//------------------------------// // Everything Changes // Story: Torchwood: Equestria Division // by Author Tempus //------------------------------// Dear Princess Celestia, A few months ago, I met somepony. Somepony who is brilliant, charming, and... And dangerous. He offered me the chance to do something fantastic, something that no pony else could know about. I joined him and his team; I joined Torchwood. Since then I have seen so many wonders and so many terrors... I should start from the beginning... The library was calm and quiet. Spike and I stood in the center of the main hall. "All right, Spike, if I'm right, this spell will change you into a pony. Now, hold still!" This was important; if anything were to break my focus, who knows what would happen! Of course, Spike didn't worry about any consequences. He was too busy thinking of showing off to Rarity after the spell took place. This, as you've probably guessed, is where everything went wrong. My horn glowed as I concentrated all of my magical energy on Spike. There was a blinding flash, and Spike sneezed. The results weren't as immediately catastrophic as I thought they would be... All I thought happened was that the spell didn't work. Which was true, a baby dragon still stood in front of me. "Twilight, what happened? Didn't the spell work?" he asked. "I'm not sure, Spike... Maybe I can try again?" Again, I focused all of my energy toward Spike, the image of a pony in my mind. Nothing happened. My horn didn't even cast a glow. "Uh... Twilight, are you okay? It doesn't look like your magic is working..." "Oh, no, I'm fine. Just fine!" I lied. "I just need a quick visit to Nurse Redheart to see what's wrong." Spike looked worried. "If you were alright, why would you need to see Nurse Redheart?" I couldn't think of a response to this, so I just told him everything was going to be okay and left. What I saw when I opened the door surprised me. Almost every unicorn and pegasus in Ponyville was waiting in line to see the nurse. I walked to the nearest unicorn. "What's everypony standing in line for?" I asked. The unicorn was a minty blue and had a lyre for a cutie mark. "Well, all of the sudden, like, out of nowhere, all of the unicorns magic stopped working! And the pegasi couldn't control the weather anymore! Personally, I think it was humans." she replied. "Um... Oh... Kay..." I backed away slowly and ran to the front of the line to see Redheart. She would be glad to tell me exactly what happened. "Nurse Redheart! Is it true?" "Twilight! Thank Celestia you're here... I just can't seem to figure this out!" "The unicorn magic and the pegasus cloud control?" "Yes! Er... How did you know?" "I... Asked somepony in line. But that's beside the point! Have you heard news from other parts of Equestria?" Redheart had a look of duty about her. "Yes, it seems that it's only happening in Ponyville, and as soon as anypony steps out of Ponyville's borders, their magic starts working again." "All right, I'll start working on finding a solution soon!" I looked around Redheart and saw a door blocked off with caution tape. "Um... Nurse? What's behind that door?" She looked worried. "NOTHING! D-don't go in there!" I was taken aback by the force of her words. It was obvious that whatever was in there was really dangerous. And for some reason, that made me want to go in even more. While Redheart was busy doing something else, I sneaked my way to the taped off door. It wasn't locked, which was odd considering how dangerous it supposedly was. I regret opening the door. What I saw changed my life forever. There was a dead pony leaning on a wall, and something that looked like a pony, hunched over him. I took a step closer to get a better view... The pony that was hunched over turned around and growled at me. Except... It wasn't a pony... It was far from it. It had tentacles around it's mouth and... And the tentacles were covered in blood. I nearly vomited when I realized what the... Thing had been doing to the dead pony. It started chasing after me, so I ran. I had never run faster in my life... I tripped, and the thing almost had me. And it would, if it wasn't for an earth pony colt who came out of nowhere. He had a strange device in his mouth. It almost looked like a gun, but it was completely metal. He told me to run. The creature swiped at the earth pony's neck causing a lot of blood to rush out, right before he gave off a shot and hit the creature square in the head. Both of them were dead. I have him to thank for the fact that I'm still here today. I walked out of the abandoned wing, trying to act as if nothing had happened. I made it back to the library without being noticed. When I got back, I ran into my room and started crying. It was the only thing that I could think to do. I fell asleep crying, and woke up the next morning, more tired then I had ever been in my life. "Spike, is breakfast ready?" I asked, half asleep and still in bed. Spike yelled back upstairs, "Twilight, it's lunch time! You slept through breakfast!" This was enough to wake me up. I missed a lot of work, and I needed to pick up some things. I needed to take a shortcut if I was going to be able to do everything on time. It was a normal day in Ponyville today, all the streets were busy, and it seemed that everypony had coped with their sudden loss of magical ability. I walked down an alley that I knew would bring me to the market district of Ponyville the fastest. What I saw almost made my heart stop. The earth pony who saved my life was standing over the body of a dead pony. He was perfectly fine, and he didn't have a single scratch on him. He was accompanied by a mare and a colt. The mares was a unicorn with a white coat, a blue mane, and purple glasses. The colt was another earth pony with a slightly bulkier build than the pony who saved me, and he had a brown mane and coat. My "hero" was a darker brown, and he wore a trench coat and a strange device above his front hoof. I was able to get a good look at his eyes, which were the bluest blue I had ever seen. I didn't want to be noticed, so I hid behind a corner and watched what was going on. The white unicorn levitated a strange apparatus onto her hoof. Wait, she levitated it! My curiosity was piqued at this point. The apparatus was similar to a talon. She placed her taloned hoof under the dead pony's head and there was a sudden flash. The previously dead pony woke up, as if he had just been sleeping. They started talking to the pony, but I was too far away to hear everything they said. Although, I did hear some things about there being no afterlife, as well as the other colt counting down. I heard zero, and the pony they had brought back to life had suddenly died again. The three ponies turned and talked to each other, and the unicorn and earth pony left. My hero stayed behind and glanced toward me. I ducked behind the corner, assuming what had happened was a secret. When I looked back, he was gone. I ran down the alley in hopes that I'd catch up to him. I turned the corner only to find the Ponyville fountain. My heart sank. I had really hoped to meet the pony who saved me. "Hello, Ms. Sparkle." said a calming voice. I turned around to see who the speaker was. I saw those blue eyes staring back at me. "You... You're the one who saved me, aren't you?" "Guilty!" he responded in a friendly voice. "But... Why did you lead me here?" "Just watch." The pony walked toward the fountain and stepped in. When he did, he vanished. Nopony around noticed. He peeked his head out. "Well, are you coming or not?" he asked. I reluctantly followed him to the fountain and stepped in. To my surprise, we were standing on an elevator of sorts. The platform we were on started moving down. "My name is Captain Jack Harkness, by the way. And welcome to Torchwood, Ms. Sparkle." (click here for Torchwood jingle) To be continued...
