The Tale of Creation

The Creation

Many ponies believe that the tale of the Windigo and the Fire of Friendship ends with the creation of Equestria, but their importance goes far beyond that.

When Clover the Clever’s magic amplified the feelings of peace and friendship the three ponies felt towards each other, a bright, burning fire was made, and the friendship that was its fuel overtook the Windigo and burned them away, at least as far as the tale goes. But, you see, instead the Windigo were changed.

Two of them allowed their hearts to be warmed, for all the hatred to be let go and taken away, allowing friendship into their hearts. The goodness purified them, and the love from the three ponies; Earth, Pegasus and Unicorn; changed them into a combination of the three – an Alicorn. One became a white as the snow she had once created, her mane pink as the clouds when the sun rises. The other became a dark violet like the sky of night, her mane blue as the haze that would hide the moon. They were small, their flanks blank, but their eyes were wise and their minds mature. They looked at each other, gazes clashing – magenta and teal – and they knew they shared a thirst for nothing but peace.

The third Windigo, however, only became enraged by his defeat. The two he had known as sisters betrayed him by becoming good. He would show them. His image began to distort; his face was still that of a pony, but the antler of a dear and the horn of a goat sprouted from his head; he gained the arm of a lion and the claw of an eagle, one of his legs was that of a lizard, the other was a goat’s; his tail had lengthened and appeared to be that of a snake. He had become what was to be known as a Draconequus, a creature known solely for the chaos it created.

The sisters were distressed at their brother’s transformation. Although they had been spirits driven by the hate of others, they had still deeply loved one another. But now they could see their brother hated them as well. His eyes were cold and empty.

The newly made Draconequus shot ice at the two Alicorn; he had always been stronger than they when it came to turning hate to magic. He warned them to run and hide; the next time he saw them would be the last.

The sisters had then run, but with them came the flame of friendship and a hope that they wouldn’t need to destroy their brother to allow others to be happy.

The sisters remained in hiding for the next two hundred years; their brother reigning chaos down on the ponies that had made them. Each spent their time learning about their self and their new magic. They would discover a connection to the Sun and Moon that was from the old unicorn blood. The unicorns that lived in Equestria at the time had lost the connection because of the Draconequus’ take over. The sisters agreed to each take control of one of the bodies and with it a name to exemplify their control. The pink maned sister took the Sun and was from then known as “Celestia”; the meeker sister taking the Moon and the name “Luna”. The moment they took control there was a flash and upon their flanks appeared an image. A small Sun danced gaily on Celestia’s pale posterior; a dark piece of night and a calm and caring Moon covered Luna’s inky rear.

The Fire of Friendship would also change. Over the years it had been growing smaller and smaller, but inside a gem was being forged. The day the fire finally burnt out was the day the Solar Sisters knew that it was time to rid of their brother. From the fire a pink, star-shaped diamond had fallen and the sisters could feel the magic power that was radiating from it. With the gem they would have the power to stop the Draconequus.

It was easy to find him, as he had taken over the old Unicorn palace in Canterlot and had no shame in showing that he was king. Upon their journey the sisters had found that their brother had taken a name – much like they had – and now called himself Discord.

He was waiting for them when they entered and took no time in boating his feats and all the things that he would do to them because they had come back. He did not notice the gem that the two had attached to a necklace that they shared, and ignored them when they announced that they were going to overthrow him and bring back peace to the land.

The Draconequus laughed, but when a spear of magic nearly hit him, he knew his younger sisters were serious. He smiled at them; his sharp teeth gleaming with malicious intent.

The battle between the sides of Chaos and Harmony would rage for months until the long forgotten day of Hearth’s Warming Eve was upon the trio. The day that the Fire of Friendship was made strengthened the sisters and they finally beat down and cornered their brother.

He wanted them to finish him, he didn’t want to live in a world ruled by Harmony. But, no matter how angry the sisters were at him, they could not kill him. Instead they cast him into stone with their magic, hoping that he would never be able to escape the prison as long as ponies walked Equestria.

The ponies cheered the sisters and crowned them as the rulers of Equestria, giving them a palace in the peaceful Everfree Forest. In the lush gardens they placed their stone brother and dedicated a room for the magic gem that had helped them in bringing Harmony to Equestria.

When they removed the necklace they shared to place the gem on its pedestal, the gem glowed and spilt into five new stones. Each of these new stones reacted to various acts of friendship; Honesty, Kindness, Laughter, Loyalty and Generosity. The original stone, however, disappeared. Its true element would not be known for several hundred years, but it would always be known as the most important to the two Solar Sisters.
