//------------------------------// // The last day of Discord's reign // Story: The Last Day of Discord's reign // by the silver-maned pony //------------------------------// This is my first story, so i hope you enjoy! I do not own My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The Last Day of Discord's Reign Equestria is a place of harmony and friendship. There is no doubt about that, but it wasn’t always like that. There was a time long ago that disharmony ruled. That same pony (or draconequus to be more exact) caused disharmony long ago and a recent event a few months ago. His name was Discord, spirit of chaos and, you guessed it, disharmony. During his reign a thousand years ago, Discord loved to create chaos. To him normality and order was the dullest thing to happen to ponies. So he, being the nice guy he is, took over and spread his glorious chaos across Equestria. Let’s just say the occupants were not as thrilled as he was. Thankfully, not all hope was lost as there were two ponies, or alicorns as it were, who fought back. On Discord’s last day of rule, the sky was shining its bright rays on everything it could touch, except for a small village, which was under a brown cloud. Discord sat on his bright green rocking chair, hovering above the village, chuckling as he enjoyed today’s chaos. The village below him was experiencing an unexpected rain of hot tea. Discord made it even more fun by creating a rain able to pass through all the objects, except ponies. He also made it that if anypony screamed for more than 10 seconds continuously, a biscuit will produce from their mouth. It amused him that a pony would be scrambling all around and yelping, trying to find shelter, enjoy a quick snack, and then continue screaming and scrambling. As he leaned back, he produced a piece of parchment and a quill. He wrote “Hot Tea Tuesdays” on the parchment, which was labeled “Slow Morning Chaos”. He snapped his fingers causing the parchment and quill to disappear. He clapped his hands and a golden goblet appeared. He took a sip from it. “Mmmm, Seaweed” Discord said with a smile. The more bizarre the flavor, the better. After a couple of minutes of watching his form of Saturday morning cartoons, his hands started to glow and a paneled window appeared in front of him. It looked like an ordinary paneled window, except that it was a 20x20 paneled window and each panel depicted a different village ‘enjoying’ Discord’s brand of humor. Discord carefully scanned all the panels, trying to figure out which scene of chaos he would want a front row seat for. One panel showed Pegasi with drastically different size of wings. Some so small that they wouldn’t be able to get off clouds, some so big that in one flap of the wings, the Pegasus flies of in break neck speed. Discord measured this in slightly above average entertainment. Another panel showed a village with earth ponies standing still in the middle of their village, occasionally swinging back and forth as though trying to walk without moving their legs. One stallion braved one hoofstep forward. Nothing happened. Feeling slightly braver the stallion took another step forward, which was a wrong thing to do. As soon as his other hoof connected with the ground, a geyser with foul smelling, yellow water (at least the ponies hoped it was water) shot the pony 20ft into the air and then he came crashing down. Every other pony were now too terrified to even move. This was amusing for Discord. One panel showed something not quite funny. A village of unicorns were being attacked be a very angry manticore. Unicorns were panicking everywhere as the manticore howled in rage. Unknown to the unicorns, the manticore was upset because of a thorn stuck on his bum, though of course no pony would be checking there. As a group of unicorns were trying to subdue the beast with magic, the manticore suddenly pounced on them. The group managed to disperse, except for one mare that tripped. Now she cowered in fear as the manticore was approaching her. Discord saw this and with a lazy wave of his hand, the mare was covered in a blue bubble. The manticore’s claw connected with the bubble and instead of popping, the mare was hurled into a side of a house and ricocheted of it unscathed. Discord is many things; tyrannous, conniving, crude sense of humor, but he doesn’t like it when ponies die. After all, if too many ponies die, then there wouldn’t be as many ponies to entertain him. After seeing the unicorn bounce around the village, he got an amusing idea. Discord snapped his fingers and now all the unicorns were incased in blue bubbles. The unicorns now felt relived, thinking that they were now safe, until Discord clapped his hands and 4 more angry manticores appeared. Now the village was filled with the sound of screaming, angry howling, and bouncy balls bouncing everywhere. Discord was laughing loudly at this point. As he continued to skim through the panels, drinking his seaweed, one caught his attention for the wrong reasons. In it, he saw ponies in a village square walking around calmly and talking in normal voices. He did a spit take. “What in the name of me is going on there?” he sputtered. Discord tapped the panel, as though checking the reception. But the image stayed the same. Ponies were just outside doing boring things like walking together and talking together without a care in the world. “Where’s the running? Where’s the screaming? Where’s the stampeding?!? This is just… dull.” He finished in a disgusted tone. Discord snapped his fingers. The small panel expanded until it was a floating wooden door. He could have just made the village more chaotic from where he was at, but decided to show these ponies how to be entertaing first hand. “Looks like I have to show them how fun chaos is,” Discord said with a smile. He drank the rest of his beverage and tossed the goblet behind him, which resulted in an explosion that doused any nearby pony in sea foam. Chuckling darkly, he opened the door and entered. It was now midday in the small town when a door appeared above the town square and Discord came out from it, eyes closed and beaming, waiting to hear the shrieks of frightened ponies. All he heard was silence. He opened his eyes and there were no ponies in sight. “What the heck?” he said confused. It was a ghost town. Not a sound could be heard and every house and building had their doors closed and curtains drawn. Even the fountain that was directly below him was producing not a drop of water. “Oh where are you my little ponies, come out and play.” Discord said in a sing-song voice, twirling around trying to find somepony. After about a minute, he heard hoofsteps behind him and twirled around. The long road that leads to the town square was deserted, except for the two ponies wearing cloaks approaching. Even though they were cloaked, Discord new who those two ponies, or two alicorns as it were, and he smiled mischievously “Well, well, well, if it isn’t solemn Celestia and lonely Luna.” The two alicorns lowered their hoods and showed their faces. The one on the left, Celestia, had a coat as white as clouds, a long, pink, flowing mane, and sporting a sun as her cutie mark. The one on the right, Luna, was slightly smaller, had a light pthhalo blue coat, a light azure mane, and a cutie mark of the moon. The sisters had determined and stern looks on their faces. After 30 seconds of just staring, somepony broke the silence. “Discord, thou have-” Celestia started, but was interrupted by Discord who said “Oh I see, you two set up this whole shenanigan just to get me here, I’m so touched. You could have just sent a letter.” He chuckled and smiled fondly as a parent would when they receive a heart-warming gift from their children. “Thou speaketh as though we enjoy thy company.” Luna said with a note of spite, glaring at Discord. “Well I should assume so” Discord descended slowly to ground level and sat on a rocking chair that appeared out of nowhere. “This is the 7th time we enjoyed each other’s company.” Celestia stepped in and said “As I was saying, Discord, thou has caused mayhem and chaos all across the land.” “And your point is?” “My point is thou must stop this chaos.” Discord rose from his chair, which melted into a puddle of apple juice, and he raised an eyebrow, sporting an amazing arrogant smile. “O.K, let me just get this straight. Are you to asking me or tellingme, because I believe we know what happened last time you told me to stop all the chaos. On that note, how long did it take to remove the porcupine quill from your flanks?” Celestia’s pokerface remained, but Luna looked slightly embarrassed. Discord spotted this and laughed loudly. “I thought so” Discord said with a triumphant grin “And besides, why would you want me to stop all the fun” “Thou call all of this chaos fun.” “Yes, allow me to demonstrate” Discord hands glowed and the sisters’ cloaks ascended above them, the material turned to tree sap, and fell on the sisters. Now covered in tree sap, Celestia remained stoic, but Luna was getting angry and her horn began to glow. Celestia put her hoof on Luna’s shoulder “Peace Luna, remember the plan.” Luna took a deep breath, the magic dissipating and began to relax. Discord’s ear twitched at the mention of a plan. “Now I’m intrigued, what is the fruitless plan you have today? Is it nagging me to death or trapping me in a giant bubble like the last couple of times?” Celestia looked at Luna, they both nodded, and Celestia used her magic and summoned an artifact. It was a golden ring; it had a purple gem in the center with a red, orange, green, blue, and pink gem on the edges of the ring. Discord smiled chuckled heartily “Oh I see, it is bribery this time. How thoughtful of you and how did you know I like shiny trinkets?” Celestia gave a hard look “Discord, this is thy last chance for redemption, stop the chaos.” “And what will happen if I don’t?” He asked innocently. Luna’s horn began to glow; now both sisters were levitating the artifact. “We will force thou to step down.” At this point the town was filled with Discord’s laughter. “HAHAHAHA are you two serious? You really think that thi-HAHAHAHA.” He was now rolling on the road, pounding the ground and drinking to breathe. After 2 minutes of this, he was sprawled on the floor in eagle position, heaved a great sigh, and wiped a tear from his eye. “Oh” He managed to wheeze “I now see your plan, you were trying to make me laugh myself to death. Well, I gave you an A for effort.” He turned his head and saw that the sisters were now shooting daggers at him. Sighing, he got back up to his feet. “Oh fine, I will let you do your silly plan. Let me just get my composure.” Discord cleared his throat and put on a terrified face and said in mock horror “Oh please don’t do this, I have seen the errors of my ways, just don’t do this to me!” he finished and evened got down in a begging position. He looked up grinning broadly. “How was that?” he asked the sisters, who were still shooting daggers. Discord grumbled “Critics.” as he got back up. “O.K. how about if I pose for you” Discord now stood of straight, spread his legs slightly, put his lion’s paw across his stomach, spread out his claw hand, and opened his mouth widely, as though about to sing in an opera. “How’s this?” He said barley moving his lips. Celestia faced Luna “Are you ready?” Luna simply nodded. The two sisters locked horns and closed their eyes. Nothing happened for a while, but then the artifact began to glow, and the air around the sisters began to shimmer. Discord saw this, but didn’t break his pose. He just stood and enjoyed the light show. Suddenly, the sisters started to levitate, opened their eyes, which were now glowing white, and the most colorful rainbow ever erupted from the artifact. The rainbow kept rising farther up until it went spiraling down. Discord was so stunned that he didn’t even move, which prove his downfall. The rainbow hit Discord and his body became rigid. Discord immediately craned his neck downward and saw his lower body was already to stone, and slowly the magic was rising to his chest. He tried to use his magic to fight it, but it was hopeless. Discord seeing this, decided not to go out pitifully, and resumed his pose. “Oh very well done Celestia, you were finally able to stump, but I will be back” the spell was now to his chest and the sisters watched in amazement “maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday I will be back, and when I do, I will show everyone real ‘fun’.” He finished and through his head back and roared with laughter, which was cut short as he magic was now completed. So there stood Discord, evil ruler of Equestria, now a dramatic statue. Celestia and Luna slowly descended the elements of harmony’s power fading. They stared at Discord and then noticed that they were no longer covered in tree sap since Discord’s magic was now also gone from the world. Luna was the first to say something. “Is it done, sister?” Celestia gave the statue a long hard look, and then turned to Luna with warm eyes and a tired smile. “Yes Lulu, we did it. All ponies of Equestria are now free.” Luna was now positively ecstatic, jumping up and down around her sister. Soon the sisters were giving the all clear. Slowly, the doors of the villagers opened. It was all part of the plan. Celestia and Luna stopped all of Discord’s magic from this village and told everypony to act normal and without fear. Some ponies were unsure of this, thinking that Celestia and Luna could never defeat, but the rest of the ponies still had some hope and went with the plan. After a couple minutes of normality, the sisters told the villagers to go into their homes and not to come out until told. Now the entire town was in the square. Ponies looked at the statue, not daring to believe their eyes. Then somepony yelled. “DISCORD IS GONE! WE ARE FREE!” The next second, the air was filled with shouts of happiness and tears of joy. Soon the sisters were lifted up by the ponies and a flash mob was created. Luna was laughing with joy from all the attention and Celestia said loudly. “Everypony spread the news to all corners of Equestria and tell them they are free!” She was responded with cries of glee and saw some ponies disperse from the mob to write many letters to the ponies of Equestria. Celestia gave a small smile, starting to like all the admiration. That was how Discord met his downfall for the first time. Everypony was celebrating for this miracle. There were parties going nonstop for days. Soon, Celestia and Luna, the heroes, were now leading Equestria in an age of harmony and greatness. Everything was great, at least until a truly unfortunate event in which a tough decision was made. But the ponies were unaware of the dangers ahead. They were just in the celebration of the end of Discord’s reign. Best not to spoil their fun.
