The Book

"Alright, Spike! It's time to re-shelve!"

Twilight stood in the center of the Books and Branches library, wearing a smile that could put Pinkie to shame. She knew it was time. She hadn't re-shelved the entire library before without some sort of ground-breaking activity taking place all of a sudden, but today was going to be PERFECTLY fine!

...Or so she thought...

It was a normal Ponyville morning. The sunlight coating the world in a special warmness, the birds singing a soothing melody, the morning dew lingering above the ground. It was as divine as every other day. She had no plans that day surprisingly. There wasn't a word on her calender. No meetups, no work, and no horrifying creatures terrorizing Ponyville. She thought that it would be the perfect day to catch up on some reading, right after she got around to organizing the books in the library.

It wasn't exactly the most exciting thing for a normal pony, but Twilight loved books to much to care. She loved to reminisce on each book she read while re-shelving. The feeling of the paper, the smell of dust infiltrating her nostrils, the memories of stories that captivated her in another world. Each book was physically like the others, but had its own story. A story that made it much different from the others.

"SPIIIIKE!"

Spike came sprinting down the stairs, a clear look of displeasure plastered on his face.

"Jeez, Twilight! This is the fifth time we've tried to re-shelve this week!"

Twilight looked at him with an expression of disappointment before turning around and levitating multiple books off the shelf and stacking them on the floor.

"Spike! You know how I have a busy schedule! Anyway, I'm sure that today will be perfectly fine! These have just been perfect coincidences."

"Yeah, right..."

As Twilight removed each book from the shelf, she placed them onto the hard wooden floor.

"Spike, start placing the books in alphebetical order of the authors' names, please."

Spike then groaned before wobbling over to the small pile of books and sitting down. He placed each book on top of each other ten books high before creating another stack adjacent to it for each author. He continued this with every letter until the stack was done... before Twilight placed another huge stack before him.

Twilight, on the other hoof, flew througheach shelf, making sure each and every book was accounted for. She checked behind shelves, in hidden compartments, and made sure there were no side-ways books lingering on the shelves out of her sight. She may have spent too much time on each shelf, seeing as how Spike kept up with her, but she paid it no mind. Better safe than sorry.

As Twilight removed the last books on the shelves, she double-checked for anything that could be left. She ran to the first shelf she could see before scouring the individual floors of it. All she found was dust. She continued to check every shelf until she was certain she found every book.

"Hey, Spike. You almost done down there?"

Spike stood up proudly before his twenty-six stacks of books. He shot her a quick salute.

"Yep, all done and accounted for!"

Twilight was pleased. She could already imagine sitting with a good book to read by the windowsill.

"Okay, now we have to clean the shelves!"

Spike emitted a small sigh before running off to the kitchen and returning with a bucket of water, a mop, and a few other cleaning utensils. He placed them on the floor before grabbing a duster and an apron. He ran down to the basement before he returned with a wooden ladder. He placed it against the wall before he climbed up and started dusting.

Twilight decided to sort out her personal bookshelf since she only had one ladder. She trotted over to the staircase and climbed up. The sun shined in her face as she walked through the doorway leading into her room. Twilight looked over to her bookshelf before she smiled. That bookshelf contained her favorite books. Sometime, when she stayed up late reading, she would forget to put it in the right order.

She carefully levitated the books off the small shelf and placed them on her bed, not wanting any of them to get remotely damaged. Just like the other shelves, she scoured this one, making sure she didn't find anything unusual.

This shelf was different though.

Twilight's eyes fell upon a small hoof-shaped button in the back of the top shelf. She was completely unaware of there being a button back there before, which confused her. She didn't usually organize that shelf.

Reluctantly, she pushed her hoof against it. As the wooden circle moved into the back of the shelf, a small click was heard. Suddenly, on the layer below, the wood opened up similar to a set of double-doors.

Twilight bent down, trying to figure out what was inside.

Inside was a book.

On the book was a lone star.

Twilight looked at it warily before levitating it out and in front of her face. As the book was removed from the hole, the wood shifted back into place, closing it up like before.

Twilight ignored it and shifted her attention back to the book. It was green, adorned with a lone yellow star. There were no words on the cover. She opened the book.

The inside was unusual. There were no words, just a single line in the center of the page. She flipped the book more, revealing that all the pages were empty. She noticed a pencil attached to the side of the notebook. She took it off and flipped back to the first page.

'This is highly unusual. There aren't any words in here! Where did this even come from? Who did it belong to. What is even the purpose?'

Twilight decided to worry about it later. She then placed the original books back in order. She sat on her haunches on to of the bed, looking down to the notebook. She had no idea what it was used for or why it was empty.

'Maybe it's for checklists. Who knows?'

The notebook opened as a purple aura surrounded it. Twilight stared at the first page. She levitated the pencil originally from the book up to the first page before writing:

Organized bookshelf

She closed the notebook before she heard a poof and a thud. Twilight assumed it was Spike messing around, so she lifted her head.

Only, there was a large, organized bookshelf right in the middle of her room.

"By Celestia's mane..."
