//------------------------------// // 1 // Story: Totoro // by Totoro //------------------------------// Totoro yawned, rubbing his head with a paw, disturbing the sleeping colt beside him. "Totoro, you woke me up, you big ole' thing!" Exclaimed Pipsqueak, trying not to giggle. "Oh s-sorr*yawn*y, Pip, just woke up from the weirdest dream. I was in some sort of cartoon anime thing, and I helped this little girl find her little sister, named Mei." "Really? That's pretty weird." Totoro and Pip each got dressed, and headed out for the day. "Have fun at school, Pip." Said Totoro, waving to a grinning Pipsqueak. Totoro went to work, just near the Everfree forest. He worked as an animal-sitter for Fluttershy. Totoro had a strange way with animals. He couldn't talk to them, but he could understand their needs and feelings. Totoro, not being a pony, was never able to find a wife, and adopted Pip. He enjoyed his company. It was a bright, sunny day. Mares and Stallions alike were hanging around, smelling the flowers, chatting to each other. Totoro made it to Fluttershy's cottage a few minutes early, but he didn't think she'd mind. Totoro knocked, and timidly opened the door. "Flutters, I'm here." Fluttershy squeaked, and perked up at his deep voice. All the critters within 5 meters of him instantly squealed with delight and dashed at full speed to his paws. "Oh hey, Toto, Angel is sick, and needs to be taken care of when I'm out for the day. I wish I could do it myself, but you know how my boss is." Said Fluttershy. Totoro would blush if he could. It was hard not to with Fluttershy's adorableness. He held a bit of a soft spot for her, but Totoro knew no mare would ever accept him. Totoro's ears drooped a little at the thought, and Fluttershy pretended not to notice. Fluttershy gently handed a rather green Angel to Totoro, and left quietly. The day wasn't very eventful. Just playing with the animals and taking care of Angel. When the work day was over, Totoro collected his pay of 3 Tyu's and left. Tyu's weren't money, just a small translucent stone that had specks of light like stars inside. Totoro didn't need money. The Tyu's embedded Totoro with a strange energy, and he could create things with his mind when powered by one. Some of the more greedy and malicious ponies might make something that could do harm, but all Totoro did was make food and other necessary things. Totoro was also the only known thing to be able to use the power of a Tyu. Totoro decided to take a little walk in the meadow before he went home, Pip wouldn't be back from school for a few hours anyways. Totoro pulled a top from a black leather bag he slung over his shoulder, and stepped on it gingerly, like stepping on thin ice. He muttered something under his breath, and the top spun and spun until Totoro was riding around on the top like on a train with no rails. Totoro loved doing this. If only he had wings, he could fly around all day, without a care in the world. But Totoro had no wings. He wasn't even a pony. I don't even know what I am... Thought Totoro Totoro, having reached the meadow, hopped off of his spinning top. Nobody but him knew about this wonderful place. The meadow was beautiful. It was a lush green all year, even beneath all the snow and fallen leaves. Bushes and elegant leaves and trees sprang out of the ground. In the center of it all was a huge redwood tree. It was more than one redwood tree, actually. Totoro just assumed it was redwood because of its vast size. Flowers sprang from the ground, blueberriess and strawberries growing from bushes. Totoro loved this place, and would hate if anyone else were to know about it. Totoro had been secretly planning to show this place to Pip for his 10th birthday, but that wasn't for months. Totoro settled up against a tree, found a comfy spot, and fell in a deep sleep. ~~~ "Pip, I'm home!" Called Totoro, arriving only a few minutes after Pipsqueak arrived from school. The nap lasted longer than he expected. "Hi, Dad!" Said Pip, rounding a corner to give Totoro a hug. "Did you have a nice day?" Asked Totoro, placing his bag on the leather chair in the Living room. "Yeah, me and Applebloom found this really neat book about Tyu's in the school library, I thought you might want to read it." Said Pip, handing over a book with the title: Tyu's: What is their true origin? "Seems interesting..." Totoro read. It wasn't a very long book, only about 20 pages. Tyu's are a mysterious crystal found deep within the mines of Fillydelphia, whose powers are very strange. To a normal pony, they may look like any other rock, but to a certain creature named Totoro has a strange ability powered by these crystals. When imbued with a Tyu's power, Totoro gains the ability to create things with his own mind. Some claim him to be a fraud, a pony in disguise, but nobody knows for sure what Totoro truly is... "Something tells me the maker of the book knew virtually nothing about me." Said Totoro. "So Pip, you know how your birthday is coming up, right?" asked Totoro. "Yeah, why?" "I was wondering if you'd like to go to the Carnival that day. It's coming into town, and that'll be the first day it's open." Pip's eyes widened in joy. "Yes yes YES! That's awesome! I hope they have a pirate show down there!" Exclaimed Pip, a huge grin on his face. That night, Totoro smiled to himself and said, "Job well done, Toto, job well done..." then dozed off.
