//------------------------------// // We're an individual together. // Story: Somehow, I'm Twilight Sparkle. // by Full Tome //------------------------------// I honestly have no idea how long I was sitting in the dark, but eventually a soft white glow began to surround me. I looked around quickly, but could only see the dim reflections of myself in a pane of glass on either side. I trotted up to one of the panes of glass, and put a hoof to it. Slowly, a purple glow began to show itself from the other side, illuminating Twilight. Sure, I looked like her, but for some reason or another, I could tell it was actually her. Her eyes were closed and she seemed to be sleeping while sitting up, which I find funny, because my mom does that, and I always poke fun at her for it. I trotted over to the other pane of glass. I didn’t even need to touch the pane of glass, as it started to glow a light blue color. I could tell it was me as I made the form that was looking back at me. A small blue pegasus, with what seemed to be a blond windswept mane. “What on earth did you do?!” He yelled. “What do you mean?” I asked, staring myself right in the eyes. “Look at what’s gone on in here! I know you better than that! You wouldn’t have put us into some weird rooms separately, especially not with Twilight in the last of the three!” “Oh come on! This will help and you know it! We’re getting to New York! We’re able to talk to ourself whenever! And now we know that Twilight is actually the Twilight!” “Yes, because being in the body of the person who’s the weakest of our consciousness of our being is a good thing!” He yelled, his green eyes locking on mine. “Better than whatever you’d have done!” I screamed, trying to force myself into a metaphorical corner and failing. I knew I was on the shallow end of this argument. “Guys....” A groan from behind me interrupted our shouting. “S-sorry...” I said, quieting down. I had to step out of here, since I’ve never been on my good side and Twilight was trying to sleep. “I’m sorry.” Twilight said from the other side of her glass. She looked like she had been crying. “W-what?” I said, running over to the window that allowed me to see her. “I-I didn’t know what the spell would do, and now that I’ve used it, I caused all of this arguing.” “I hate to say it, but you’re wrong.” My blue self said. “Myself and I have never been on good terms.” “And I’ve made that worse. Don’t you understand? This can’t last. Baba Yaga can’t keep the inevitable from happening, we will merge, and I don’t think either of you will be whole when it is over... I’m so sorry.” For a second I tried moving the shape of the world so that it wasn’t so awkward to talk to myself and Twilight. I actually managed to somewhat move things, but it only went so far as my own room. “We’ve never been whole to start with.” I say, actually starting to laugh. “For once, I agree with myself.” I heard myself say. He’d done the same with his room, moving the windows next to one another, and shaping his room into the triangular form I had mine in. ”So the thought of part of yourself dying doesn’t scare either of you?” Twilight asked softly. “Because it sure as Tartarus scares me.” “Maybe that’s a good thing it scares you.” I said with a smile. “You’re plenty more sane than I am, I can tell you that for sure.” “Besides, we lose ourselves a little bit every day to begin with.” My blue self says. “I may be frightened by change, but I can live with it, because I’ll never lose my individuality.” “But, how are you individuals if there’s more than one of you?” Twilight asks, her sadness slightly less prominent than her curiosity. “Simple,” I start, starting to laugh again. “We’re an individual,” My other self added in, a soft and understanding expression on his face. “Together.” We say as one. I start laughing my tail off so much it seems a little forced, but I can’t help it. Any time I’d ever agreed with myself, my mood was hard to kill. “So, as I become one with you, and we both lose ourselves to some degree, I am going to be the one in a panic, not you two? I thought for sure I would be the strong one when it came to things like this.” She said with a nervous chuckle. “I’ve always believed that it’s best not to panic, no matter what the situation.” My other self said, since I was still incapable of conversation. “Besides, fear is one of the things that’s made people strong. It’s an emotion I would never get rid of. “Also, what’s not to say you lost your nerve after being kept from taking the conscious role earlier?” He finally asked. “I’ve been keeping myself subdued. I don’t want to accidentally cause more damage than I already have.” Twilight said. “At least, that’s my excuse, I don’t know what would happen if I really tried to take over.” “Probably nothing. We’re at constant war with ourself over who’s going to be in control... Although, that’s a weak excuse.” My other part said. “Do you really think you could cause more harm than that?” He asked. I didn’t even need to see to know he was gesturing toward me. “Hey, don’t forget *gasp* about yourself!” I called in between bouts of laughter. Twilight closed her eyes and steadied her breathing, before reaching out a hoof and touching the glass in front of her. A hole in it the size of a dime appeared with a deafening crack, and a few smaller cracks spread from it. She quickly pulled her hoof back and looked at the hole in shock. “Oh Celestia, I just meant to test it... to gauge the strength of the barrier.” She said in shock. I stopped laughing and got to to a standing position. “Wow, we can slightly break it... think we can fix it?” I asked with a smile, wiping my hoof over it several times just to see what the glass did. It mended some of the smaller cracks, leaving a small but clean cut hole. “Well, lets try not to break down the glass unless needed.” I said, a little afraid of what would happen if the windows were gone. “Say, where are we anyways?” I heard myself ask. “We’re in our head?” I ask rhetorically, as if to answer my question. “No no, what I mean is, where are we on the map?” He clarified. “Well, you would have to wake up for that, pony.” A shrill voice said from above. “Oh geeze what?” I said reflexively. “Bloody muffins lady, are my thoughts not private!?” I called to the skies. That raised the question of how, if I was dreaming, was it only from one perspective? “No! they are not, until this little gathering is over. I have made the windows, and I must wait for you to awake in order to leave your mind. It is filthy in here, please wake up.” She said snippily. “Filthy? Filthy!? Why I oughtta-” My other self started Twilight held up a hoof. “I see a library around me, I’m sure you see something else, I’m sure she just sees what she wants to see, and she doesn’t like us. I think we should wake up to get her out.” “WAKE UP CALL!” I yelled suddenly and ran away from the windows. I ran over to a bed and jumped onto it, looking into the mirror there. “Mirror mirror on the wall, wake up time says time to fall!” I shouted as I dove headfirst at the mirror as I heard myself call me some derogatory name.
