//------------------------------// // Chapter 17: Cafe Catching Up by suplup and Frankie // Story: Lake of Reflection // by Richer19 //------------------------------// Two things I want to mention before this chapter starts. First of all, my editor contacted me about the date submission and he said that he wouldn't be able to edit these chapters because he wanted to see what people would come up with. So these chapters are going to be not as good as they use to. The plus side is that chapters would be release a little bit faster. The second thing is that my mom has come down with something really nasty so I may not be on my laptop as much. Thanks for understanding and here is the next chapter. Chapter 17: Café Catching Up “So as you can see here Ms. Lulamoon. This job is very easy to manage and it does have a decent salary of course.” Secretary Swift said as she looked back towards the blue unicorn hoping that she would accept the position. Swift was all too aware that the process of getting information around Town Hall and they had been looking into hiring another assistant secretary. They were looking for somepony who was both organized and efficient which was the reason that Trixie decided to try and apply for the job. In reality, Trixie wasn't exactly an organized unicorn in the past. She did have a sense of where everything she needed was located but never really developed any real sense of cleaning or organizing while living in her stage trailer. However, the time that she spent with Twilight while wearing the Saddle has somehow managed to have an interesting impact on the blue unicorn; which was evidence by what she had done prior to applying for the job. It started out with her waking up to the smell of warm breakfast cooked by her new roommate. She managed to get herself awake and into the kitchen just in time to get a slice of toast with butter and a glass of milk. After downing the food, Trixie made her way towards town with a small but still reasonable amount of spending money. Once in town, Trixie got herself a new saddlebag to carry all of her stuff and also an organizer with quills and ink. The organizer was a scroll that was divided into seven sections for each day of the week. It could also be altered to show the whole month or the whole year. The organizer was also enchanted to give off a warning whenever an event that was marked on the date was about to happen. It wasn't as large as the check-lists that Twilight would have but it was enough for the unicorn who was discovering the benefits of organization and time-management. Returning her thoughts to the present moment, Trixie looked at what could become her new workplace. Of course it appeared to be simple and plain but it offered a rather nice view of Ponyville. Trixie was even able to make out the library from what she could see. She was glad that the position was still opened when she was out of the Saddle since she saw the wanted sign posted about a week ago. It wasn't exactly what she wanted to do with her life but it was the best option she had available. Trixie looked at Swift and said “This does sound like something I want to be doing. I would be honored to accept the position.” Swift couldn't help but let out a breath of a relief at the idea of having her workload reduced. The two mares shook hooves in agreement before Swift informed her that she was to come to the Town Hall tomorrow to take care of the last details and to start her training. Trixie nodded her head before bringing out her organizer and jotting down the date and time on the parchment. After exchanging a few last minute details, Trixie manages to exit the Town Hall just in time to see Twilight walking around. Trixie was a little surprise to be running into her so soon and part of her didn't feel ready enough to ask her out yet. However, before she had a chance to hide; the purple unicorn saw her and started walking towards her. Trixie felt a small bit of panic forming in her stomach but she saw the joyful smile on Twilight’s face that seemed to magically cause that bit of panic to disappear. When Twilight got close enough, she asked in a polite tone “Hay there Trixie, I was just on my way to my favorite café. Do you want to come?” Trixie couldn't resist the almost natural way Twilight’s eyes would shine and grow in the adorable fashion and found her head nodding in agreement to join her. With that, the two unicorns made their way towards Le Café Honnête. Le Café Honnête was a simple place that was perfect for the simple lifestyle of Ponyville. Due to the town close proximity, they were able to sell drinks that you would find in the capitol city. However, they managed to take those recopies and add a bit of country flavor to them; making it a successful business sometimes frequented by the higher up nobles. Today was a slow day for the café as most of their usual customers were busy with work at this time; which was the perfect time for Twilight and Trixie to be able to have their get-together. Twilight got her usual order of green tea while Trixie decided to try a latte. The two unicorns made their way towards one of the outside table and sat down with their drinks. The time passed in slowness as the two unicorns were trying to figure out a way to break the ice. Twilight was actually somewhat surprised that Trixie had been so eager to accept her offer considering that she thought the blue unicorn might be resentful to her because of the saddle. Trixie on the other hoof was still dealing with her pride and love which seem to want to continue their constant mental war in her head whenever her thoughts turn towards Twilight. Eventually, Twilight was able to say “Nice weather today right?” Trixie looked up at the sky, noticing the fluffy clouds that drifted in the gentle breeze and warming rays of the sun shining on the town. It was the definition of a perfect day and Trixie was in agreement as well. With the ice broken now, Twilight felt her confidence rise a bit and ask “So what have you been doing since you last left Ponyville?” Trixie looked over at the purple unicorn and gave a minor shrug before replying “There wasn't much to say really. I went to a few smaller towns to try and restore my reputation. I got kicked out of their when news about the Ursa Minor reached them. I fell into a bit of depression where I spent the bits I earned on alcohol before running out of money. Then I started traveling around Equestria looking for a source of inspiration before I found a place where I learned more about whom I was and what I wanted to do with my life. It eventually brought me here and the rest you know.” Trixie reframed from telling Twilight about the Lake of Reflection or about Luna as she didn't want to try and appear boastful towards Twilight. Trixie was about to ask Twilight what she had been doing when the two unicorns saw Spike running towards them with a scroll in his claws. He eventually reached them and said that the scroll he was holding was from Celestia. Trixie felt her curiosity increased as she wondered what kind of connection Twilight had with the Princess of the Sun. She never heard anything about this while she was wearing the Saddle. Before Trixie could ask, Twilight replied “I sorry to cut this short Trixie but something I need to take care of. Perhaps we can meet up tomorrow and I can give you the tour of the town.” Trixie nodded her head in understanding and watched as Twilight and Spike made their way back towards the library leaving the blue unicorn lost in thought. Credits: Main Date by: suplup Opening Scene by: Frankie The name of the café is in French and I ran it through Google Translate so it might not be the correct way to say it; but it translates to “The Honest Café”.
