My Dream Seems Like A Nightmare

Thoughts stirred through the pegasus’ mind as the brisk wind of the night brushed past her sides, sending shivers down her cyan coat. The stars above her prismatic- mane glistened brightly throughout the night sky. Rainbow Dash laid on one of the few clouds that strayed in the atmosphere. Laying on her back and staring up at the stars. Her head was bustling with thoughts. Thoughts she couldn’t shake off.

Dash had flown away from someone that wanted to help, somepony that just wanted to pull her through the fog that she had become lost in. But of course; due to her natural stubbornness she had declined any source of help. Believing that it’ll make her look weak and pathetic.

“I don’t need any help, just fluff off!”

The words that replayed themselves in her conscious made her eyes burn along with tears. She choked them back, grinding her teeth at her recent actions. She felt terrible, despicable, stubborn, and a little sorry for herself.

Pushing away someone so loving, and loosing maybe her only way of finding a solution. That’s why she felt sorry for herself.

How could I be so stupid.

“Rainbow?” Dash’s ear twitched at the sound of the small voice from below. “Rainbow Dash, where are you? Please come here if you are…it’s so dark out, EEP!”

The cyan pegasus got off her back and peered over the edge of her cloud. Below was a crème and pink pegasus curled up on the ground.

Fluttershy? What is she doing here…ugh, she must‘ve of followed me out here.

Rainbow Dash turned herself around and looked down at the cloud, pawing at it. She couldn't just fly down there after what she did. Though, she did owe Fluttershy an apology.

But, why would she follow me all the way out here, after what I did?

Her wings unfurled as she slowly turned herself back around. Her eyes found themselves staring at the timid mare below her, who was now laying on the grass, looking at the ground.

She’s probably scared out here on her own…

Rainbow stretched out her wings and stepped off the cloud. Flapping her wings to get some more air, she dove forward into a silent glide through the starlit- sky.

Her hooves landed gracefully on the soft grass, and she took a few quiet steps toward the crème coated pegasus. She stood over her and stared, “Fluttershy?”

Fluttershy flinched in panic and turned around to see what, or who had said her name. Her eyes locked with the pink eyes that belonged to the damaged cyan pegasus.

“Rainbow Dash…oh, I was looking all over for you. I was just…so worried about you, and I wanted to make sure you were alright.” Fluttershy let out quietly as she got off the ground, and made her way hesitantly toward the other pegasus.

Dash stared at the ground, avoiding eye contact with her friend. “Why did you come all the way out here Fluttershy?”

The crème pegasus blinked, “Oh…do you not want me here? ‘Cause I followed you because I was terribly worried about you.”

“But didn’t you hear what I said to you before I practically stormed out? How could you just come here after being told your help wasn’t needed?”

Fluttershy stepped back and bit her lip as she glanced down at her hooves, “I-I know what you said. I just thought you were saying it out of anger…”

Rainbow shook her head and trotted off toward the pond. She had nothing to say towards that. She looked down at the water and saw her reflection. Her rainbow mane, pink eyes, and cyan coat.

Rainbow looked up from the water and glanced over her shoulder to see Fluttershy making her way over, slowly, and cautiously.

Dash waited for her to say something, but instead heard nothing but Fluttershy’s hoof steps scrunching up the grass. She felt something brush up against her and a hesitant nuzzle on her neck. Rainbow didn’t look toward the source of warmth, but instead remained standing, and looked up past the pond and into the sky.

A wing laid it self over her back as she continued to stare blankly into the distance.

“Dash, I know you have a lot of choices to make, but you just need to do what you think is best for yourself,” Fluttershy gave her another nuzzle. “If you want to accept the offer you have been given…don’t do afraid to accept it. No matter what you choose, the rest of the girls and myself will always be here for you.”

Rainbow turned her head slowly to face Fluttershy. Her mouth opened slightly and her eyes glassy, “I know ‘Shy. I’m just…scared of loosing the one pony that matters the most to me.”

Dash looked into her marefriend’s eyes and tried to smile, but instead of feeling her mouth turn up, she felt a tear roll down her cheek. Fluttershy gave Dash a hug, and embraced her in all the love she could give to the scared, and worried pegasus.

“You don’t have to be worried about me, Dash. You may become a famous Wonderbolt, but I will never leave your side,” Fluttershy kissed her on the cheek. “You’ve trained far too hard to back down from your dream now.”

Rainbow Dash held Fluttershy tightly as she started to cry. She hated crying, but the tears just came out without stop.

Dash lifted her head, “But…what if everyone drifts apart because I left.” Dash choked out, still holding the crème pegasus.

“I don’t think that’ll happen,” Fluttershy coursed her hoof through Rainbow’s mane. “We’ll probably come and watch you perform, hopefully. Or…if we all can’t make it, I know I’ll be there to watch you perform whenever I can.”

“I…just feel like even though I’m so close to fulfilling my dream, I feel like I’ll be loosing another dream, and that the one I’m achieving will become a nightmare, ‘cause I won’t be here for you and the rest of the girls.” Rainbow explained as she wiped her tears, taking in what Fluttershy said as well.

“You aren’t leaving us behind like that, Dash. We know that you’re going somewhere that you’ve wanted to be since, well…since you were a filly.”

She paused. “Do you remember when we first met, and had that sleepover?” Rainbow nodded into Fluttershy’s shoulder.

Fluttershy continued, “You went on and on about the Wonderbolts, and that one day we’d go and see them together. And…you know Dash, you still need to fulfill that promise.”

Dash lifted her head from the crème shoulder and sniffled, “I understand what you’re saying, ‘Shy. And I hope I get to make that promise happen. You deserve it, for being an amazing friend toward me, and…I’m seriously sorry for what I said back at your cabin. I hope you can forgive me Fluttershy.”

Rainbow felt a kiss on her forehead, making her feel warm and fuzzy inside as Fluttershy spoke, “You’re forgiven Dash. But, I um…think we should both be going back home now. It’s not safe to be out so late.”

Good Ol’ Fluttershy and her fear of the dark.

“Oh, of course Fluttershy.” Rainbow let go of the crème pegasus and began to slowly trot toward home, and stopping by the edge of the trees, turning around to face Fluttershy.

“Come on I’ll walk you home.”

Fluttershy trotted up to Rainbow Dash and joined her by her side to make their way back home, together.
