//------------------------------// // Finale // Story: Rainbows Can Be Lonely Too // by butboifranko //------------------------------// It had been probably more then a hour that we've just been walking. Chatting about the randomness things. Things like Flight Camp, the random picnics we shared together, flying, but mostly importantly; it was just us talking about fond memories. I had no idea what time it was, but I didn’t care. Fluttershy and I hadn't talked like this in like, forever. There was something different about her today. She seemed a little more open then usual, a little more…confident in herself. Whenever we’d share eye contact she’d blush, but would continue staring right at me. I swear, it was like she was staring into my soul; unraveling all of my secrets, secrets I don’t want anypony to know; secrets that only Fluttershy has permission to know. Cause, secretly I love her. She just doesn't know it…yet. We stopped in the centre of what seemed to be the field that never ended. Me and her sat side by side, slightly brushing against each other. We just stared up at the sky, without a word. Fluttershy sat on my right, and I sat on her left. It’s obvious, I know. I just don’t know how to describe how I felt at this point. All the emotions were spinning in my head, all the emotions I thought I've never thought I’d feel for someone else. All the emotions ponies have to come to presume I don’t feel. Yes, I know. Others look at me, thinking I’m not into romance, and that I only care about flying and becoming a Wonderbolt. That isn't true. Well, for a while it was…but that was before I started feeling these feelings for, Fluttershy. She pulled me out of my, well…selfishness, and showed me a new world. A world where I could probably find a pony I can live the rest of my life with. I felt a cool breeze whip against my side, making me flinch. Fluttershy reacted immediately and scooted right up against my side. I felt my heart skip a beat, almost startled at how fast she reacted. When the breeze came to halt, I felt her begin to move away but out of no where; my foreleg darted up and I pulled her back up against me. Coming with a small, “Eep!” Fluttershy didn’t move away, instead she moved in closer and nuzzled into my chest with a blush. I unfolded my wing and allowed it to wrap around her, pushing her closer to me. She didn’t seem to mind, all I know is that I didn’t. “So, um…Dash?” I looked down at Fluttershy and grinned. “Yeah Fluttershy?” “Do you still want to, teach me flying techniques…if you don’t, its alright.” I turn my eyes to look up at the sky, seeing how clear it was and nodded. “Totally! Come on, we’ll start with the easy stuff.” ~~~~~~~ Front flips, back flips, 360 degree turns…she nailed them all! Clearly an improvement from the last time. There was definitely something different from her today, obviously more independent, brave, and something else I couldn't put my hoof on. I sat on the ground watching Fluttershy fly about sixty feet off the ground, doing the tricks she just learned to do. I was pretty proud of her, from coming from failing miserably to actually perfecting a back flip in a few tries. Not like it beats me. Heck, I perfected it before I was even born! Fluttershy landed back on the ground and grinned at me, making me break out into a smile. “Dash, aren't you going to join me?” I raised an brow and laughed, “Heck yeah! Come on, Fluttershy,” I darted up into the air, “Try and catch me!” Fluttershy leapt into the air after me as I began to fly at a steady pace away from her. I didn’t fly too fast, knowing if I flew at my normal speed; Fluttershy wouldn't be able to keep up. She did pretty well at keeping at pace with me though, she nearly caught me a few times. I heard her giggle at times, making me laugh as well. After a good ten minutes, she finally gave up and flew to a cloud to rest. I was pretty surprised that she lasted for ten minutes. I was a little tired myself, so I flew to the cloud and rested beside her. “That was really fun, Dash. I never really…flew like that before. It felt, amazing.” I looked at her and chuckled, “Huh. You think that was amazing? You just started with the basics. When you get into the harder tactics and manoeuvres, then we’ll see how it makes you feel.” Fluttershy moved her mane out of her face with her hoof and began pawing at the cloud. “I don’t think I’d be able to do anymore then a few flips. I’m not, a strong a flier as you.” “You never know until you try. But, there isn't only tricks and flips you know.” Fluttershy laid down on the cloud and looked at me with a small smile. I laid down as well, right beside her and smiled back at her. She turned her head to face forward. “Do you think…” Her head came back, and our eyes locked, “That maybe…” She trailed off, and turned away blushing as red as a beet. “Do you think, that maybe…what?” She didn’t turn back around but instead looked the other direction. I put my hoof on her shoulder and scooted right up against her. “Fluttershy, what is it?” She was just fine a second ago, and now she was upset. Did I do something wrong? I heard her sniffle, and she turned back around. Her large glassy cyan eyes met with my magenta, or at least I guess that’s how you’d describe it. Fluttershy stared right at me and sighed, “I went and talked to Rarity yesterday about something that’s been…well, eating at me lately. And I want to, um…talk to you about it.” “Oh, well. What is ‘Shy?” She sighed again, “Lately I've been, feeling…a strong feeling for somepony. I- I couldn't bare keeping it to myself. Most importantly, I didn’t know what to do about it. So, I went to talk to Rarity about it. I told her who-” “Who is it?” I burst out, looking straight into her eyes. “That’s the problem. I’m too scared to tell you. I’m scared, you’ll be mad at me…and leave me, forever.” This struck me hard. Doesn't she trust me? Or…is she scared to tell me that she likes, me? No. No. Fluttershy doesn't like me. Or, does she? “Rarity told me that with, positive attitude…I’ll obtain positive results. But, I’m still too scared to tell you.” “Fluttershy. You shouldn't be scared to tell me anything. I've known you since we were foals. You can tell me anything…I’ll never leave you, you understand that right?” “Oh, of course. It’s just that…if I tell you, do you promise you won’t leave me alone forever?” I sighed at how over dramatic Fluttershy could be and nodded, “I promise.” “…Pinkie pie promise?” Seriously? “Yeah. Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye.” I said as I did the ridiculous hoof gestures. “Alright, the pony I like is…” I kept constant eye contact with her, and realized that her eyes were filling with tears. She opened her mouth but stuttered. I then realized that what she was trying to say is…that it was me. Fluttershy is really shy, but she wouldn't be scared to tell me who she liked, unless her crush was… me. Fluttershy lowered her head. I moved in as close as I could get and placed my hoof underneath her muzzle and lifted it back up, and kissed her without hesitation…okay, maybe a little. I heard her gasp and tense up, but almost immediately I felt her ease down. My hooves wrapped around her neck and pulled her closer, as Fluttershy practically collapsed; and I was her only support. The kiss was unbelievable. I never expected this kiss to be so amazing, so radical, so…awesome. Fluttershy had deepened the kiss, shocking me to the bone, but leaving me overly satisfied. I didn’t want to flee from this embrace, this is what I've wanted for so long. This kiss, this moment, made everything else invisible, as if the only thing in existence was Fluttershy and myself tongue tied…but to ruin the moment, I still had the confession part. I broke the kiss as slowly as I could, and nuzzled Fluttershy’s neck as I took in deep breathes, trying to regain control of my breathing. This was the hardest part, and I needed all the breathe I could get…cause there was a lot to say. I moved a little distance from Fluttershy’s muzzle and looked right back into her eyes, to make she sure she knew; that what I was about to say was true…and that, ugh forget the describing, time to explain. “Fluttershy. I-I've been wanting to tell this for who knows how long…for the past few days, after the storm. After we were stranded in that cave, and when it was just us. These feelings came out of nowhere and I couldn't shake them off. I just figured they‘d fade, but every time I tried, they’d just come back stronger and stronger. It took me a visit with a friend to snap me back to reality, and to realize that…I was well, in love with you.” “I’m terrible at explaining and expressing my feelings ‘Shy. But I've been trying to figure out how I was going to tell you for this whole week, but I couldn't come up with anything clever, or romantic…and I wanted to make it special, and I-” Fluttershy pressed a gentle hoof to my muzzle and smiled, “Rainbow Dash. You didn’t need to think of anything clever or, romantic. Just look at how well, this…went,” Fluttershy looked down and frowned, “ I've been meaning to tell you same thing, also. I was too scared to tell you because I thought you’d reject me and I’d lose your friendship, and even if I couldn't have you as a marefriend, I’d be devastated to lose you as a friend because… we've been through so much together. You were the pony that stuck up for me when everypony else teased me, you let me cry on your shoulder when I needed a shoulder to cry on. You were the only one I could turn to, for the longest time.” “Even when I must of gotten on your nerves, like during that storm. You risked your own life to save mine, and you got hurt worst than me. I was terrified and…I probably would've, died if it wasn't for you. I’d probably be, a wreck if it wasn't for you,” Fluttershy coughed, clearing her throat; as I was still listening with full attention, “And…I knew about, when you put your foreleg over my shoulder and cuddled up against me during the storm,” What? She knew about that!? Well…not like it matters now. “Oh, Rainbow Dash…I could go on forever about how much I…how much I, love you. I can’t think of anything else to say, even though I know there’s so much more. My mind is just so discombobulated…” I reached out a hoof and grasped Fluttershy’s hoof in mine and smiled, “I get what your saying ‘Shy. But now just leaves the big, question.” “What’s that, Dash?” I moved closer to her face, a few inches from her muzzle. “Will you be my marefriend?” Fluttershy smiled at me, as a single tear fell from her eye. Her forelegs embraced my neck and said the magic words, “Yes Rainbow!” My forelegs reached out for her waist as I pulled us in a sitting position, and just squeezed in a tight hug…both of us crying, and yes I was actually crying. This is what I've wanted for as long as I can remember. It just took me my whole foal hood to now to realize it. Now I had what I wanted, and I couldn't need anything else to make me any happier. Fluttershy leaned forward and I immediately met her half way, and pressed my lips against hers. She kissed me back, laughing and crying at the same time. It was beautiful, it was the most radical feeling that I've ever experience. Maybe almost as spectacular as flying. Well… maybe not that amazing. But, maybe with Fluttershy; flying would be a whole lot meaningful. Maybe now, my life would be complete, with Fluttershy being the final piece of my life puzzle. Now, it was just me and Fluttershy, and I couldn't ask for anything more awesome. Tomorrow…I’d have a great story to tell.
