Rainbow Dash and Soarin: A Day in the Life

"Soarin, can you help me? Zoomheart and Skipfly are at it again!"Rainbow Dash yelled as she tried to keep the situation under control.
"Zoomheart, Skipfly, how many times do we have to tell you to stop bickering? This is getting ridiculous," Soarin said as he came down the stairs.
"But Daddy, Skipfly stole my stuffed unicorn! I want it back!"
"Skipfly, don't steal your sister's toys. Now give it back."
"Fine," Skipfly muttered and literally flew up the stairs to his room.
Zoomheart thanked her father then followed the same path as her brother. Up the stairs and to her room.
"Thank you so much, Soarin. These kids just don't seem to listen to me."
"I bet they would if you used the same strength and courage as you did on the day you first met me," Soarin said with a sly grin on his face.
"Don't even talk about it, Soarin. That was so embarassing," Rainbow replied in a complaining tone. She remembered the day she had first met Soarin. She was in a competition to spend an entire day with the Wonderbolts, and she had saved him from plummeting into the grround and dying. She had won the competition for this and she spent an entire day with the Wonderbolts. It was way back then that she had decided she had a crush on Soarin.
"Ok, ok. So, what's Scootaloo up to right now?" Soarin asked.
"Oh, you know her. She's out delivering mail on her scooter for Derpy Hooves"
"Hmm... Well, since Scootaloo's not here, how about we drop the kids off at Twilight's house. I'm sure the kids would like to visit Dawn. Then we can go out on a date night. How does that sound?"
"Oh, that sounds awesome. But where would we go?"
"I had something in mind..." Soarin replied mysteriously.
"It sounds fun. Zoomheart, Skipfly come downstairs!" Rainbow Dash yelled.
"Yes, Mom?"
"Your father and I are going on a date night. You two get to go see Dawn as soon as we call Mrs. Twilight, okay?"
"Yay! We haven't seen Dawn in forever," The twins replied at the same time.
Rainbow Dash dialed Twilight's number and patiently waited for her to pick up.
"Hello? This is Twilight Sparkle."
"Twilight! It's Rainbow Dash," Rainbow said in an enthusiastic voice.
"Rainbow? Omigosh, I haven't heard from you in forever! How are Soarin and the kids?"
"They're great! Actually, I was wondering if you could watch the kids while me and Soarin have some special time together. Oh, and next week too. That's when I'm getting my ultra-sound." Rainbow aked sheepishly.
"Of course, it would be my pleasure, and I'm sure Dawn will be happy to see them too. And actually, Pinkie's kids are over right now too. I'm sure it'll be fun. Just let me ask Thunderlane."
Rainbow heard a stallion's voice in the bakground, and then Twilight picked up the phone again.
"It's an okay! See you in a few!" Twilight said and hung up.
"Okay kids, go grab whatever you want and need to bring, and then we're out the door."
"So she said yes?" Soarin asked.
"Yup. And Pinkie's kids are over there too. It'll be a sort of fun little party for them. Hey, you don't mind leaving a note for Scootaloo on the fridge, do you?"
"Of course not. I'll go write it, and then we can head out."
Soarin walked to the kichen and Rainbow Dash sat down on a fluffy sofa made of clouds. It had been a stressful day full of Zoomheart and Skipfly's bickering. She wished that her kids would get along better.
"We're ready, Mommy," Zoomheart said with a huge smile on her face.
"Okay then, let's go! Soarin, come on. We're leaving now!"
Soarin walked out of the kitchen and grabbed his saddlebag. The family walked out the door, and flew over to the edge of Cloudsdale.
"Okay, kids. You remember how to fly down, right?" Soarin inquired as he spread out his feathery wings and Rainbow Dash did alike.
:"Yes, Daddy," The twins said.
"Okay then. Come on!"
Soarin started flapping his wings first. He jumped off the edge and started darting down to the ground diagonally. Following him first was Rainbow Dash, then Skipfly, and last, Zoomheart.
They all made it down to the ground and screeched to a halt in front of Twilight's treehouse. The twins galloped over to the door and knocked.
"Kids! How are you?" Twilight said as she gave each of them a giant hug.
"We're good," Skipfly replied as he tried to wriggle out of her arms.
"And Rainbow Dash! I haven't seen you in so long. You too, Soarin!"
Rainbow Dash and Twilight exchanged hugs. Dawn, Chocolate Pie, and Jumpstart had heard all the commotion and were now outside playing with Zoomheart and Skipfly. Thunderlane had walked outside too.
"Hey Soarin. How are you?" Thunderlane asked.
"I'm good. How's your job as an accountant working out for you?"
"It's good, it's good."
"Well, I guess we better get going now that hellos have been exchanged. Goodbye, kids!" Rainbow Dash said as she and Soarin started spreading out their wings.
The kids ran over to them and gave goodbye kisses, and then they took off.
"So, what do you have in mind?" Rainbow Dash inquired.
"Well, I was thinking of going over to Pinkie and Carrot Cake's Sweets Shop, and picking up a few treats. I'll tell you the rest when we get there."
"Sounds fair... Race you!" Rainbow said in a childish manner, and then she was off.
They raced for about a half hour before finally reaching the shop. In the end, Soarin won because a gust of wind pushed Rainbow Dash back.
"That's not fair!"
"Is too! It's not my fault luck doesn't like you," Soarin said, trying to contain a laugh.
"Dashie! Dashie, is that really you? Oh hi hi hi hi hi hi!" Pinkie Pie yelled, running to give Rainbow Dash a hug.
"It's good to see you too, Pinkie." Rainbow Dash whispered while smiling.
"Hey Carrot Cake. How you doing?"
"I'm good. And how are you, Soarin?"
""Everything's pretty perfect. I was wondering if I could get a few cloudpuff cupcakes"
"Coming right up. Free of charge."
"Thanks."
Carrot Cake went inside and whipped up a batch of carrot cupcakes while Pinkie and Rainbow Dash got caught up.
"So Dashie, how are the kids? I heard that Skipfly got his cutie mark."
"Sure did."
"So, where exactly are the kids, Dashie?"
"I just dropped them off at Twilight's. Soarin and I are her to pick up some goodies for date night."
"Oooooh. Where's he taking you?"
"He won't tell me..."
"That's a good sign."
"Possibly..."
"I have the treats you asked for, Rainbow Dash. Soarin's in the restroom," Carrot Cake explained, holding a plastic plate full of delicious looking cupcakes..
"Mmmmmmm.. I can almost taste them," Rainbow said, licking her lips.
"I'm here now. Well, we better get going Rainbow Dash. You don't want to miss the best part of the surprise! Come on," Soarin said, taking Rainbow Dash by the hoof. "Bye. It was nice seeing you Carrot Cake. You too, Pinkie!"
"Goodbye Pinkie!" Rainbow yelled, straining to make herself heard, as she and Soarin were already 50 feet in the air.
Rainbow Dash wondered where they were headed. She looked around, and all she saw were trees. Trees, trees, trees. But now something looked familiar.
"Rainbow Cliff? Soarin, this is a great surprise. And it's totally vacant. How did you do this?" Rainbow Dash asked with a surprised tone in her voice.
"I rented it out," Soarin replied with a grin on his face.
Rainbow Cliff is a tourist attraction, the one spot besides right next to the princesses where you can see the aura of colors as the princesses raise and lower the Sun and Moon. Rainbow Dash and Soarin landed on a medium-sized ledge and Soarin pulled out a basket from behind the bushes. Inside there were four daisy sandwiches, and a covered pitcher of Sweet Apple Acres' Sweet Apple CIder.
"Omigosh. I can almost never make it to the line in time to get some of this. How?"
"Stop asking questins, and enjoy. It's all courtesy of your friends. We're also staying the night here so that we can see the Sun rise."
"But what about the kids?"
"Scootaloo is staying with Apple Bloom at her apartment, and the other two are staying the night at Twilight's. Twilight and Apple Bloom both know about their overnight guests, so don't worry."
Rainbow Dash smiled and took the first bite out of her second carrot cupcake. Soarin truly was the best husband ever. Rainbow Dash fell asleep with her head on Soarin's lap, watching the beautiful colors in the sky.
"Wake up, Rainbow. The Sun is rising."
"Really?"
"Yes. The colors are even more beautiful then last night."
Rainbow sat up and found out that Soarin was right. The Moon aura was beautiful, but this... this is what you call undescribable. Patterns of orange, yellow, red, pink, blue, purple, and many others flew across the sky, like a flaming rainbow. Rainbow Dash didn't ever want this moment to end.
"It's perfect, isn't it?" Soarin asked gently.
"It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
"Then you obviously haven't looked in the mirror."
"Oh, Soarin, stop that," Rainbow Dash was only able to just choke out these words before she burst into tears of joy.
"You know I truly love you, don't you?"
"Yes Soarin, I do. And I love you back equally, or maybe even more so."
"I love you."
Soarin and Rainbow Dash stood up, spread out their wings, and took off towards Twilight's house.
"Mommy, Daddy, you're back!" The twins yelled.
"Yep. It's time to go home now, so say goodbye to Dawn."
"Bye Dawn!"
"Bye Zoomheart. Bye Skipfly. It was fun having you over! See you soon!
Soarin, Rainbow Dash, Zoomheart, and Skipfly spread out their wings and flew into the air, towards home.
