Afterthoughts

War

This can’t be happening. The bombs are falling, and the soldiers are marching, but why? How could a place so peaceful turn so hideous in just a matter of days? They’re taking out thousands by the hour, and for what? A simple piece of land. A name that is known throughout the land, no matter the conditions. Just to watch the chaos…

I watched as they ripped my friends apart and separated them from me. I watched as they barked cruel orders, and shot those too weak to work and those who defied them. I watched as they tortured my friend mercilessly, just to watch her squirm, and then laugh as they broke her delicate soul. I watched the peace fade. I watched the world collapse beneath my feet. I watched as the gears of war began to turn marking the beginning of the end…

… the takeover of peace and serenity in our day…

The bastards took everything they could, stopping only to crush any underlying hope that remained. They left only my broken soul and my tattered body. The war is over, and the survivors are far and few in between. Those who didn’t decide to release their consciousnesses with suicide are still afraid of the ever spreading darkness of hatred. Of the structures still standing, many were on the verge of collapse.

The happy faces that once filled the streets are gone. The joyful celebrations and parties thrown long ago are gone. The landscape is burnt to the ground, completely unrecognizable. The happiness and pride have faded away like dust blown in the wind. The once bustling society is but a distant memory now. The soul of the entire community is gone. Nothing survived the plague of war; nothing is left to live for…

…that’s why I’ve decided to stop living…

“War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing…”
