Birth of a Royal

Chapter One

Pinkie bounced over to Twilight, saying "Oh, Twi, I've waited and waited and waited for you! You have the new cookbook!" Twilight Sparkle blushed. "It's only an old issue of Canterlot Cookk," she said. "But it's Canterlot Cookk! Really, Twilight!" Pinkie Pie giggled. Twilight started to say something, but it was cut off by the bright voice of Spike. "Twilight! The Princess needs you in Canterlot right away! She says bring everyone!" Pinkie looked stupifuied. "What's she need us all for?" the question was wondering, not selfish. "She didn't say, but..." he cut off as he heard the voices of Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy, some sounds of flapping and galloping emanating from their group. "What's the need, Spike?" Applejack's kind, country voice asked. He repeated to Applejack the words he'd spoked unto Pinkie Pie.

Nevertheless, they soon found themselves riding in a large, airborne
carriage. Once they arrived, the came to a shocking sight of a pony,  in a navy blue.  It was Luna! The attention drawing part was the fact that usually slender, lithe Luna was much... Rounder. She smiled, her cutie mark seemed to bulge, and she looked like she had eaten an overlarge meal. "What..." Rarity stammered. She knew what was going on, but couldn't believe it. Luna was going to have a foal, by the looks of it! She said that she had met a handsome stallion, and they were married at once. The stallion's name was Glowing Dusk, he was a young pegasus of a dusky purple, but one thing quite surprising was that he was Rainbow Dash's brother! "Dusky!" Rainbow said in disbelief, getting a kind reply from her brother, "Rainbow D! Oh, D, so long! Didja hear that m'sweetie over there is gonna have a-" he was cut off by a quick zipping and the purple glow of magic. Looked as if somepony didn't want the beans spilled—yet, anyway! Then, they heard Celestia telling them that they were on the way to Twilight's old house, which would be converted. Rainbow heard none of what the convertation would be into, for she'd already raced into the sky with Glowing Dusk.

Twilight came to her old house, feelling an odd, crushed feeling. It was sort of good, and bad. Being there represented  her not having any friends. But being there was her birthplace, so it felt good...? She was busy sorting through memories, then rushed off when she heard hooves clacking into the nest room. She caught a tail end of a whispered conversation between Luna, Rarity and  Celestia. "....So that's why we'll be renovating." Twilight Sparkle walked in and, seemingly, crashed the discussion. "So, umm... Whatareyougoingtonamethefoal, Luna?" Twilight spat her words straight ought, not even trying to control them. Luna, in her regal manner, replied "I cannot say, for it is unknownest to me weather it is a filly or a colt." Twilight looked embarrassed. "Oh, heh... Sorry..." she said as her cheeks grew a blazing red. Luna suddenly gasped, and Celestia stroked her with a wing. "Pains, sister?" she asked softly. Luna looked quite uncofortable, she was breathing hard. Yet she replied soon,  "Yes, Tia,"

Just as Luna had finished, a wet, hot pair of pegasi fell in through the skylight. "RD! GD! Silly ponies, you scared Luna!" Rarity scolded. Rainbow Dash quickly realized that Luna hadn't eaten an overlarge meal; she was going to... To have a foal. "Oh... My... Gosh... Luna, you're... Expecting a foal..." RD gaped. Pinkie  Pie giggled. "Well, haha! Yeah!" Luna, in her old world way of speaking, said "Yes, Miss Dash, indeed. I have been for a few months, and a in a few days..." Luna said, but Rainbow already knew what would need to happen. A new royal would be there. Luna couldn't rule for a few months.

Whispers floated about the dark room, and Princess Luna panted hard. She had been awoken late in the night, and she now needed to be taken to the royal doctor. Celestia had sent a letter to Spike, and Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and Fluttershy arrived promptly. "We came as SOON as we heard," Rarity claimed, stroking Luna gently. Fluttershy was busy in the kitchen, getting icewater and warm dishcloths. Twilight was running shower water, filling a tub with steaming liquid.

Luna, by now, was panting and too wobbly to stand. She had given in and was now waiting on the soft carpeted floor of Celestia's room when Rarity called from the bathroom, saying "Princess Luna, dear, your bath is ready!" Lina was quite relieved at that and shakily rose to her hooves and stepped into the bathtub.

Time, while only minutes passed, to Luna it felt like hours. Once she got into the bath, with its warm contents calming her quickly. Now, she sunk into the squishy towels layered on the tub's floor comfortably. Luna all of a sudden felt an urge, stronger than any she'd felt before. Even more than that of. When she was Nightmare Moon and she wanted power and everlasting night. Moments passed, and when she was falling into a faint trance, she heard Celestia saying, "Sister, you're crowning!"  she felt a inward, bodily push and when she looked down she saw the most beautiful foal she'd ever seen. She had the same coat color as herself, but eyes as blue as her father's, with a horn and wings like her mother. She had neon green hooves and appaloosa markings on her flank in the same color. Luna nearly cried. "Oh... She's so beautiful... I could go crazy..." the normally regal princess of the night whispered in such a normal ponyish voice that Twilight looked surprised. "I, Luna, Princess of the Night, declare that a celebration shall be held between Twilight Sparkle's friends and my sister. A bright and glorious feast shall be held!" everypony agreed, and at the dawn's light, they ate cake, ice cream, hay bales, and daffodils for lunch, and Twilight and her friends spent the afternoon whiling away the hours as they cooed and coddled Luna's filly. She named the filly Star Night, for her dark blue coat and eyes.

Soon the sky darkened, and Celestia lowered the sun and raised the moon. Everything was peaceful in Equestria, and there was a new princess to behold.
