NightLife: Bite Mark Bound

by Shadow Spirit

Prologue: The Plan *Slightly Altered*

Princess Luna sighed to herself as she placed her crown on the desk. She looked around at her room in the Castle Corridors. In the center of her room was an unnecessary bed, but she had to have it there so it looked like she slept. Behind the bed was a huge window looking over Canterlot, and it let to the balcony. As Luna stared outside at the beautiful night, she let her thoughts wander.
How things have changed here. The Naturals seem to know nothing about the Nightlife. Her thoughts were interpreted by a quiet knock on the door. The lunar princess tore her eyes from the window, checked the clock, and went to answer the door.

"Excuse me, Princess, but we have a slight problem." A navy blue Night guard said hesitantly. He had been a little shy ever since he joined the Nightlife. He stood tall, almost eye level with the princess,

"Yes, Sharp Spear? What has happened this time?" Luna asked cautiously. Sharp Spear was supposed to be with The Pack right now hunting; what was he doing?
"Well, Starry Wings is on a feasting right now... S-so the guards were wondering if we should c-capture or eliminate her." Sharp Spear stuttered a bit, but presented the information nonetheless. He shifted nervously.
“Starry Wings, the newest Vampony, I suppose?” Luna asked with a slight tone of exasperation. She mentally groaned, tired from the day`s events. It had been about three weeks ago when Nightmare Moon came back to Equestria. Twilight and the other bearers of harmony had been able to banish Nightmare for a time; but Nightmare was back inside of Luna`s mind now. Luna had to fight constantly with the dark demon that had slipped inside her mind, so many years ago.

Luna thought about what to do about Starry Wings. She did join the Nightlife only about a week ago; so it was not her fault that she could not yet control her thirst. Still, it might grab the attention of Celestia if it got out of hoof. She sighed silently again. I have been home for awhile now, and the Nightlife still celebrates.
"How many have been turned?" Princess Luna asked her newest guard, who was standing silent as a ghost, not even breathing. Luna would have chuckled at this thought, if the situation was different. He was far from that type of Nightlife.

"About thirteen have been bitten and turned. Five others were drained completely, your majesty." Sharp Spear replied quietly, as it was no matter to be taken lightly. He was staring at the floor, a habit some Marewolves seemed to have when talking to somepony with more authority than them.

Luna gasped, her pupils dilating. Her wings flared up, and her teeth sharpened. Sharp Spear winced, but otherwise stood his ground.
Luna breathed slowly, fighting for control. Eighteen ponies that will appear dead or missing will certainly draw attention to the Nightlife. All of them gone in a single night would alert Celestia, and she would become suspicious. Starry Wings could not be doing this by herself; perhaps The Ancients had something to do with it. But if The Ancients were here in Equestria…

"Where are Starry Wings victims?” Luna said with sudden determination. If The Ancients found the Spirits of Harmony, all of Equestria would be at stake.

"Ponyville is where every star appeared.” Sharp Spear stated without question, slightly nodding his head towards the Star Gazers` headquarters.

Luna was silent, barely breathing. Finally she asked with deathly quiet, “Was Twilight Sparkle given… the curse?”

“No, princess, Twilight and the others are safely being guarded by The Pack.” Sharp Spear himself was part of The Pack; he actually was the Alpha.

Luna sighed, but this time with relief. “Hunt down Starry Wings and attack. But be careful, I fear she may not be alone.” Luna cautioned the Night Guard. Sharp Spear nodded slightly, and began to back off when Luna spoke again.

“Before you attack, please send a letter to Twilight Sparkle and tell her to meet me at Everfree Forest tomorrow night. I think it is time for the Change.” Luna spoke softly, her eyes closed.
Sharp Spear gasped, and looked up at his Princess with shock. He seemed to think this could be taken as a sign of aggression, and immediately looked back downwards.
“As you wish, princess; The Pack and I will take care of it.” Without another word, Sharp Spear`s coat began to blend and stretch; his nose and mouth narrowed to a muzzle with pointed teeth. Soon Sharp Spear was full Marewolf, and he ran out of the corridors, jumping through an open window and into the night below.

Luna closed the door with a soft click, her head resting on the door frame. The time had finally arrived. And Luna wasn’t sure if she was ready.
