Waking in a Strange Land

Chapter 1: A Strange New Land

A/N: I apologize for this Author's Note. I promise I won't do too much. I will really only use them when necessary. I decided to add this note to mention a change in my writing. I have changed the thoughts of the character to Italics, so when he is thinking, it won't seem as though he is speaking out loud. Hopefully this will make the story seem a bit more “professional”, even though I am clearly not a pro. I have also decided that I will try to update this story at least twice a week. There are no promises to this statement, so don't hold me to it. Thank you everypony, and enjoy!

Chapter 1: A Strange New Land

What the hell is going on here? Where am I? I think to myself. I attempt to stand up, but since I'm not used to walking on 4 legs, I stumble and hit the ground. I try again, this time slowly. Once I figure out how to stand, and slowly start walking around to get the hang of it. It took me a while to find the right rhythm of how to move my legs, and once I found it, I felt confident enough to look around and see where I am. I can see nearby that there is some kind of town. I decide to head there first to see if I can find anyone who can help me.

After walking for about 5 minutes, I reach the edge of town, only to discover it's full of horses! I see horses of many different colors, and even notice a few unicorns and pegasi walking around. O.k. This is weird. Where are the people? I think to myself. I walk into town, and as I do I see a pink blur run in front of me. It surprised me so much I almost fell over. I look over to where the blur stopped, and saw a pink pony, with a pink mane looking right at me.

“Um, hello?” I say to the pony. She looks at me for a few seconds, then all of a sudden lets out a giant gasp, then sprints off into the town. I must have had a puzzle look on my face, because an orange pony with a blonde mane and tail snuck up on me.

“Don't you worry 'bout Pinkie. She always acts this way t'wards newcomers. I'm Applejack. What's your name?” She said.

I turned to look at the pony and said, “Lucas.”

“Well, that's a strange name for a pony. Where ya from stranger?”

“Manhattan.” I said.

“Manehattan? Your a long way from home. What brings ya out to little old Ponyville?”

I think she pronounced Manhattan wrong. Oh well. “I don't really know. I just woke up in that field over there. I don't even know how I got here.”

She looked at me with a puzzled look, and put her hoof to her chin. “Hm. No idea how ya got here, huh? Maybe you should go see Twilight. She might be able ta help ya. She lives over in the library. You can see it from here.” She said, as he pointed towards a big tree near the middle of town. “Oh, and watch out for Pinkie. She gets real excited around new people.”

“Yeah, I noticed.” I said, and we both laughed.

“All right. I'll see ya later. I got some work to do.” And with that she walked away towards a farm.

Well, might as well go see this Twilight. Couldn't hurt. I walk around town until I reached the library. I knocked on the door and heard a voice on the other side say, “Just a second!”

A few seconds later the door was opened by a purple unicorn with a purple mane and pink streaks. “Hello. Can I help you?” She said.

“Um, Applejack said I could find you here. I was wondering if you could help me.” I said to the pony.

“Sure, come on in.” She said with a smile. I followed her into the house, and saw that the walls were covered in books, and a huge stack was on the table. “Here, let me clear the table so we have a place to sit.” Her horn lit up, and I saw all the books on the table glow a purple color and lift into the air. One by one the books were put in their place on the shelf. After the table was cleared, Twilight sat down. “Come. Sit. Tell me what you need.”

I sat down at the table and told her the whole story about how I got out of bed this morning go to school, how I get hit by a car, the mysterious voice, and how I woke up here in Ponyville. “Hm. Well I've never heard of something like this before. Maybe I should talk to the Princess about this.” She said, with a hoof to her chin.

“Who's the Princess?” I asked her. She looked at me as if I was the craziest person she has ever seen.

“Wow. You really must not be from here at all. Princess Celestia is the ruler of Equestria. She lives in the Canterlot Palace.”

“And you think she can help me?” I asked her.

“If she can't, then there's nothing we can do. I'll send word to her right away. Spike!” She yelled . A small purple dragon with green spikes came out a door behind Twilight.

“Yes Twilight?” He said.

“Take a letter. We need to send a message to the Princess right away!” Spike pulled out a piece of paper and quill, from what seemed like thin air. Don't ask me how, because I couldn't tell you. After Twilight read out what to write for Spike, he did something that surprised me. He blew fire on it!

“I thought you were sending that letter to the Princess. Why did he burn it?” I ask.

“It's how we send letters to her. My fire has the ability to send letters to the Princess, and receive them as well.” Said Spike. As soon as he finished his sentence, he had a bloated look on his face, and burped. A letter appeared in front of him. Spike opened it and read the contents. “To my dearest pupil Twilight. That sounds very interesting indeed. I would like to see this Lucas in two days time. Until then, I would like for you to show him around town and introduce him to your friends. Once you have done so, find a place for him to stay, and I will send someone to pick him up. Princess Celestia.”

“Well, I guess we better get going then. Let me just gather a few things before we head out.” said Twilight. She leaves the room and comes back a few minutes later with a saddlebag that seemed to have some books in it. “Alright, let's go.” She opened the door with her magic, and we left the library. I wonder what Twilights friends are like. Hopefully they aren't as weird as that Pinkie girl.
