Chapter 44: Abduction

Grant woke up in his bed. Upon looking around him, he found that the beds next to them were empty as well. Grant then put his hand over his heart, remembering the terrible pain from the night before. As he looked down at his hand, a voice broke the silence.

“How are you feeling?” asked Rae.

Grant looked up to see Rae standing there in front of his bed.

“You bitch!” yelled Grant.

Grant leapt out of bed and put his hands around Rae’s neck. Rae didn’t even flinch or move as Grant lifted her off the ground while he choked her. It was almost as if her smiling mask was taunting him even more.

“How much?!?” he demanded. “How much more pain do I have to go through until you’re satisfied?!?”

“If all goes well, we’ll only need tonight,” said Rae in a completely normal voice, despite the fact that Rae’s throat should have been crushed by Grant’s forceful grip.

“What?” exclaimed Grant, putting Rae back down.

“I just discovered from Gilda, who did a flyby of the Emmitt’s house, that the princesses of Equestria, Celestia and Luna, have arrived on Earth. Gilda supposedly watched Luna duel with Kyle. If I’m correct, and I have no reason to doubt myself, it seems that the princesses have come to join the fight as well.”

“What does that mean?”

“Before Equestria came to Earth, Celestia and Luna raised the sun and the moon, respectively, for its inhabitants, bringing light and darkness.”

Grant had never heard of this before, and he could already tell what Rae was getting at.

“Do you have any idea how powerful that kind of magic is?” continued Rae. “If we can capture one of the princesses, the other will come for the other’s rescue. If we can absorb their magic, we can combine that with the magic of the Stone of Equus cards that we do have and have enough energy to destroy Equestria.”

Grant remained still. He didn’t know whether to be elated or terrified.

“And then,” said Rae, putting the palms of her hands on Grant’s cheeks, “you’ll be free of Onyx Cerberus’ curse.”

With that statement, Grant felt like he could take a sigh of relief, but it was short lived.

“How do you expect me to capture one of the princesses? If I try to go for one, the other will come to protect her. Plus, I’m sure Alex or Tom will try to go for me as well. I don’t think I need to go over what Tom was able to do last night.”

“No,” answered Rae, “you don’t. It’s okay though; I have this whole thing planned.”

“Alright. Lay it on me.”

It was beginning to be close to sunset at the Emmitt house. Celestia dutifully watched as much of the neighborhood as she could from the front of the house. Celestia however smiled, knowing that she could finally relax and let her sister take over her post for the night like she would do back in Equestria. Sure enough, Luna walked outside from the front door, her presence making herself known to her sister.

“Anything, dear sister?” asked Luna.

“Nothing that I could see,” answered Celestia.

“Let’s hope the night fares just as well.”

“Yes, let’s. Thank you, Luna.”

“Please, rest sister. You’ve had a busy day today.”

Celestia began to walk inside when she stopped halfway into the house.

“Luna,” she said, “do you think you can handle this?”

“Of course! I was able to beat Kyle pretty easily. How much harder can it get from there?”

Celestia smiled at Luna’s confidence.

“Very well. Good night, Luna.”

“Good night, ‘Tia.”

Luna watched as her sister fully walked inside the house and closed the door behind her. Luna then resumed what Celestia had done before her: observe the neighborhood with watchful eyes.

Celestia headed towards the living room, walking past Twilight, who was standing at the stairs.

“Where you will sleep, Celestia?” she asked.

“If it’s not too much trouble, I’ll take the couch. Thank you for your concern.”

“But of course. I couldn’t imagine what would happen if something happened to you.”

“You don’t need to concern yourself, my faithful student. I’m certain Luna will protect us just like she did back in Equestria.”
“Yes. What was I thinking? Have a pleasant sleep, Princess Celestia.”

“Good night, Twilight.”

Twilight headed back upstairs while Celestia climbed onto the couch, ready to take a peaceful night’s slumber. As Twilight reached the top of the stairs, she caught Kyle as he walked down with a comforter in his hand.

Kyle watched Celestia as she nuzzled herself onto the couch, trying to be as comfortable as possible. Once she rested her head upon one of the couch pillows, she felt a soft cloth be pulled over her body. She immediately looked up to see Kyle with the covers in his hand.

“Well, aren’t you sweet?” spoke Celestia.

“I only wish to make you comfortable,” said Kyle.

“Thank you very much. Might I ask where you’ll be sleeping tonight?”

“Tom said there was a couch downstairs. I’ll be taking that.”

“I see. In any case, good night, and thanks for the blankets.”

“No problem.”

Kyle quietly jogged up the stairs while Celestia nuzzled herself in one last time before she dozed off.

“This whole thing scares me,” said Carolyn to Thomas, who was in bed in his pajamas reading a Stieg Larsson novel. “I mean, it’s gotten to the point where even the rulers of an alien nation have to protect us. What do you think is going to happen to them? Or even worse, our own children if they fail?”

“If you want my opinion,” said Thomas, placing his book over his stomach, “I think Princess Celestia and Luna will do just fine. If Rae and her friends are from Celestia’s world, then surely they should know how to deal with them. I mean, they seem to live pretty peaceful lives, so those two must be doing something right.”

“I just don’t want our daughter being taken from us like that again.”

“Me neither, but if Celestia and Luna can’t protect us, no one could.”

“Don’t talk like that!”

“Listen, what I’m trying to say is that I fully entrust the princesses with our lives, and so should you. Now come to bed.”

Carolyn walked to her side of the bed, flipped the switch of her lamp on the bedside table, and gently went onto her bed. Thomas continued to read where he left off while Carolyn laid on her side, hoping to get some sleep despite her apprehensions.

“What do you think about this?” asked Sarah to Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy.

“Um…” wondered Fluttershy aloud in a fear-stricken voice, “I trust the princesses fully, but the fact that this has come as far as it has makes me scared…”

Sarah could see Fluttershy’s eyes begin to water up and seep past her closed eyelids. Sarah wished that she could do something.

“Aw, don’t worry Fluttershy,” chirped Pinkie Pie, putting her arm around her friend. “Princess Celestia and Luna will do a dandy-rific job helping us. I mean, when have they EVER let us down?”

“Um… there was that one time…” spoke Fluttershy with a volume that was as humanly close to mute as one could get.

“Exactly! So you’ve got nothing to worry about!” Pinkie Pie then yawned. “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to hit the hay, or in this case, the floor!”

Pinkie Pie laughed incesently before falling asleep and snoring at the drop of a hat. Fluttershy’s morale was boosted somewhat by Pinkie Pie, leaving the yellow pegasus flutter up to Sarah’s bed and fall asleep next to her. Sarah gave a couple of gentle pets to Fluttershy, before lowering her body down on the bed and her head on her pillow.

“Yeah,” she whispered to herself, “we’ll be just fine.”

Kyle was setting up his makeshift bed in the basement. From what he could tell, he would like it down here. There was a TV for whenever he would wake up and needed something to entertain himself, there was a mini fridge with some water and other drinks inside, and there was a large electric centerpiece fireplace in the middle of the room, which was surrounded on three sides by a couches. Upon setting his pillow and blanket there, he heard pattering coming down from the stairs. He then saw Rarity with a pillow and comforter in her teeth.

“So sorry, Kyle,” she apologized quietly. “I usually like to sleep down here as well. There’s much more space and the fireplace is lovely. Speaking of.”

Rarity used her horn’s magic to turn a knob on the fireplace, bringing it to life and filling the room with warmth.

“Ah,” she exclaimed. “Much better. Wouldn’t you agree?”

“Yes. It’s nice.”

“Right then. Let’s get some much deserved sleep.”

Rarity neatly tucked her blanket into the couch cushions, allowing her to slip into them and rest her head on the pillow.
“Good night darling,”

“Yeah,” answered Kyle. “Good night.”

Kyle plopped himself onto the other couch and tried to get some rest.

In Tom’s room, Applejack was placing her hat on Tom’s dresser while Rainbow Dash was curling herself up on Tom’s bed. Applejack went into Tom’s closet and pulled up a sleeping bag, which she unrolled and unzipped for herself.

“Something about this whole thing feels fishy,” stated Rainbow Dash.

“What do you mean?” asked Applejack. “Don’t be such a Debbie Downer, Rainbow. If there’s anyone who can protect us, it’s the princesses.”

“I don’t know. Grant was able to beat both Shining Armor and Princess Cadance so easily. Who knows what he can do against either one of them?”

“All I know is that you should have a little bit more faith in the princesses.”

Tom walked into his bedroom, his pajamas already on.

“What are you girls talking about?” he asked.

“Tom,” spoke Rainbow Dash, “do you think the princesses can help us?”

“From what I’ve heard from Twilight, they seem to be very strong and reliable. I say that we can trust them.”

“But… what if–”

“Listen,” said Applejack, “you got nothing to worry about. Just get some sleep. I’m sure everything will be much better by tomorrow morning.”

Rainbow Dash thought for a bit about it.

“I guess you’re right.”

“I know I am,” finished Applejack. “Well, good night.”

Tom walked up to and crawled into his bed, Rainbow Dash shifting herself to let Tom under the covers.

“Goodnight, Tom,” said Rainbow Dash.

“Good night, Rainbow,” yawned Tom, stroking Rainbow Dash’s mane.

With one final stroke, Tom fell back onto his pillow, letting the softness of his pillow and the warmth of Rainbow Dash’s body against his leg drift him into slumber.

Twilight was just finished putting Spike into his bed (a basket with a cushion inside it). Alex watched her as she did so, sitting at the side of his bed.

“Alright,” said Twilight. “That should do it.”

Taking a yawn, she tiredly hopped onto the bed. Before she could get herself comfortable and lay down, Alex reached over and gave Twilight a hug.

“Alex,” she exclaimed, “what’s this about?”

“I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you as a friend.”

Twilight, moved by Alex’s statement, put her own arms around Alex’s back.

“I really like you too, Alex.”

“It’s just that I feel something terrible is going to happen to the princesses that’s going to screw the lot of us over.”

Twilight broke free from the hug.

“Would you relax? The princesses are perfectly capable of handling any crises. Now, let’s get some sle…”

“Twilight fell sideways onto the bed, being out like a light before her body even landed. Alex watched her with a smile. All he knew was that he never wanted his time with Twilight to end.

Later that night, the suburban streets were practically desolate, minus the occasional biker or person walking their dog. Grant was at the same intersection where Jenny and Lisa were ambushed the day before, riding a duel runner modeled after an Indian Chief Dark Horse. Along with his black polo, he wore dark pants, motorcycle boots, and a long red coat.

After assessing the plan in his head, he turned onto the Emmitts’ street and accelerated as fast as he could.
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Meanwhile, Alex went downstairs to ask Luna if she needed anything to eat or drink. That’s when he heard the motorcycle noise. With its engine as loud as it was, Alex didn’t want to take any chances. He rushed to the door and flung it open.
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Grant was just a house or two away from the Emmitt house. With his speed as fast as it was, Grant skidded to a halt which didn’t stop until he was directly in front of the house. Luna bared her teeth and stood offensively at him. At that moment, Alex swung the door open behind her, causing Luna to cock her head slightly towards him. With the sound of the door slamming against the wall, Celestia shot out of bed.

Grant used Luna’s distraction to his advantage. He pulled a gun from a holster at his side, aimed it at Luna, and fired. The gun shot a laser which blasted Luna back, knocking her into Alex. As Alex stumbled backwards, Grant then clutched his free left hand. Causing a white light to flash the entire area. As Luna got back up to face Grant, she noticed that the area around her was quiet. Too quiet.

The ambience that the night provided: crickets chirping, wind blowing, owls hooting, were all muted. Luna then looked behind her to see Alex frozen in a stance: he was falling backwards onto the floor inside the house. The door was still wide open, and she could see Celestia wide awake from Alex’s arrival.

“CELESTIA! ALEX!” she yelled.

Not a response from anyone. Luna turned back to face Grant.

“What have you done?” asked Luna.

“Time has become frozen,” explained Grant, twirling his gun on the trigger. “It’s a new power that Rae has given me. Now, the only things allowed to move in this space is you, me, and everything on our person.”

Luna watched as Grant walked to a firefly, in mid-glow, and twacked it with his fingers. As Grant explained, it didn’t budge.

“I see,” said Luna. “You can’t just simply abduct Stones of Equus or their bearers like that; they couldn’t move in this space.”

“Precisely. The only thing I’m here to do, however, is duel you!”

Luna bared her teeth once again.

“Once I defeat you,” he said, “we’ll be able to extract your magic from you, and Rae’s plan will finally bloom into fruition!”

“Like I’d let you!” yelled Luna.

She casted her playing field-aura from her horn and placed her deck on the lower-right hand zone. Grant’s D-Pad formed from the halo that appeared around his elbow and scanned his arm.

With this victory, yelled Grant, I'll be one step closer to being free of this curse.

Luna and Grant drew five cards from their decks.

“DUEL!” they yelled.

Luna vs. Grant

Luna’s Turn: Luna activates the continuous spell card Wave-Motion Inferno. Next, Luna sets one monster. Luna then places two cards face down. Luna activates Wave-Motion Inferno’s effect, sending it to the graveyard to send all cards from her hand to the graveyard.

“Your tricks are no stranger to me, Grant,” spoke Luna. “My deck has been made specifically to combat the likes of you!”

“Need I remind you what happened to your niece and nephew-in-law?” asked Grant, causing Luna to stare daggers into him. “However, they were given a choice of whether to surrender or not. I can’t offer you the same courtesy.”

“As if I’d accept it.”

***************************************************
Luna’s Turn: Luna activates Graceful Charity, drawing three cards and discarding two. Luna summons Infernity Necromancer (ATK: 0 DEF: 2000). When Infernity Necromancer is normal summoned, it's switched to defense position. Luna activates Infernity Necromancer’s effect. When she has no cards in her hand, she can special summon an Infernity monster from her hand, choosing Infernity Avenger (ATK: 0 DEF: 0). Luna tunes Infernity Guardian and Infernity Necromancer with Infernity Avenger to synchro summon Infernity Doom Dragon (ATK: 3000 DEF: 2400).

Luna activates Infernity Doom Dragon’s effect, destroying one monster her opponent controls and inflicting damage equal to half of its ATK when she has no cards in her hand, choosing Goldd, Wu-Lord of the Dark World.

Grant’s Life Points: 4000 -> 2500

Because of Big Bang Shot’s effect, Goldd, Wu-Lord of the Dark World is removed from play.

Luna ends her turn.

“I admit that the Infernity deck is a tricky deck,” said Grant, “and you play it well…”

“Don’t butter me up, cretin!” yelled Luna. “I won’t rest until you and your sick army is devastated!”

“Then you’ll have to fight even harder.”

***************************************************
Grant’s Turn: Grant places one card face down. Next, he flip summons Morphing Jar, having all players discard their hands and draw five cards from their deck. Grant activates the effect of Snoww, Unlight of the Dark World, adding a Dark World card from his deck to his hand when it was discarded. Grant activates D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation, discarding one card to special summon a monster from his removed from play zone, choosing Goldd, Wu-Lord of the Dark World.

Grant activates the effect of his Sillva, Warlord of the Dark World, special summoning it when it was discarded from his hand (ATK: 2300 DEF: 1400). Grant then normal summons another Goldd, Wu-Lord of the Dark World by tributing Morphing Jar. Grant overlays both Goldd, Wu-Lord of the Dark Worlds and Sillva, Warlord of the Dark World to xyz summon Onyx Cerberus (ATK: 3300 DEF: 2900) (ATK: 3300 -> 3600, DEF: 2900 -> 3200).

Grant attacks Infernity Doom Dragon with Onyx Cerberus, but Luna activates Phantom Hand, banishing all cards in her hand when she controls an Infernity monster. Next, she activates Infernity Force, destroying Onyx Cerberus and allowing her to special summon an Infernity monster from her graveyard, choosing Infernity Necromancer.

Grant places one card face down and ends his turn.

“Bet you weren’t expecting that, were you?” mocked Luna.

“Frankly,” said Grant. “I don’t care. Whatever moves you play on me will be all for naught when I’ve defeated you.”

If you defeat me,” corrected Luna.

“No,” spoke Grant, “I will defeat you. My future depends on it.”

“What future is there when everything you love will be wiped out?”

“A future where the dark force controlling me will be relinquished from me. Knowing you, I’d think you can sympathize.”

“Shut your mouth! I will never pity you! You are scum, and I will teach you where scum belongs!”

***************************************************
Luna’s Turn: Luna’s hand returns to her hand during her standby phase. Luna places two cards face down. Next, she activates Magical Stone Excavation, discarding two cards to add a spell card from her graveyard to her hand, choosing Wave-Motion Inferno. Luna activates Wave-Motion Inferno. Next, she summons Infernity Archfiend (ATK: 1800 DEF: 1200) (ATK 1800 -> 2100, DEF: 1200 -> 1500). While Luna has no cards in her hand, Wave-Motion Inferno has all Infernity monsters gain 400 ATK and DEF (ATK: 3000 -> 3400 DEF: 2400 -> 2800) (ATK: 300 -> 700, DEF: 2300 -> 2700) (ATK: 2100 -> 2500, DEF: 1500 -> 1900).

Luna activates the effect of Infernity Necromancer again, special summoning an Infernity Monster from her graveyard when she has no cards in her hand, choosing Infernity Avenger. Luna tunes Infernity Archfiend and Infernity Necromancer with Infernity Avenger to synchro summon Void Ogre Dragon (ATK: 3000 DEF: 3000).

Luna activates Infernity Doom Dragon’s effect, destroying one monster the opponent controls when she has no cards in her hand, but Grant activates Divine Wrath, negating the activation of a monster’s effect and destroying it by discarding one card. Luna attempts to activate Void Ogre Dragon’s effect to negate and destroy a spell/trap card when she has no cards in her hand, but Grant activates Dark Scheme, having both players discard two cards and then draw two cards.

Because Luna has cards in her hand, Void Ogre Dragon and Infernity Doom Dragon’s effects don’t activate, so Divine Wrath’s effect doesn’t activate. Also, Wave-Motion Inferno’s ATK and DEF boosting effect is negated (ATK: 3400 -> 3000, DEF: 2800 -> 2400).

Grant activates the effect of Broww, Huntsman of the Dark World, drawing one card it when he discards it. Grant then activates the effect of Kahkki, Guerilla of the Dark World, destroying one monster on the field when it’s discarded, choosing Void Ogre Dragon.

Luna places one card face down. Next, Luna activates Wave-Motion Inferno’s effect again, sending it to the graveyard to send all cards from her hand to the graveyard. Grant activates the effect of Gren, Tactician of the Dark World, destroying one spell or trap card when its discarded by a card effect, choosing one of Luna’s face down cards. Grant tunes Beiige, Vanguard of the Dark World with Fabled Raven to synchro summon Chaos King Archfiend (ATK: 2600 DEF: 2600) (ATK: 2600 -> 2900, DEF: 2600 -> 2900).

Grant attacks Infernity Doom Dragon with Chaos King Archfiend. When Chaos King Archfiend declares an attack, the ATK and DEF of all monsters Luna controls are switched (ATK: 3000 -> 2400, DEF: 2400 -> 3000). Luna activates Attack Invulnerability, choosing the effect to prevent Infernity Doom Dragon’s destruction by battle. Battle damage is still applied.

Luna summons Infernity Randomizer (ATK: 900 DEF: 0) (ATK: 900 -> 1400).

Luna activates Infernity Doom Dragon’s effect, destroying one monster her opponent controls and inflicting damage equal to half of its ATK when she has no cards in her hand, choosing Chaos King Archfiend, but Grant activates Energy-Absorbing Monolith, negating the damage and gaining life points equal to the damage he would have taken.

Grant’s Life Points: 800 -> 2350

Luna ends her turn.

Luna grunted that she couldn’t finish Grant off, but she knew his chances of winning were minimal. His hand and field were completely empty. It would take a miracle to win this duel. However, it was Grant’s ever confident smile that erased any hope that Luna still had.

***************************************************
Grant’s Turn: Grant activates his Graceful Charity, drawing three cards and discarding two. Grant activates the effect of both Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark Worlds that he discarded, destroying one card on the field when they’re discarded by a card effect, choosing Infernity Randomizer and Infernity Doom Dragon. Grant activates Monster Reborn, special summoning Onyx Cerberus from his graveyard (ATK: 3300 -> 3800, DEF: 2900 -> 2500).

Grant attacks Luna directly with Onyx Cerberus.

Luna’s Life Points: 2500 -> 0

Grant wins.
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Luna’s attack blasted her into the side of the house. With time frozen as it was, the impact didn’t leave an ounce of damage as Luna merely rebounded off the wall and onto the ground, left unconscious by Grant’s massive attack.

With the duel over, Grant’s composure returned, his face brought back to its stoic demeanor. Grant walked over to Luna and hoisted the winged unicorn over his shoulders. He then carried her to his parked motorcycle and sat her on the back seat. Mounting on his seat, he pulled two large pairs of handcuffs from his coat pockets. After positioning Luna’s legs around his waist, he locked the first set on her rear hoofs. Then, after wrapping her forearms around his torso just below his armpits, he buckled the next set in, securing her in place. Grant then took one last look at the Emmitt house in its frozen state before he left off.

“Whether it be by our hand or yours,” he said, “this ends tonight.”

Grant then sped away east down the street, and then north on the busier street at the end of the road. As he swerved past cars frozen in the road, he began to hear a siren come from his time gun. Grant ignored it and sped away faster with Luna in tow.
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Meanwhile, time suddenly resumed. Alex fell over after getting hit by Luna. Upon getting up, he realized that both Luna and her assailant weren’t there. Alex ran outside to see if anyone was there, only to find a barren street.

“LUNA!” yelled Alex. “LUNA!”
