Letters to Celestia

Celestia's reply

Dear Twilight Sparkle,
While your last letter was shorter than what you would have usually sent me, it is easily one of the most important ones you have ever written.

Your letter shows that you are growing further and further in the ways of friendship, learning more about its deep and mysterious wonders, and it is truly wonderful that you are getting even closer to your friends. I am proud of you in this regard, and I cannot say how happy I am to hear the news. I simply hope you can grow even closer to the other elements, and that you continue to grow as you are now. After all, that is why you were sent to Ponyville.

And I am glad you remember the day I sent you to Ponyville, because I remember it as if it was yesterday. It is one of my fondest memories, and most undoubtedly one of yours as well.

As for your comparison of what friendship is, you are getting closer, but you are still very off. You still have much to learn in the ways of friendship, but the comparison you gave me shows that you are getting much closer then you were a year ago. Friendship is not an all-powerful being, nor is it something to fear or revere as if it were a god. Friendship can be in many forms, but it isn’t any of those things that you stated in your comparison.

So, I have a new assignment for you. I want you to discover the true essence of friendship. Not what friendship can do, or what it represents, but what friendship truly is. This assignment has no due date, so you may send it in a month, or give it to me on your fiftieth birthday. The only requirement is that you get each one of your friend’s signatures on it. That is the one thing that it truly needs. It doesn’t matter if it is incomplete, torn asunder, or even completely blank. It needs those signatures. But I have complete faith in you. You need not worry.

In regards to the news of you having a special somepony, I may have accidentally covered my sister in some very fine Darjeeling immediately after reading. While I am proud of you for finding someone, and even prouder in succeeding to surprise me with that knowledge, I cannot say that I am proud of the way you told me this. I would have rather wished for you to have told me in person, if only for the reason that you would have witnessed what the castle staff are now referring to as the “celestial drench.” After all, that is something I would have loved to hear, and I would have flown down to Ponyville myself if you would have asked.

And I do not care that you kept a secret from me, and seeing as you upholding a promise, it is fully understandable, if not commendable that you would keep a secret that far. But I have advice for you. Don’t be too hard on Spike. He is just a baby dragon, and he didn’t mean to tell Rarity your secret. I hope you weren’t too hard on him.

I also have one last assignment for you. In relation to that statement of “Wasted parchment”, I want your next letter to be nothing but why you love Rainbow Dash. No replies to comments made in this letter, (Other than the acknowledgement of this assignment) no complaints, and no holding back. I want to hear everything you have to say about your very special somepony. It is due within the week, and I want Rainbow Dash’s signature on it as well. I trust you will do well.

I hope to see your response soon.

Your very busy teacher,

Princess Celestia

P.S Seeing as your last letter was a personal one, I would ask if it was possible to lower the formalities. I get plenty of them daily, and there is no need to get any more than necessary.

P.P.S It was good to hear from you again.

P.P.P.S
Smack Applejack for me. She spammed me with several more “I didn’t learn nuthin!” and “I was right all along.” Letters again.
