//------------------------------// // This could be a problem. // Story: Somehow, I'm Twilight Sparkle. // by Full Tome //------------------------------// Okay, situation inspection. I’m aboard a ship that’s at sea. How far at sea? Not very far, I’d think. I’m aboard a MILITARY ship... Not exactly good, although I know I’m safe from the likes of Baba Yaga. Never again will I ever talk to a witch about what to do, and what it is I need to do. “Forgetting something?” I felt the thought from that side of my head that doesn’t seem to know when to stop bothering me. “Because I actually want to talk to you!” I thought back, the venom still edging on my thoughts. “Uh, could you smile? I don’t want my son to think I’m bothering you.” The captain said, looking around the camera he’d pulled out. “OH! Sorry, just uh... thinking.” I said, which was my generic response to pretty much any question asked when I’m thinking. I was a little glad he pulled me out of my thoughts. “That’s okay, I’ll just give you a second to think then.” He said, lowering the camera. “Thanks, but I’ll be fine, really.” I said, putting a smile on my face. My heart was still racing from the whole thing with guns being pointed at me, which was probably why my smile felt forced. “Well, you don’t entirely look it.” The man who had escorted me to the captain pointed out. “I’ve just... had a long morning...” I said, thinking back to when I woke up. “Haven’t we all?” The captain asked, clearly trying to calm me down. “True...” I said, considering the situation from their point of view. “Now, um, forgive me for only now asking, but...” I continued, having just realized something. “What are your names?” “Right, right, we haven’t gone over names.” The captain said, returning to the center of the bridge. “I am Lieutenant Commander David Smith, Captain of the U.S.S. New York. The man who’s escorted you here is Lieutenant Jonathan Dachs.” He said, gesturing to the man next to me, who gave a quick nod of acknowledgement. “Mr. tall, strong, and silent here is actually our Chief of Communications, First Lieutenant James Carters.” Captain Smith went on, continuing to identify everyone in the bridge. Some turned to acknowledge that they’ve been introduced, and some didn’t even seem to notice that their names were said, like James. Although, a few seemed to take great interest in me, much like Captain Smith himself, for family members, or even a few for themselves. After being introduced to everyone on deck, and letting the captain take that picture for his son(I even asked if he’d let me put his hat on for it, but he said no), I was taken to what would be my room until we docked. There was two beds hanging from the left wall and two hanging from the right, as well as four lockers. There were two desks and a small table as well. “Fortunately for you, this is my berthing, so you’ll have someone to talk to.” Lt. Dachs said. “The other two should have stopped by here come lunch time, so you should be able to take a few minutes to get to know them as well.” “I’ll be sure to.” I said as I looked at a deck of cards sitting on the table. “Great, I’ll come by and check on you every once in awhile, to make sure you’re okay.” He said as he started heading for the door. “One question before you go.” I said, turning my head to look at him. “Exactly how long before lunch?” I asked, feeling the pain for not having accepted Baba Yaga’s offer for breakfast. “Lunch will be served at twelve-hundred thirty.” He said as he went to leave, before stopping in the doorway. “Eh-” “Twelve thirty P.M, understood.” I said, cutting him off while turning my gaze back at the deck of cards. “Alright then.” The officer said as he shut the door behind him on his way to whatever he was doing. “Alright, Finally alone.” I said, focusing on the cards. How did one use magic? Imagination didn’t seem to be a major part of it, because no matter how I envisioned performing levitation, I couldn’t make anything move. “... I suppose I should try to have internal conversations...” I thought to myself. “Say uh... Twilight? Can you hear me?” I thought in an attempt to communicate with my... well, myselves, I guess... “Yes, I can hear you. So, why were you freaking out when they pointed those weird things at you?” She thought back, thankfully. “Those were guns, and... they’re not exactly the nicest things in our world, to put it simply. Anyways, how do I use magic?” I thought to her. “Well, first you need to think about what you want to do, and then you, uh... and then you just...” She paused for a moment. “you simply...” Another pause. “Simply what?” I asked. “I... I don’t know.” I heard. “You don’t know!? What do you mean you don’t know!?” I thought angrily. “This is YOUR body, YOU’RE the one who grew up as a unicorn! How can you simply not know how to use magic!?” “I-I don’t know! I just can’t remember how it is I used magic!” I heard Twilight think back. I let out an external groan. “This could be a problem.” I thought opening my eyes back up. I start focusing on the cards again. Even one card would be something. I’m sick of not being able to use what should be a natural ability. Even simple levitation would be amazing at this point. Narrowing my eyes at the deck, I start to chant “I want to lift those cards,” over and over in my head. This leads to no success. After staring at the cards for a good while, Lt. Dachs comes by, assumably to check up on me like he said he’d do periodically. “How are ya doing?” He asks. Startled by the sudden voice, I scrambled clumsily to my feet... er, hooves. “I’m okay, I just didn’t expect you here so soon.” I said after giving a quiet sigh. “Captain Smith told me I’m to check on you at least every thirty minutes to make sure you’re okay.” He said. “Alright then, I’ll just be trying to figure out how to lift a card with my horn.” I said passively. “Okay, lunch is in an hour, just to let you know..” He said, leaving the room again. I made a mental note that I’d see him once more before lunch before setting back to trying to learn magic from scratch. “Do I need to say something?”  I thought to Twilight. “Not for anything I know of, but there might be some spells that require incantations.”  I felt her think. “Great, looks like I’m stuck then...” I thought, looking up at the cards. I decided I’d get a little bit more comfortable instead, so I took a few minutes taking off my camping bag. Looking around again, I decide it’s best to just leave my bag right in the middle of the floor next to the bed on the right side of the room when entering. I started trying to climb into bed, but it was too high for me to be able to actually climb in. I decided to learn how to jump so that I wouldn’t need to be picked up, but I was having serious issues with it. Just as I was getting to the point where I could get all four hooves around three inches off the ground... My phone started ringing.
