//------------------------------// // How It Happened // Story: Not So Negative // by NyanDerpy //------------------------------// Rainbow Dash turned over in her comfy cloud bed as Twilight Sparkle and Applejack tried once again to wake her. "Rainbowwww.... Come on!!!" Twilight groaned angrily. "Dash, ah think you'd better wake up before Twilight here tries somethin' over the top. The two ponies tried countless times, but as Applejack put it, she was heavier a sleeper than all the carriages of apples from last Applebuck Season. They eventually looked at the other ponies in the room with anger and despair. "Anypony else care to bucking help us with this gosh-darn task?!" Twilight snapped. Fluttershy shrank under her burning gaze and Rarity stepped back. "Oh, um, well, I'd love to, but darling, my mane shall most certainly be ruined if Rainbow Dash overreacts to being woken." Pinkie Pie bounced over cheerfully. "Oooh, let me try!" She ran into the other room and dragged in a party cannon and a noisemaker of some sort. She lit the cannon and blew into the noisemaker. Rainbow Dash jumped straight up, alarmed within an inch of her life. Confetti rained everywhere and Dash started yelling, as well as Rarity. "PINKIIIEEE!!! You've ruined my-" At this point, Rainbow ranted about how the confetti had messed up her house and she was going to have to get up off of her lazy butt and clean it again, and Rarity whined about a single confetti streamer getting in her precious tidy mane. Twilight, who was already in a very bad mood, magically poofed away the confetti and yelled louder. "EVERYPONY SHUTTUP NOWWWW!!!!" Dead silence. "Good, so now please stay quiet long enough for me to explain this idea." Rainbow Dash, who was virtually frozen in the air, dropped down to the floor. Oh great, she thought. Another patented lecture from Twilight Sparkle. ~~~~~~~~ Rainbow Dash was pretty sure she got the basic concept. At first she tried tuning Twilight out, but her ears kept picking up words she liked like "weather", "awesome", and "speedy". So she started to listen. Then to make it easier, she brought a piece of graphing paper over along with some markers, in blue, purple, pink, yellow, indigo, and orange. She mapped out "Project Magic", as she kept calling it. Dash picked out her part in said project from what she considered to be meaningless babble and other such things. She was to fly a couple kilometers south and bring in the massive storm that had formed over the Everfree Forest. She had to bring it over the Ponyville Park, which was usually vacant on Saturdays. And she had to stop it from moving so Twilight could do her experiment. Easy. ~~~~~~~~ "A little little leftish while staying rightly!" Pinkie shouted. Rainbow sent her a pointed stare before she could start measuring in smidgemeters again. "Good!" Twilight said. Now, everypony, shield your eyes. ~~~~~~~~ Vinyl Scratch and Octavia walked towards Ponyville Park for their weekly Saturday picnic. Vinyl and Octavia were good friends, and roommates. They chatted as they trotted towards the park, but stopped when they noticed the ominous dark cloud hanging over it. They heard a voice from above them. "Hey, guyz, whathz up?" The voice was feminine with a masculine hint, and was a bit distant, as if the speaker was not exactly all there. "Guess who?" Vinyl chuckled. "Hey Derpy. What's going on?" Derpy giggled. "How did you know? Where are you guyz going?" Octavia put in "Oh, well I'm going with Vinyl to Ponyville Park for a picnic." Derpy looked confused. "Whatz a picnic again? Oh yah, never mind." The three of them collapsed laughing. "Oh Derpy. Do you wanna come? We have muffins!" Derpy joined the group as they went laughing along the path. ~~~~~~~~ Twilight focused all her essence, being, and energy on doing her spell. She felt the tip of her horn spark, and then her whole body was sparking with electricity. Her horn was connected to an energy generator, which was connected to a large lightbulb, which would light up if it worked. The wire didn't react but Twilight didn't care. She let her fur stand on end with the static, and let the energy give her power to fuel the spell. The energy she felt slowly built until she felt as if her veins were coursing with electricity and energy rather than blood. She focused that feeling on her horn, and a light blasted from it. Her eyes lit up with it, becoming a pure glowing white. The energy beam she had created was slowly lowered till it was aimed at the storm. Suddenly, the controlled energy ascended her level of mastery and she was lifted, encased in an all too familiar ball of pink energy. She knew this was normal, because of her research. But what happened after that was not expected at all. All any of them could remember was a yelp from Rainbow Dash, a blinding flash of light, and a spark. Nothing more.
