(this has nothing to do with the story at all I just thought this would be fun. Idea from Butterfield Pancake. Thank you)
On a calm night in the land of Equestria, a dark portal opens in the Everfree forest, sending waves of evil energy flowing everywhere. A large figure climbs out of the dark portal, it has three legs and a single large yellow eye. It was covered in a black exoskeleton. The large beast examined it's surroundings. It was still in a forest, similar to the one where that young being had ended it's life in the Deku tree. It climbed the nearest tree and spotted an immense tree in the distance. It thought that large tree was the same Deku tree and jumped off the tree to run towards it to finish it off. No monster that looked upon it dared approach it out of fear. The large entity broke down trees and knocked away anything in it's path to reach its destination.
------------------Canterlot-------------------
Celestia had awoken upon feeling the menacing presence in the Everfree, moving towards Ponyville. She rose from her bed and brought a paper over to warn Twilight of this being while going to tell Luna of the same presence. Luna met her sister outside of Celestia's room, Celestia had sent the letter for Twilight to read, the magic dust flying out the window and towards Ponyville. "Sister dost thou feel this creature?" Luna asked. Celestia nodded and they turned to the Everfree forest, "We must investigate this disturbance before any of our subjects get injured." Celestia said. Luna agreed and they teleported to the edge of the forest to deal with this matter before anypony came to harm.
--------------------Ponyville---------------------
Twilight was sound asleep, as was Link and Spike. The small dragon woke with a large belch that revealed the Princess's letter. He grabbed it and looked at it, he stood up and woke the unicorn. "Spike? why are you waking me up? It's the middle of the night." she said sleepily, rubbing her eyes. Spike held out the letter, "This is why, Celestia sent it. I think it's urgent or she would have sent it in the morning." he said. Twilight was instantly alert, she took the scroll with the royal seal on it and unraveled it. She read it over quickly, "Spike we need to wake everypony up and get them somewhere safe. An evil being has just appeared in Equestria." she said throwing her blanket off with her magic and leaving Spike to wake up Link. Spike shook Link but he didn't wake up, he just rolled over. He tried a few other times, getting the same results, before he pushed Link off the bed. Link shouted as he fell. He stood up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes, "Spike? What time is it? Why'd you wake me up?" he asked the baby dragon, stretching. "Well Twilight told me to, there's something evil coming this way and we need to wake everypony up and get them to safety before it gets here." he explained. Link stood up and nodded, he put his equipment on and ran down the stairs.
Twilight had made a checklist of everypony in Ponyville, along with Link and Spike. She turned to Link as he bounded down the stairs. "Link, do you know any way we could get them all up and ready?" she asked him, he nodded and took out his Deku mask. She didn't understand and asked him his plan, he just said follow me and ran out the door. She followed him with Spike on her back.
They ran to the center of town and Link had put the mask on, turning to the small wooden creature known as a Deku Scrub. He equipped the Deku Pipes and played a song. The notes boomed out of the pipes, every door opened and the residents exited their homes to lay their eyes upon the one who woke them up, Deku Link. He still had his pipes out. "What's the big idea? Waking us up!" the crowd yelled. "Ponies! Ponies I have a message from the Princess!" Twilight yelled but they didn't listen. Link blew a single note, a very high one that stopped the ponies from shouting. He turned to Twilight, she was holding her ears, "Sorry Twilight, they should hear you now." he said, putting his instrument away. "Everypony! I have a message from the Princess!" she repeated, the crowd murmured as Twilight continued, "An evil being is approaching Ponyville, we need to find a safe place to stay until the matter is dealt with. The princess said that she and Luna were going to stop this creature before it reached Ponyville, I think it would be best if we stayed at Sweet apple acres until the matter is dealt with." she said. The ponies started panicking and ran back into their homes, taking the welcome mats and locking the doors; some even barred the windows.
Twilight facehoofed, making an audible clop. Link took his mask off and turned to Twilight, "Um does this happen often?" he asked, she nodded, "Yeah they think they're safer in their homes. But if what the princesses say is true then this beast may have come from Hyrule. We may need your help, but as a last resort. Is that okay?" she asked, Link nodded and equipped his bunny hood, "Should we go to Sugarcube corner?" Link asked, Twilight confirmed and they ran to the seemingly candy coated building. Pinkie opened the door and pulled them both inside, her arms stretching out in the process. She slammed the door shut and turned to Link and the unicorn. "Are you two crazy!? There's a monster out there! You have to stay inside where it can't find you!" Link looked at her, "Um Pinkie why are you alone in the dark?" he asked, she answered simply, "I'm not alone, you and Twilight are here, and so are Mr and Mrs Cake, and the baby Cakes, and I think the others are in the kitchen." she said tapping her chin. A loud screech caused Pinkie to scream and cling to Link, he remembered that sound, Twilight saw the look of recognition in his eyes.
"You know what's out there don't you?" she asked, he nodded, asked Pinkie to let go of him, and walked to the door with his gilded sword drawn. He was about to exit when a pair of orange hooves pulled him back, "Woah there Sugarcube, We can't let ya'all get injured by that monsters. The Princesses can handle it." Applejack reasoned. Link looked at the hat wearing pony, "They don't know how to defeat her, but I do." he said, walking back to the door. "What is that thing? If you don't mind me asking." Fluttershy said from underneath a table. Link turned to the ponies, "It's a parasitic armored arachnid, Queen Gohma." he said, Applejack and Fluttershy began shaking. They remembered how he described the creature in one of his stories. He turned back and ran out the door, wearing the bunny hood.
----------------------------Field near Everfree---------------------------
The alicorns had arrived just in time to see the dark skinned creature exit the forest. They were shocked by the massive being that was Queen Gohma. It stood twice as tall as they did, it's single eye surveyed them before it returned it's gaze to the tree, and saw a town. It began it's journey towards the tree, ready to destroy anything in its path. It stopped as a glow emanated from behind it. It turned to see Celestia's horn glowing a bright yellow, the eye blinked. Luna's horn glowed a deep blue. Together they fired a single magical beam, it hit Gohma, stunning it but not injuring it. The beam stopped, when Queen Gohma had recovered it turned to the attackers, unscathed. It's eye turned red, it screeched as three eggs were dropped. They hatched as soon as they touched the floor, three smaller copies of Gohma looked around their new environment, their yellow eyes stopping on the alicorns. Their eyes turned red before they threw their bodies towards the white and blue alicorns.
Celestia put up a barrier, and Luna shot three magic blasts, each one hitting it's target. The small creatures screamed and burnt into non-existence. They watched in a mix of horror, and interest as the three monsters disintegrated. They saw Several more eggs hatching, while they fought off those three, it was making more. They stayed inside of Celestia's barrier and watched the army of monsters begin to attack the barrier repeatedly. They were surrounded, Luna charged her horn for a large spell that would hit every monster surrounding them. She stopped when Celestia told her to. She turned to ask why but saw Celestia looking at the large entity. She turned to it and saw a small figure not too far away but approaching quickly. "Link." they said together. Luna was just as curious as Celestia on how he dealt with these beings.
Link ran towards the forest and saw Queen Gohma standing before a large yellow half sphere, with two alicorns within. He knew that Celestia's magic would withstand any of his so he equipped the most destructive weapon he had: Din's fire. He ran past the queen and in the center of a large group he used the spell, he brought his hands to his right side and moved them in a windmill like motion, ending with him placing his right hand on the floor. A half sphere of pure flames appeared around him, burning the gohmas to death, before expanding to destroy the rest of them. The sisters watched in awe as this single spell took out the entire, albeit small, army. He then turned to the Queen. It's eye turned red as it looked upon Link, they could tell it had a grudge. Link drew his bow, the queen dove to attack Link but he shot an arrow straight into Gohma's eye. She froze up in pain and landed just short of Link. He then drew his sword and attacked the eye, it violently shook as his gilded blade cut it in half. Queen Gohma reared back and roared in pain before turning back to Link, it moved to attack but stopped as it's body burned away. Link stared at the burning corpse for a short while, "For the Great Deku tree." he muttered.
Link turned back to the Princesses, the barrier had gone. He bowed to them, "Princesses!" he heard Twilight shout from behind him. He stood back up and saw Twilight watch the rest of Gohma burn. When the body was gone, the eye melted to reveal a large heart, it looked like a ruby edged with silver. Link approached it and picked it up. Twilight's eyes were wide in shock, while the alicorns were confused. Link turned to Twilight and the Princesses and held out the heart, "This is a heart container." he explained. Twilight used her magic to examine it, she found nothing strange about it. She held out a hoof and poked the heart, it was as hard as a rock. She continued to look at the heart, unable to understand what it does. She was about to ask but Luna beat her to it, "Link what dost that do?" she asked, Link looked at her then down to the heart container. It sank into his hands and he seemed to glow for a second, "Well every time I picked one up that happened then I felt somehow stronger, but not physically. It's hard to explain." he finished. Twilight looked at him in shock, "Do you have two hearts now?" Twilight asked, using her magic to scan Link. "I don't think it does." he answered, she finished her examination and stepped back, "How could you take the heart of something else? It's just not right!"
Link shrugged. "Well they tried to kill me so this was self-defense." he said, not really knowing why he picked them up, it was as if he was being forced to, almost like someone or something was controlling his life. He pushed that thought away, That's not even possible. he thought to himself as Twilight looked at him curiously.
(Well that's that, now again this has nothing to do with the story and shall not even tie in somehow, it's just for fun. Well I'm going to work on the next chapter right now.)
