//------------------------------// // A Day, A Chance and A Bottle of Shampoo // Story: Shared Love // by Jensettiman //------------------------------// A Day, A Chance and A Bottle of Shampoo It was a beautiful afternoon in Ponyville. Bright and chilly. The snow was lying all over the grassy fields, plowed off the paths and roads. Some birds were singing, other were chirping. Ponies around the area had acquired their scarfs and boots, trying to make the winter atmosphere more comfortable to walk around in. One of those ponies were Wired Fix, a white unicorn colt with a matte gold mane and tail, and amethyst purple eyes. He was wearing a long, green scarf with stripes of lighter green. Wired had decided to take a walk outside, enjoying the clear weather. He smiled as ponies waved to him and wished him a good day. Life in Equestria could simply not get much better. That was until he stumbled upon Midnight. Midnight was a light grey unicorn filly with a dark grey mane and tail, both straight and with white ends. Her eyes were blue as sapphires. She was also going for a walk, enjoying the fresh air. She noticed Wired from some distance, smiled and waved. “Good afternoon, Wired!” she said and trotted over to him. “Oh, hello Midnight,” he replied with a smile. “You out for some fresh air too?” “That’s right,” she smiled back. “Gotta enjoy it while it lasts, you know.” They both chuckled. “I was heading for the park, Midnight,” Wired said. “Would you like to tag along?” “Sure,” she replied with a warm smile and walked up next to him. They both trotted away to the park near the Town Hall. On the way, three other colts, all unicorns, smiled and nodded in the two ponies’ direction as the two groups passed each other. “Old classmates from the Elementary of Canterlot,” Wired said and chuckled. “I take it they gave you good memories?” Midnight asked as they walked through the gate to the park. “They sure did,” he answered. “We had a good amount of laughs, the five of us. You didn’t see the fifth one, she lives in Canterlot still.” “Oh?” she asked with interest. “What kind of fun things did you do?” Wired chuckled for himself before looking at Midnight. The only thing he said was “Naughty stuff.” Midnight laughed by the answer, thinking he was just joking. “What kind of ‘Naughty stuff’ did you do, then?” she asked. “Did you for instance put tacks on the teacher’s chair?” “Haha, nope!” Wired replied with a good laugh. “To say it like it is, you don’t want to know.” Midnight chuckled and said “That bad, huh?” before they reached a bench. She lit up her horn, melting away the snow on the planks before she sat down. Wired followed after and sat down next to her. The two of them sat like that for a while before they looked at each other. “Do you want to do something?” Midnight asked. “Or do you just want to sit and enjoy the fresh air and clear weather?” Wired looked at her with a smile. “I don’t know,” he said. “Do you have any ideas?” “Well,” she started. “You could come over to me, and we could have some hot chocolate?” “Sounds good to me,” Wired replied and stood up. But he had a few problems getting his legs in motion. “Do you need any help?” Midnight asked. “I just need to start exercising,” Wired replied with a slight laugh. “I am a couch potato.” Midnight chuckled with him and led the way to her house. It was a bit outside Ponyville central, nice and quiet. As they approached the house, snow started to fall down from the sky. Wired felt the tickle of a snowflake on his muzzle before Midnight unlocked the door and let him in. The space she lived in was open, yet not huge. It really made Wired feel comfortable. It was almost like he had dreamed of living, with the only exception of some paintings, not his style. “You can just go and lie down on the couch,” Midnight said. “I’ll make the chocolate while you wait.” Wired nodded, took off his scarf and hanged it on the coat stand before he headed into the living room. “It sure looks comfortable,” he smiled before he lay down on it. “Mmh~” He could not but feel he had come to just the right place. Midnight was a good friend, no doubt. After a few minutes, the light grey filly came into the room with two smoking mugs. “Take one,” she said with a warm smile and sat down next to him on the couch. “Nah, I’ll take four!” Wired replied jokingly, chuckling before he sat up and levitated one of the mugs up to his mouth. The content smelled sweet, and as he took a sip of the beverage, a smile formed on his muzzle. “Do you like it?” Midnight asked with a smile. “I certainly do,” Wired smiled back. “It’s sweet, but with a tiny hint of bitter, like coffee. I like it.” He took another sip. Midnight took a sip of her mug and moved a little closer to her friend. Wired moved a little closer himself, and looked at her. He ran his left hoof through her mane, ruffling it a little. “You have a nice and soft mane, Midnight,” he said. “Did you just wash it or..?” “Yeah,” Midnight replied. “I do it every morning and before I go to bed.” Wired smiled sweetly and looked into her eyes. “That is a good way to treat one’s coiffure,” he said. “Maybe I should too.” Midnight chuckled and moved her hoof from his shoulder and through Wired’s mane. “You have a beautiful mane,” she smiled warmly. “Aww, thanks,” he smiled and blushed. “I comb it every now and then…” “If you want to, I could wash your mane,” she smiled and nuzzled his mane a little. “Oh, I couldn’t ask that of you,” Wired answered before taking another sip of chocolate. Midnight smiled warmly and drank a bit more. “But I would do it if you want,” she said. “Well…” Wired responded with a warm smile. “Okay, you can do that. You seem to be good with hair.” She smiled and blushed a little. “Maybe I am,” she chuckled. Wired chuckled too. He turned around facing her and moved closer, right up to her, before holding a hoof around her. “You’re so nice to me,” he smiled. “Heh, you’re a good friend,” she smiled warmly at him. “So are you,” he smiled sweetly before giving her a hug, while Midnight brushed through his mane softly. “Mmh~ you smell good.” “Like what?” she chuckled, thinking he sensed her apple shampoo. “Sweet,” Wired said. “And fresh, like Sweet Apple Acres’ orchards.” He giggled slightly. “Heh, thanks!” she smiled widely. “Would you like that shampoo too?” “Well, if it would be no trouble,” he smiled and nuzzled her mane. “Although, I’m more of a citrus type, like limes and lemons.” He chuckled. She blushed. “Well…” she started. “I’ve got all sorts, from apples, over citrus and towards to fresh roses.” “Mmh~” he smiled as he continued to nuzzle her mane. “You’ve got more than enough. The apple one is perfect for you.” “Thanks,” she smiled. “You’re so kind.” “That’s what friends are for,” he replied. She nodded and smiled by his nuzzling. “You’re sweet, do you know that?” he smiled as he leaned away and looked into her eyes. She looked back into his. “Thanks…” she blushed. Wired stroked through her mane. “I can see why you’re taken,” he continued. “That colt sure is lucky.” He smiled sweetly. “Come,” she said. “Let’s take a shower!” She grabbed his hoof. “Oh, okay…” he replied a little unsure, but smiled and followed her. The light grey filly led her friend into her bathroom. It was larger than Wired had expected, and in the end was a shower big enough to easily fit two ponies inside. “You first,” Midnight smiled. Wired blushed, but stepped inside. She stepped in right behind him and lit up her horn, turning on the water. Wired jumped slightly with what felt like a jolt going down his spine. “Ah!” he exclaimed. “That was cold..!” “Yes,” Midnight replied. “But it should get warmer about now.” As soon as she gave him a reassuring smile, her prediction was correct. The warm water poured down on both of them, and she started to wash her mane. “Yeah, there we go.” Wired smiled before starting to rub his own. After some time, Midnight took a citrus shampoo down from a shelf. “Let me help you,” she smiled and rubbed it in. First in his mane, then in his coat before going for his tail. The soothing tickle of lemon scented suds calmed Wired down, helping him realize his stress was slowly fading away. “Mmh~” he moaned in pleasure, enjoying the treatment. Midnight used well ten minutes to make sure she distributed the shampoo perfectly onto her friend’s body, but he didn’t mind taking a long time. Instead, he just smiled and adored her, feeling better for each minute passing. In the end, she moved from his tail to his hindlegs, and rubbed it in well before taking a deep breath and lifting a bottle of apple shampoo down from the shelf. “Here, let me help you out,” Wired said with a smile and took the bottle from her. “It’s the least I can do.” She smiled and nodded. “Sure.” Wired smiled and squirted out a generous dab, which he rubbed into her coat thoroughly, but delicately. “You’re good at this,” she smiled, enjoying the procedure. “Thanks,” he answered with a blush. “This is my first time washing somepony else, so I’m glad you enjoy it.” He moved over to her tail. She lifted it a little to help him. With long, gentle strokes, he worked the shampoo into the collection of hair strands, forming a gorgeous tail. “You really are good at this,” she smiled. “Oh, it’s nothing,” he replied, smiling sweetly. “Just proper care of tails…” He finished the tail and moved up to her head, turning the two of them face to face as he worked the liquid through her mane. Midnight looked into her eyes while he did so, smiling a lot. He smiled sweetly and looked deep into her eyes, and kept massaging the shampoo into her coiffure. But after some time, he moved his hooves gradually slower. “You’re slowing down…” she said, tilting her head slightly. “Are you done?” She smiled lovingly at him. “No…not quite…” Wired answered with an unsure sound in his voice. “I was just… entranced by your beauty. You have a loving character. And loveable.” He started moving his hooves again. “You’re really cute, is what I’m saying,” he said before closing his eyes. “Aww~” she replied with a warm smile. “Thanks, Wired… You really are cute, and more than nice.” She closed her eyes, enjoying the rubbing again. He opened his eyes again with a smile. “Thanks, Midnight,” he replied. That means a lot.” He took his hooves away from her mane and down to her shoulders. “Now, I’m sure your mane should be nice and clean. I’ve worked the shampoo thoroughly through it.” She nodded. “You did great work,” she said before turning the water on again, which slowly washed off the shampoo. “Thanks, so did you,” he smiled sweetly. Midnight decided to rub Wired’s body gently to help remove the shampoo. “Hey, could you also scratch my back?” Wired asked nicely. “It’s really itchy.” Midnight nodded with a smile and did so, also gently. “Ahh…” he sighed in relief. “That’s the spot, thank you!” Midnight giggled, and kept scratching while the water was still pouring down. “Okay, I’m fine,” he said and turned around to help her get the apple shampoo off, like she did to him. He lifted her mane a few times to make sure the residue was gone, before she turned around to let him wash the tail. Gently running through her tail, he used some time to wash out the last remains of shampoo. “Mmh~” she smiled widely as he washed out the last of the apple-scented cleaner. She then turned off the water. “We’re done,” she smiled warmly. “Well, that was certainly a nice experience,” he replied with another sweet smile. “You did a good job, I really enjoyed every second of it.” She smiled and walked out of the shower, levitating two towels. “Here, let me dry you,” she said. Wired chuckled and came out of the shower himself. Midnight started drying him, gently rubbing his coat before moving on to his mane and tail. He smiled a little by the towel’s softness. “Such a good towel,” he said. “Where did you get it?” “A friend made it for me,” she answered. “It’s so soft, isn’t it?” She smiled when she finished drying him, and levitated over a comb, running it through his mane and tail gently. “Mine are like sand paper compared to yours,” Wired laughed. “You can have one, if you want,” she smiled while combing his tail. “It’s fine, I can just go and buy a new one. But thanks for the offer!” He smiled sweetly as he levitated the other towel to dry Midnight. She smiled as he started rubbing her body dry. “You’re a really good friend, Wired…” she giggled. “Thanks.” He smiled before leaning forward and giving her a kiss on the cheek. “I’m doing my best,” he chuckled. She blushed a little by the kiss. “I know,” she smiled. “I’m lucky to have you as my friend,” Wired giggled. “As am I,” Midnight smiled, enjoying his drying. Wired moved on to drying her tail gently, which by the looks of it, she also enjoyed. “You enjoying this?” he asked. “It’s good, yeah,” she smiled. Wired chuckled. “I would only give you what you deserve,” he continued before holding the towel in his hooves and drying her mane. She closed her eyes while he ruffled up her mane, chuckling a little. “You are my best friend. And I…” he sighed. “I love you. When I have the chance, I’ll treat you as best as I can. Like the most precious thing in Equestria. Because you are to me…” He giggled, blushing deeply, feeling really stupid for saying so much. Instead of saying anything, Midnight looked through a gap in the towel which hung before her eyes and moved her head closer to his, kissing him shortly on the lips. The response was surprising to him. Completely unexpected. But he kissed back, showing how true all he’d told her was. Midnight smiled. “You really love me, huh?” Wired smiled back. “Yes, I do.” “Wow…” She looked a bit to the floor. He looked a bit to the side. “I… understand if you don’t… quite feel the same…” he said slowly. “As you know… I’m engaged…” she replied. “I don’t want to hurt your feelings…” “No, no…” Wired replied quickly. “It’s fine. Like I said, I understand. But I’m still thankful that you accept my feelings.” She nodded and looked at him again. “C-can you finish drying me?” she smiled. “Yeah, sure,” he said before continuing rubbing her mane. Midnight smiled as he did. “Midnight..?” he asked. “Could you please… not tell your partner about this..? Of course, unless you’re sure he’d understand. I just don’t want to make any problems…” He had a slightly worried look on his face, combined with what seemed like he felt broken. “I won’t tell him anything,” she answered. “But don’t look so sad…” She looked worried at him. “I’m fine…” he replied, yet still with some of the same look. “He loves you, you love him. You’re engaged. Fair is fair.” “But I hurt you, right?” she sighed sadly. He sniffed. “A little…” “I would do anything to make you feel better...” “What makes me happy is you being happy,” he smiled and wiped a tear. “That’s the most important to me.” “I am happy…” she smiled. “Then I’ll be fine,” he smiled back. “That’s good to hear…” she smiled in relief. The two of them chuckled as Wired finished drying Midnight’s mane. He put down the towel and looked at her. “I want you to answer a question for me…” he said with an attempted neutral look. “If it’s not too heavy.” She looked back at him. “Yes, what is it?” she asked. “I know you’re engaged…” he started before clearing his throat. “But the passion you put in the kiss… It made me wonder. Do you love me?” Midnight blushed a little. “I do like you more than as a friend…” she replied. “Yes. I do.” Wired lightened up a bit, ears perking up. “That is so sweet of you,” he smiled sweetly. “Thanks.” He levitated a comb and began moving it through Midnight’s tail. She smiled and enjoyed it. “I hope we can do something like this again sometime,” he smiled. “I’m having a good time here with you.” He checked her tail for knots and split ends. “Of course we can!” Midnight exclaimed with a smile. “I’ve got a lot of different shampoos. We can try them all!” She twitched a little as Wired undid a knot in her tail. “Hehe, neat,” Wired giggled before he moved over to her mane. “But if he found out, what would you tell him?” he asked while he combed her mane gently. “I’d tell him you asked me how I get my fur and mane so soft,” she replied with a smile. “And I just showed you. He will understand it.” She looked at him. “We didn’t do anything else, right?” “Not that’s of importance to him, at least,” Wired smiled. “The rest remains for our eyes only.” She nodded and smiled. “Do you want your mane in a specific style, or shall I just make something simple?” he asked. “I like my previous one the best,” she chuckled. “As you wish… sweetie~” he giggled and swapped the comb for a brush, working it through Midnight’s coiffure in a straight, repeated pattern. “Thanks,” she chuckled. As he brushed her mane, Wired kept looking deeply into Midnight’s eyes, smiling at the thought of what she had said and done for him. She looked back in his eyes, also setting up a warm smile. Wired removed the brush to take some time to admire Midnight. “It’s done,” he smiled. “Hope you like it!” He pointed towards the mirror. As she looked into the mirror, a wide smile formed on her muzzle. “And how I like it,” she cooed. Wired walked over to Midnight and put his hooves on her shoulders. “Glad it turned out how you wanted,” he smiled. She nodded. “Yeah… I hope you liked the shower!” she smiled and took a deep sniff of his mane. “I sure did,” Wired chuckled and smelled the shampoo. “I had never thought showering with another pony would be so cozy! Honestly, I thought it would just be awkward…” She smiled. “Well, I guess that was a surprise then, huh?” “Yeah,” he smiled before nuzzling her mane again. “You are smelling good~” she giggled. “So are you~” he replied with a coo. “Now that we are clean…” Midnight started. “Any ideas what to do?” “Play in mud to have an excuse for another shower?” Wired asked jokingly, chuckling. “If you want to,” she smiled. “I’d have nothing against it.” Wired laughed with a wide smile. “I was joking, dear.” “Well,” Midnight said. “Then we’re back at the start. Anything else you want to do?” “Well, are you hungry?” Wired replied. “Because I feel like making something for the two of us.” He smiled sweetly. “That would be nice, yeah,” she smiled warmly. “Neat,” he smiled. “I’ll just go out into the kitchen and see what I can make. You can go into the living room and rest if you wish. Or you can help me.” “I think I’m going to rest…” she answered and nuzzled him a little. “Do so,” he smiled and nuzzled her back. She nodded and walked over to the couch. “I’ve got pretty much here,” she called. “I hope you can make something good.” She smiled as she lay down on the couch and spread her legs away from her body. “My mum was a good cook,” he called from the kitchen. “I have picked up a few tricks. We’ll see what I decide to let it evolve into.” With that said, Wired began examining the cupboards and drawers, lifting out ingredients as he found them. He lined them up, one by one, on the counter. Jars of sauces, fresh vegetables and boxes of spices… It was a rainbow of flavours. After a minute or two, he looked over what he had verified. He now knew what to make. The gas was opened on the stove, and a frying pan was heated up along with a splash of vegetable oil. The white colt chopped up vegetables into strips and tossed them into the pan. At the same time, he poured thoroughly chosen spices into a small glass jar, which he put the lid on and started shaking. Midnight smiled before she got up. She trotted into the bedroom, and came back a while later, lying back down on the couch and resting her head on a pillow. “What are you cooking?” she asked in a calm matter. “What my sister used to call fodder,” he replied. “It’s basically fried vegetables with my mum’s special spice blend.” As he finished his last sentence, he tossed the powder into the pan, which let out a fireball from the pan. Midnight sat up on the couch and looked out into the kitchen. “What was that?” she asked with a curious look. “You can say it’s proof I mixed the spices correctly,” Wired called from the kitchen with a chuckle. “Alright!” she chuckled before she put on some socks on her four hooves, shivering a little. Wired peeked out from the kitchen, fixing his eyes at his friend, sitting there and with her socks. “Theehee~” he giggled. “Now you’re even cuter!” “Thanks,” Midnight chuckled. Wired headed back into the kitchen and finished the “fodder”, which he put on two plates. He garnished it with some shredded cheese and levitated the two plates into the living room. Carefully he put the meal down on the table. “Here you go,” he smiled sweetly and sat down on the opposite side. “Hope you like it!” The light grey filly lifted her fork and took an amount of the meal up to her mouth, chewing it slowly to let the tastes come forth. “Mmh~” she smiled big. “It was my favorite dish when I was just a foal,” Wired smiled and took a chomp himself. “And I hope to bring it on to my kids… If I ever get any.” He chuckled. She nodded and took another bite. “Ooh, that’s delicious…” Wired smiled sweetly, as always. “Nice to hear you enjoy it!” He got up on all four and went out into the kitchen. The faucet let out a fall of cold water into a mug, which was carried back into the living room along with two glasses. “I thought maybe you’d like something to drink,” he smiled and poured the water into the two glasses. “Oh thank you,” Midnight nodded and took a big gulp of water. “Lot of oil, salt and spice,” Wired continued. “Might bring up the need for water.” She nodded and continued eating. The meal was eaten without any further comments. After several minutes, he finished his plate and put down his cutlery, letting out a sigh. “Now, you feeling good?” he asked and smiled before taking another sip of water. Midnight finished shortly after. “Wow,” she started. “That was delicious…” “I’m glad you think so,” he smiled and tilted his head. “It’s not every day I cook for others. And this is the first time I cook for somepony I… Yeah, you know the rest.” She nodded and lay back on the couch, curling up a little. “That was really good~” she said again. “Now some minutes of rest, and the day is nearly perfect…” “Allow me to help you relax,” Wired said before coming over to the couch and lying down next to Midnight. He held a hoof around her, and ran the other through her mane. “Thanks…” she smiled warmly and nuzzled a little into the arm around her, enjoying his hoof brushing through her mane. “You deserve as much love and care as you can get, sweetheart,” he smiled. “When your partner is not around, I can step in and care for you my way.” He chuckled by the thought. “Thanks,” she smiled and closed her eyes slowly, nuzzling into his arm. Wired kept cuddling her and stroking her mane for several minutes. “Mmh~” she moaned in pleasure as she cuddled more into him, hugging him with her hooves. The soft socks stroked his fur. “Mmh~” he said back. “Cute pony, soft, newly washed mane and soft socks… If this is a dream, I don’t want to wake up.” He stroked her cheek and looked at her adorable face. The white colt sighed. “This is no dream,” Midnight smiled and cuddled more into him. “Even better,” Wired replied with a smile. She pressed her nose against his chest and closed her eyes again. As she did, he moved his hooves around her head and held her tightly while nuzzling the top of her head. She moved her nose a little in his chest, and her breath slowed down. He took notice, and understood she had slowly fallen asleep. “Hehe,” he chuckled. “Good night, my love. It’s been a long day.” He closed his eyes and drifted away slowly, yet still holding around her. As he heard a deep exhale from Midnight, Wired knew for sure she had fallen completely asleep. He moved “down” on the couch, wrapped his hooves around her chest and shifted his tail over their flanks. Midnight’s head dropped down on the pillow. “Aww~” he whispered. As he smiled sweetly at her, Midnight moved her hoof up to her face. Sensing the sock touching her lips, she bit and pulled a little on it. “How cute, trying to eat her sock…” he smiled before he removed the sock from her teeth gently. She licked her lips twice, and nuzzled her head in her hoof a bit, but then went back to silently sleeping. Wired levitated his glass to his lips, taking a sip of water before putting it back, stroking Midnight’s cheek and finally falling asleep.
