns to the mech in mid-air and kicks it towards Hades as another mech charges Reaper who turns and kicks that mech in the core before shooting a shotgun round straight into causing it to fall back onto the floor.

The mech that Reaper kicked to Hades travels towards him, he turns to it, does a front roll so that he ends up below it on his back, takes a slash at it with his blade and shots it with the pulse cannon launching it into the air, he then digs his heel into the ground causing him to flip over and land on his feet. Another mech goes to take a swipe at him but as he rights himself he tackle the mech into the ground pushing off it to be pushing the air and shoots both pulse cannons at it digging it deep into the ground, he then lands down on it with both blades out piercing them into the core.

A mech runs forwards at Ambush who quickly turns and hits it with his weapon the stabs it with a laser blade, the mech stumbles to the side of Ambush who then kicks it with one of his legs towards Hades who jumps up, lands on it and immediately fires the pulse cannons causing him to be thrown into the air as the mech in slammed into the ground on its back with great force, Ambush then pulls the head off and stabs it with a blade. 

In the air, Hades meets the mech that was pushed into the air, he grabs it, puts it in front of him, stabs a blade into it and then pushes away with a pulse cannon launching it into another mech. Reaper then launches a few missiles in Ambush’s direction only for him to dodge them and they impact against a mech that was charging him. One mech come up behind Ambush and grabs hold of him, putting its arms round him, he can’t move, Reaper then boosts over and  slide tackles the mech causing the two of them to fly sideways the mech still holding Ambush but Ambush manages to get an arm free and reaches over his shoulder and rips the head off, Reaper then grabs at the leg of the mech just as Ambush pulls the arms off him, Reaper them pulls at the leg and pulls the mech off Ambush, throws it into another mech then boosts forwards pushing him into the air so that he lands against another mech causing the mech to fall back onto the ground and Reaper to be stood on top of it.

Hades turns to face a large, bulky mech in front of him which swings for him but he dodges the attack, stabs a blade into it, pulls out then slices an arm off, grabs the dismembered arm and whacks the mech with it knocking it over, he then stabs both blades into the core, he then jumps up just as another mech tries to slice at him. He lands next to it, it swings for him only to miss and he then punches it in the core and fires the pulse cannon launching it towards Ambush who turns and plants a foot into its core, pushing it down against the ground crushing the core.

The three of them then regroup as the remaining SKULL mechs fall back a little to bring their remaining mechs back into one group.

The fighting in Ponyville is still going on, all of the Deathtroopers are dead, a few splattered all up the walls, guts everywhere as Zeldax and one of the guard mechs had ripped them apart, literally. The tank was in flames but the Talons that were in Treacle’s home had fled, tactically, towards the library and took garrison of it; the recruits follow them there and begins to fire at the ‘dug in’ soldiers. One of the guard mechs pushes a recruit aside as it pulls the front door off its hinges and walks in only to be greeted by a Talon who tries to fend it off by hitting his gun off it, the mech swings for him but he ducks down and rolls between its legs and shoots up to hit a joint causing it to go down on one knee, he then jumps on its back and pulls out the wiring from the slightly loose head. The recruits then storm into the building and capture the Talon. They head upstairs only to surprise the remaining Talons who try to put up a fight but surrender as a guard mech bursts in through the balcony doors.

The shielding at Canterlot still holding up as it continues to be hammered by the fire from the HLV Deathwish. The C.O.C and L.R.M.S still firing at it, suddenly the constant fire penetrates the ship’s shields and armour causing it to erupt in flames and the missiles pull it apart and the shells destroy the destroyer. As the bombardment against the ship continues one round finds its way into the engines and damages it causing it to overload and blow up in a huge, blue explosion. The shockwave hits the HLV Rathgahr Fury with great force causing the engines to become damaged, it the starts to descend towards the planet’s surface as it is forced to go planet side.  

It soon reaches the surface but it doesn’t hover above the ground or land softly, instead it crash straight into the ground causing large amount of earth to be thrown up into the sky as it embeds itself into the ground. The ground shakes furiously as it slams into the surface of the planet. 

Ambush turns to face the ship as it crashes into the ground, he then sharply turns to hit a mech in the core knocking it over as it tries to sneak up on him. 

The trio then finish off the last mech as Reaper and Hades both stab it with all the blades they have before letting it drop to the ground in a heap of metal. They then walk up beside Ambush who is stood facing the crashed ship, “Yes, we have finally brought down their ships, one completely destroyed, and the other downed. We shall go and finish off any survivors. For now we have won...that is until he returns.” Kieron comments to the other two. They then begin to make their way over to the downed ship.
