Friendship is like a Teapot

by TheTwerp

"We're still friends...Right?"

"So she kicked you out?"

"Yea..."

*Snort*

"Well ah would'a done the same!"

"I know..."

"Breaking her stuff! What were'all thinkin?"

"It was a bit mean Rainbow."

"I said I was sorry..."

The sun was setting and as it was lowered off the celestial plane a spectrum of gold and violet hues seeped across the sky. Rainbow Dash sat upon a cloud staring out into the rich gold, it was showered with the twinkling stars that only the on-coming night could bring. With a dejected sigh she began to replay the events of the day inside her head once more.

It had started so well too.

Whilst nuzzled in her cloudbed the young pegasus had spent the entire night wrapped in a dreamscape of high flying, death defying stunts that shamed even the impressive Wonderbolts. So much in fact that they made her a member of the team. After she had saved them all from a rampaging dragon of course.

As she banked down from another one of her trademark Three Feather-Shuffles she could hear the roar of the crowd.

"Oh Rainbow Dash you were so brave!"

"Please bear my foals!"

Bringing herself into a hover over the fawning public she began to bow and wave to her loving audience.

"Thank you! Thank you!" She bellowed over the din of praise. "I love you all! However, I want you to know that the awesome Rainbow Dash has eyes for only one pony!"

Settling down in front of a tall stallion adorned in a tight flight suit, she parted the sweat drenched multi-hued locks that plastered her face.

"Hello Soarin." She uttered with a purr. He merely smiled and winked back at her. Cantering up to him she brushed a dark tangle of mane out of his face as she pulled him into a sloppy kiss.

Far to soon though the roar of the crowd was replaced with the chirping of morning birds, the gorgeous stallion became a fluffy cloud before disintegrating into a brilliant sunburst of light and colour. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she lamented that the dream couldn't get any further. Grabbing a quick hay sandwich and soda she had begun her early morning chores of cleaning the sky. Once the chores were done and she had checked that no other obligations wee expected of her, Rainbow Dash began her plan for the rest of the day.

First stop, Rarity.

Of course that's as far as she got with the plan seeing how it all went wrong with her dainty friend.

Turning away from the oncoming moonrise Rainbow Dash flopped onto her belly as she began to eye Ponyville. She could feel the wind pick up speed as it tussled her mane, waving a prismatic flag in the sky. The sun completed its descent and the silver orb which in ages past was known as The Watchtower rose up the skyline drawing deep violets and blues into the seams of the cosmos.

Despite the nights cool blue shadow encasing the land many ponies were still out and about. From her lofty vantage point she found her gaze being drawn back to the place where her friend lived.

"Get out Rainbow. Get out before I get my hooves on you..."

*Sigh*

"She was really mad..."

Forcing herself to look away she spied her friends Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Applejack entering the Mushroom Plaza café. Rising off her fluffy cloud she shot off toward them seeing this as a great opportunity to talk to her other friends about what happened at the fashionista's home.

"Well saying your sorry wus a good start but ah don't think it's gonna cut it this time sugarcube." Applejack uttered around the carrot salad she was munching on.

"I don't get it though! Last month I broke all the glass in her house when I did that sonic rainboom! She was less mad about that than how mad she was today." Rainbow said dejected.

"Well maybe she has just had enough." Applejack snorted.

"I didn't mean it though." Rainbow sank low in her seat.

"Aw, come on Dash." Twilight Sparkle lowered her daisy sandwich before sidling up to the depressed pegasus. "Its not that bad."

"Yes it is." The cyan pegasus mumbled into the surface of the table.

Fluttershy moved her potato salad out of the way when she reached for a blue hoof. "Rainbow you know how Rarity gets when she is stressed." Patting the hoof gently she continued. "Well Rarity has been working all week to fill so many orders, I haven't seen her this tense since the Grand Galloping Gala."

"So what should I do?"

"Just give her some time. You're one of her best friends Rainbow." Fluttershy issued a calming smile as she collected the food again.

"Eeyup, just'd leave her alone for ah few days, then go back and apologize. You'all see, she won't stay mad forever." Applejack patted Rainbow on the back as Twilight nodded cheerfully.

"Okay, but seriously though what got her so mad this time?"

Stopping Twilight brought a hoof to her chin in a thoughtful gesture. "Well you said she was mad when you broke the plates but only got really mad when you broke that teapot."

"Yea...so?"

"So what if the teapot was really valuable."

"That thing? But it was hideous!" Rainbow exclaimed.

"That's not the point Rainbow." Fluttershy scolded.

"Yes Rainbow, just because it was ugly to you doesn't mean Rarity didn't treasure it!" Twilight huffed.

"Okay. So what kind of valuable are we talking? The kind that's gonna cost me a lot of bits or the kind that's gonna cost me a...friend..." Rainbow began to choke and sniffle. The reaction from the others at the table was telling as Applejack spat carrots out over the floor, Twilight began to choke on the daisy sandwich and Fluttershy began to tear up.

"Oh no! No!" Twilight said quickly recovering. "That won't happen Rainbow."

"You said it could of been really valuable..." Rainbow felt tears trickle down her muzzle. "You know I've got some valuable stuff that if somepony broke I'd be really, REALLY upset."

*Sniff*

"I know we're not that much alike but she still was one of my best friends! What if she doesn't wanna be friends anymore?" Seeing the distressed pegasus sink lower and lower Fluttershy flapped over the table bringing her friend into a hug.

"Shh, come on, no matter what it is Rarity would never be so upset that she would not want to be your friend anymore." She cooed trying to sooth Rainbow's spirit. Seeing the pegasus so upset was a new experience for all involved.

"Huh, Rarity must'a been ready to string her up to get her this upset." The apple farmer thought with a heavy sigh.

"Aw shucks it can't be that bad." Applejack shuffled over and brought a hoof to Rainbows withers. "Ah know! Sweetie Belle is coming over tomorrow to play with Apple Bloom maybe ya'll could come over and talk to her 'bout it? She must know if it was valuable."

Perking up and wiping tears from her face Rainbow uttered. "Really?"

"Eeyup." The farmer said with a kind smile.

"That sounds like a great idea!" Twilight Sparkle jumped to her hooves. "Don't worry Rainbow Dash we'll help you and Rarity make up.

"Thanks you guys...I was worried that you might all get mad and abandon me..." Rainbow sniffled.

"Oh Rainbow we know you didn't really mean to hurt her." Twilight smiled before a slight edge entered her gaze. "Still we're not happy Rainbow. You did do a bad thing and maybe you should try being more careful, Celestia knows how many times you've crashed into my library."

Rainbow merely nodded sadly before Twilight's smile returned and she carried on. "So if you promise you'll be more careful with other ponies things, we'll be there for you. Okay?"

"Okay."

"Good! So lets all meet at Applejacks farm tomorrow at ten o'clock." Seeing the nods of conformation Twilight Sparkle began to finish her dinner.

After saying goodnight to her friends, Rainbow Dash sped off back to her cloudhome and settled in for a much needed sleep. Well after making sure the tickets were still safe in her secret stash.

Pulling the covers over her she began to toss and turn as doubt started to niggle back into her mind.

"Stop. Your friends are going to help! All you gotta do is find out how much that teapot was worth and buy her a new one." The mind became shaky as sleep stole its way into her breath.

"Twilight's right, if I make it up to her I have to be more careful in the future. Otherwise I might really hurt my friends." Her last thoughts returned to the dainty unicorn.

"We're still friends...right?"
